Lidocaine(2-Diethylaminoaceto-2', 6'-xylidide) was transdennally delivered by iontophoresis and the effect of enhancer on the delivery of lidocaine was studied. We delivered lidocaine through the skin of hairless mouse using diffusion cell and investigated the effect of the amount of cation salts such as sodium chloride, calcium acetate, zinc acetate and aluminum acetate on the drug delivery. The amounts of transported drugs and adsorbed metal ions were measured by HPLC(High Perfonnance Liquid Chromatography) and AAS(Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry), respectively. The addition of zinc acetate and aluminum acetate greatly enhanced the delivery of lidocaine. The detection of two metal ions by AAS seemed to support the idea that the astringency effect of these ions were the main reason for the enhancement of transdermal delivery.
The hydrolysis-precipitation reaction of mixed aluminum salt solutions of aluminum sulfate, aluminum nitrate, and urea has been investigated to obtain narrow-sized and unagglomerated fine spherical precipitates of aluminum hydroxide required for coating core particles. The hydrolysis-precipitatin reaction could be controlled to be appropriate to coating processes by usign urea as a pH control-agent. As the concetration of total Al3+ ion and the molar ratio of SO42-/Al3+ in starting solutions became smaller and also as the vol. ratio of water/solution for hydrolyzing mixed aluminum salt solution became larger, the morphology of precipitates tended to be more unagglomerated and spherical, while their size(0.5longrightarrow0.05${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) to be smaller. The optimum hydrolysis condition for coating processes was to hydrolyze the mixed aluminum salt solution, in which the molar ratio of SO42-/Al3+ was 0.75, while the amount of water corresponding to the vol. ratio of water/solution of 15. The precipitate was the aluminum hydroxide which sulfate ions were strongly adsorbed on and the maximum yield in the hydrolysis-precipitation reaction was about 20%.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) as a corrosion inhibitor on the pitting corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys used in electric vehicle battery cooling systems within a mixture of ethylene glycol and water (EG-W) coolant. Potentiodynamic polarization testing revealed unstable passive film formation on the aluminum alloys in the absence of SDBS. However, the addition of SDBS resulted in a robust passive film, enhancing the pitting corrosion resistance across all examined alloys. Pitting corrosion was predominantly observed near intermetallic compounds in the presence of Cl? ions, which was attributed to galvanic interactions. Among tested alloys, A1040 demonstrated superior resistance due to its lower areal fraction of precipitates and donor density. The incorporation of SDBS inhibitors mitigated the overall pitting corrosion process by hindering Cl? ion penetration. These findings suggest that SDBS can significantly improve pitting corrosion resistance in aluminum alloys employed in battery coolant environments.

aluminum sulfate (alum) as a representative retention aid in papermaking processes was added to pulp suspensions, and the aluminum components adsorbed on the pulp were investigated quantitatively by two types of X-ray elementary analyses with regard to simultaneous changes of their surface charges. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray fluorescence analysis (XFA) were applied to determine the aluminum components retained in pulp pads up to ca. 10 nm and 100${\mu}$m depth, respectively. In other words, XPS was utilized to analyze the outermost surface layers of the samples, and XFA was available for measurement of their extensive regions. A particle charge detector (PCD) was used to monitor streaming potentials at various pHs of the pulp mixtures under moderate sharing conditions. At pH 4.5 of pulp suspensions containing alum, surface charges of pulp fibers varied from negative to slight negative (approximately neutral) according to adsorption of aluminum components onto the pulp fibers. Subsequently, when a dilute NaOH solution in limited amounts was added to pulp mixtures, both streaming potentials and surface aluminum content of the pulp fibers increased distinctly although little total aluminum retention increased. Further addition of alkali solutions brought drastic decreases of the surface charges and surface aluminum content, while total aluminum content, on the contrary, increased gradually under neutral conditions. These results indicate that residual aluminum ions remained in pulp suspensions are predominantly adsorbed on surfaces of pulp fibers by adequate alkali additions and they must sufficiently cationize the fiber surfaces with increases of somewhat cationic aluminum complexes formed on the surfaces. On the other hand, aluminum components formed in higher pH ranges have nearly no contribution to improvement of charge properties of the pulp fiber surfaces, even though aluminum retention in pulp pads increases. XPS and XFA analyses combined with streaming potential measurement using a PCD suggest close relationships between aluminum content on the pulp fiber surfaces and their charge properties.
Purpose: To investigate the correlation between the amount of salivary metal ions released from fixed prostheses and the period of restoration insertion, and to evaluate the correlation between the type and amount of metal ions in saliva and oral lesions (OL). Methods: Based on the oldest prosthesis, we divided patients into two groups: more than 5 years (n=19) and less than 5 years (n=10). Patients were also divided into two groups by another criteria: the one with the presence (n=15), and the one with absence (n=14) of OL, and the amounts of metal ions were examined. Metal ions-gold (Au), copper, cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), nickel, zinc, aluminum, palladium (Pd), tin, and platinum (Pt)-were measured using laser ablation microprobe inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Results: Significantly higher quantities of Co, Pt, and Pd ions were released in patients with fixed prosthesis of more than 5 years (p<0.05). Measurement of the average amount of salivary metal ions was performed on patients with and without OL - Significantly higher amounts of Cr, Pd and Au ions were released in patients with OL (p<0.05). Conclusions: Old prostheses (${\geq}5years$) released metal ions, and among them were Co, Pt and Pd ions more than others. Patients with OL showed significantly higher levels of ion release, especially Cr, Pd and Au. There was a positive correlation between the amount of a certain kind of released metal ions, especially Pd, and the development of OL. Salivary Pd ion released from old prostheses could affect the pathogenesis of OL; therefore, long-term follow-up is important.
The corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys in the $H_2SO_4$ solution was investigated based on potentiodynamic techniques. Electrochemical properties, such as corrosion potential($E_c$), passive potential($E_p$), corrosion current density($I_c$), corrosion rate(mpy), of Al-Mg-Si, Al-Cu-Si and Al-Si alloys were characterized at room temperature. Passive aluminum oxide film, which including $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ and $3Al_2O_34SO_38H_2O$, were uniformly formed on the surface via the reaction of Al with $SO{_3}^{2-}$ or $SO{_4}^{2-}$ ions in the $H_2SO_4$ solution and the dependence of the corrosion behavior on the alloying element was discussed. The selective leaching of alloy element increased with increasing Cu content in the aluminum alloys.
Polycrystalline bismuth- and aluminum- substituted dysporsium and yttrium iron garnet (Bi2R3-xAlyFe5-yO12, R=Dy or Y, $0\leqx\leq3, \; 0\leqy\leq3$) films have been prepared by pyrolysis. The crystallization temperatures, the solubility limit of bismuth ions into the garnet phase, and magnetic and magneto-optic properties of the films have been investigated as a function of bismuth and aluminum concentration. It was found that the crystallization temperatures as a function of bismuth and aluminum concentration. It was found that the crystallization temperatures of these films rapidly decreased as bismuth concentration. It was found that the crystallization temperatures of these films rapidly decreased as bismuth concentration (x) increased up to x=1.5 and then remained temperatures of these films rapidly decreased as bismuth concentration (x) increased up to x=1.5 and then remained unchanged at x>1.5, whereas, showed no changes as aluminum concentration (y) increased up to y=1.0 and then gradually increased at y>1.0. The solubility limit of bismuth ions was x=1.8 when y=0 but increased to x=2.3 when y=1.0. It was demonstrated that the magnetic and magneto-optic properties of the dysprosium iron garnet films could be tailored by bismuth and aluminum substitution suitable for magneto-optic recording as follows. The saturation magnetization and coercivity data obtained for the films indicated that the film composition at which the magnetic compensation temperature became room temperature was y=1.2 when x=1.0. Near this composition the coercivity and the squareness of the magnetic hysteresis loop of the films were several kOe and unit, respectively. The Curie temperatures of the films increased with the increase of x but decreaed with the increase of y, and was 150-$250^{\circ}C$ when x=1.0 and y=0.6-1.4. The Faraday rotation at 633 nm of the films increased as x increased but decreased as y increased, and was 1 deg/$\mu\textrm{m}$ when x=1.0 and y=1.0. Based on the data obtained, the appropriate film composition for magneto-optic recording was estimated as near x=1.0 and y=1.0 or $BiDy_2AlFe_4O_{12}$.
Adhesion of Copper film on the aluminum oxide layer formed by anodizing an aluminum plate was enhanced by applying ion beam mixing method. Forming an conductive metal layer on the insulating oxide surface without using adhesive epoxy bonds provide metal-PCB(Printed Circuit Board) better thermal conductivities, which are crucial for high power electric device working condition. IBM (Ion beam mixing) process consists of 3 steps; a preliminary deposition of an film, ion beam bombardment, and additional deposition of film with a proper thickness for the application. For the deposition of the films, e-beam evaporation method was used and 70 KeV N-ions were applied for the ion beam bombardment in this work. Adhesions of the interfaces measured by the adhesive tape test and the pull-off test showed an enhancement with the aid of IBM and the adhesion of the ion-beam-mixed films were commercially acceptable. The mixing feature of the atoms near the interface was studied by scanning electron microscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
The research on surface modification technology has been advanced to change the properties of engineering material. Ion implantation is a novel surface modification technology to enhance the mechanical, chemical and electronic properties of mechanical parts. In this research, nitrogen ions are implanted into aluminum for mold to improve endurance and life span. To analyze modification of surface properties, micro hardness, friction coefficient, wear resistance, contact angle, and surface roughness were measured. Hardness of ion implanted specimens was higher than untreated specimen and friction coefficient was also improved. In this experiment, it can be expected that nitrogen ion implantation can contribute to enhance the mechanical properties of material and ion implantation technology may also be applied to other materials.
