  • This experimental study investigates the wall display of shoes shops among the commercial space to suggest a desirable lighting by focusing on the lighting on the lighting surroundings. The important outcomes of this study are summarized below. The result of the experiment for the wall lighting: For the wall lighting, which needs a diversity, there should be various light source or bigger rate of illuminance between the ambient lighting and the local lighting. There is another possibility that is we can use the lower rate of illuminance with the ambient lighting and the local lighting or higher illuminance generally. The other wall lighting, which need a luminance and a emotional response, will be more effective as they take the lower rate of illuminance with the ambient lighting and the local lighting or higher illuminance generally.

  • We have designed novel transreflective liquid crystal displays which utilize dielectric mirrors. The reflective and transmissive modes are operated in different wavelength regions. The displays have the advantages: (1) the brightness as a function of applied voltage is the same for both modes, (2) the backlight and ambient light are utilized efficiently.

  • We had proposed fast thermal stress estimation methodology for the components on system board when the system is stationary within specific ambient air temperature. Now, we will propose one efficient thermal stress estimation methodology, block adaptive filtering methodology, for the FPD electronic system board which is enclosed by mechanical cover.

  • A display device combining plasma display panel (PDP) and field emission display (FED) is proposed to achieve high luminous efficiency. The device can avoid the main energy loss channels of both PDP (ion loss) and FED (low CL efficiency). $2{\sim}6$”-diagonal test panels with carbon nano-tube (CNT) electron emitter and Xenon ambient gas showed the luminous efficiency of 4.14lm/W and brightness of $263cd/m^2$ at 35V (1kHz, 1% duty), indicating that it is a good candidate for the low voltage driven, highly efficient next generation display.

  • As global warming accelerates, eco-friendly electric cars are being developed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and power conversion inverters are used to drive motors. Among inverter components, DC-link capacitor is heated by high current usage, which causes problems such as performance and life-saving of inverter. Although metal cases with good thermal performance have been used to solve this problem, it is difficult to apply them in practice due to insulation problems with other parts. In this paper, the Heat-Generation influence factor of DC-link capacitor is analyzed. Variables on heat-generation are set at 3 levels for film width, inductance, and film thickness. Box-Behnken to 13 tests using the design and minimal deviations, e.g. through the experiment three times by each level. The surface of the film k type by attaching the sensor current is measured temperature. Capacitance was set to a minimum level of 200 ㎌ and had a frequency of 16 kHz with Worst case, ambient temperature of 85℃ and a ripple current of 50 Ams was applied. The temperature at the measurement point was collected in the data logger after sampling at 1 minute intervals for 2 hours after saturation with the ambient temperature. This experiment confirmed that setup factors are correlated with heat-generation.

  • The transmittance of the three dimensional (3D) transparent display is an important factor and can be enhanced by adding a see-through area to the displayed 3D image in order to transmit an ambient light with maximum transparency. However, there is a side effect that the perceived 3D resolution can be degraded due to the see-through area. In this paper, we propose an advanced method to resolve the above trade-off relation between the transparency and the 3D resolution by using an active parallax barrier (PB) with a see-through area. The experimental results are also presented to prove the proposed principle.

  • A lot of research for system-on-panel(SOP) have been done to integrate display systems including data driver, gate driver, timing controller, DC-DC converter, and smart functions such as embedded touch screen, ambient brightness sensing and luminance control, finger printing on the glass. Recently, the cost of an one-chip driver IC with various functions has decreased rapidly, and new mobile display interface technologies have been introduced. So it is necessary to examine the feasibility of SOP for practical mobile applications. In this paper, we will re-examine LTPS technologies for mobile displays in terms of various aspects and discuss the practical limitations on SOP technology and future technology trend of mobile displays.

  • Scent display is used mainly to augment immersion, reality and emotion, besides provide more tension and suggestion. However, this paper pay attention to effect of smells as ambient media, and propose a notification service using scents without sound and vibration when a user has new mail, test message and phone call. And we designed a scent service platform and API function for easy application of scent notification service. We demonstrated feasibility by experiment using smart phone and self-producted scent device.

  • Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) with printable semiconductors are promising candidate devices for flexible active-matrix (AM) display applications. Yet, stable operation of actual display panels driven by OTFTs has seldom been reported up to date. Here, we demonstrate a flexible reflective type polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) display, in which inkjet-printed OTFT arrays are used as driving elements with excellent areal uniformity in terms of device performance. As the active semiconductor, a novel, ambient processable conjugated copolymer was synthesized. The stability of the devices with respect to electrical bias stress was improved by applying a channel-passivation layer, which suppresses the environmental effects and hence reduces the density of trap states at the channel/dielectric interface. The combination of high performance and high stability OTFT devices enabled the successful realization of stable operating flexible color-displays by inkjet-printing.

  • This paper presents a study on the tubeless Plasma Display Panel (PDP) packaging using glass-to-glass electrostatic bonding with intermediate amorphous silicon. The bonded sample sealing the mixed gas with three species showed high strength ranging from 2.5 MPa to 4 MPa. The glass-to-glass bonding for packaging was performed at a low temperature of $180^{\circ}C$ by applying bias of 250 $V_{dc}$ in ambient of mixed gases of He-Ne(27 %)-Xe(3 %). The tubeless packaging was accomplished by bonding the support glass plate of $30mm{\times}50mm$ on the rear glass panel and the capping glass of $20mm{\times}20mm$. The 4-inch color AC-PDP with thickness of 8 mm was successfully fabricated and fully emitted as white color at a firing voltage of 190V.
