Porous $Al_2O_3$ film can be utilized as template for fabrication of nano-structured materials. Porous anodic alumina layer as template was prepared by anodization of aluminum in oxalic acid, and the pore diameter and barrier-type alumina layer can be controlled for proper anodizing parameter by widening process in $H_3PO_4$ solution. The $SiO_2$ nanodot and Ni nanowire was fabricated using anodic alumina template and their characteristics were investigated using SEM and TEM with EDS. Especially the growth mechanism of $SiO_2$ nanodot in alumina membrane compared with thinning of the alumina barrier layer during anodization was also investigated.

A photodiode capable of obtaining a sufficient photo/dark current ratio at both a forward bias state and a reverse bias state is proposed. The photodiode includes a glass substrate, an aluminum film formed as a lower electrode over the glass substrate, an alumina film formed as a schottky barrier over the aluminum film, a hydrogenated amorphous silicon film formed as a photo conduction layer over a portion of the alumina film, and a transparent conduction film formed as an upper electrode over the hydro-generated amorphous silicon film. Growth of high quality alumina($Al_{2}O_{3}$) film using anodizing technology is proposed and analyzed by experiment. We have obtained the film with a superior characteristics

In this study, two novel methods to measure the surface hardness of anodic oxide films on aluminum alloys are reported. The first method is to impregnate oil-based ink into pores in the anodic oxide film and then to clean the ink on the surface using ethanol, resulting in an impregnation of inks only inside of the pores in anodic oxide film. The second method is to coat the anodic oxide film surface with thin Au layer less than 0.1 ?. Both the ink-impregnating method and Au-coating method provided clear indentation marks on the anodic oxide film surface when it was indented using a pyramidal-diamond penetrator. Thus, Vickers hardness of anodic oxide films on aluminium alloy could be measured successfully and precisely from the anodic film surface. In addition, advantages and disadvantages of the ink-impregnating method and Au-coating method for the measurement of surface hardness of anodic oxide films are discussed.
This study investigates friction and wear characteristics of anodized aluminum (Al) alloy 6061 by using a reciprocating tribotester. The diameter and height of the specimen are 30 mm and 10 mm, respectively. The surface roughness of the mirrored-surface is approximately $0.01{\sim}0.02{\mu}m$, and it is used throughout the current study. As a result of anodizing, the depth and diameter of the nanopore are approximately $25{\mu}m$ and 30-40 nm, respectively. The testing conditions are as follows: loads of 1, 3, and 5 N; a frequency of 1 Hz; a stoke of 3 mm; and a duration of 1800 s. We use deionized water with a volume of approximately $25{\mu}l$, as the lubricant. Micro Vickers hardness measurements show that mirrored-surface specimens had lower hardness values than anodized specimens. Further, their coefficients of friction are lower than those of the anodized samples, and the width of their wear track increases with load, as expected. The anodized specimens' coefficients of friction increase with stable frictional behavior and exhibit insignificant load dependence. Further, we observe that the width of the wear track is less than that of the mirrored-surface specimens, and micro cracks are present near it. Moreover, the anodizing process increases the hardness of the samples, improving their wear resistance. These results indicate that nanoporous structures are not effective in lowering friction under the water-lubricated condition.
$ZrO_2$ films were coated on aluminum etching foil by the sol-gel method to apply $ZrO_2$ as a dielectric material in an aluminum(Al) electrolytic capacitor. $ZrO_2$ films annealed above $450^{\circ}C$ appeared to have a tetragonal structure. The withdrawal speed during dip-coating, and the annealing temperature, influenced crack-growth in the films. The $ZrO_2$ films annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ exhibited a dielectric constant of 33 at 1 kHz. Also, uniform $ZrO_2$ tunnels formed in Al etch-pits $1{\mu}m$ in diameter. However, $ZrO_2$ film of 100-200 nm thickness showed the withstanding voltage of 15 V, which was unsuitable for a high-voltage capacitor. In order to improve the withstanding voltage, $ZrO_2$-coated Al etching foils were anodized at 300 V. After being anodized, the $Al_2O_3$ film grew in the directions of both the Al-metal matrix and the $ZrO_2$ film, and the $ZrO_2$-coated Al foil showed a withstanding voltage of 300 V. However, the capacitance of the $ZrO_2$-coated Al foil exhibited only a small increase because the thickness of the $Al_2O_3$ film was 4-5 times thicker than that of $ZrO_2$ film.

Steel crucible used for molten Al has a problem of very limited lifetime because of the interaction between Fe and molten Al. This study was performed to improve the lifetime of steel crucible for molten Al by coating metallic Al and by further anodizing treatment to form thick and uniform anodic oxide films. The lifetime of the steel crucible was improved slightly by Al coating from 30 to 40 hours by metallic Al coating and largely to 120 hours by coating the surface with anodic oxide film. The improved lifetime was attributed to blocking of the reaction between Fe and molten Al with the help of anodic oxide layer with more than 20 um thickness on the crucible surface. The failure of the steel crucible arises from the formation of intermetallic compounds and pores at the steel/Al interface.
Porous anodic aluminum oxide layer for nano templates was prepared in acidic solutions. In order to investigate effects of 2nd anodization on ordered formation behaviors of the porous oxide layers, electrochemical and microstructural studies were performed, primarily using TEM, FE- SEM, AFM, and Ultramicrotomy. The pore diameter of the anodic oxide layer increased approximately linearly with increasing voltages, and to the contrary, the pore density decreased. It was shown that 2nd anodizing on the cell base after dissolving 1st anodic oxide layer was remarkably effective for forming ordered array of the pores, comparing with the case for 1st anodization only. And for controlling the diameter of pores, widening method by chemical dissolution seemed more practical than by electrochemical methods.
The purpose of this research is to determine the hardness of guide hole. A guide pin and a guide hole of SSD(Solid State Drive) tester used to mount SSD in a fixed position accurately. The guide pin and guide hole are worn by friction due to repeated operation, and the wear is concentrated on the guide hole made of weak material rather than the guide pin made of relatively strong material. Because of that reason, it is often overdesigned in the design stage because it can lose its function. If the guide hole is made soft, the manufacturing cost will decrease, but the accuracy will decrease due to wear caused by repeated friction. If the guide hole is manufactured excessively, the manufacturing process becomes complicated and the manufacturing cost increases. It is essential to design a guide hole, but since there is no standard or verified data that can be referenced, it is difficult to design. Experimental device which guides in the same way as the SSD tester is used for this research, and three types of anodizing state are experimented for different hardness. Also, weight of COK(Change over Kit) were analyzed by measuring the wear amount and state of the guide hole according to the number of repeated attachment and detachment.

Anodizing is a technology to generate thicker and high-quality films than natural oxide films by treating metals via electrochemical methods. It is a technique to develop metals for various uses, and extensive research on the commercial use has been performed for a long time. Aluminum anodic oxide (AAO) is generate oxide films, whose sizes and characteristics depending on the types of electrolytes, voltages, temperatures and time. Electrochemical manufacturing method of nano structure is an efficient technology in terms of cost reduction, high productivity and complicated shapes, which receives the spotlight in diverse areas. The sulfuric acid was used as an anodizing electrolyte, controlling its temperature to $10^{\circ}C$. The anode was 5083 Al alloy with dimension of $5(t){\times}20{\times}20mm$ while the cathode was the platinum. The distance between the anode and the cathode was maintained at 3 cm. Agitation was introduced by magnetic stirrer at 300 rpm to prevent localized temperature rise that hinders stable growth of oxide layer. In order to observe surface characteristics with applied current density, the electrolyte temperature, concentration was maintained at constant condition for $10^{\circ}C$, 10 vol.%, respectively. To prevent hindrance of stable growth of oxide layer due to local temperature increase during the experiment, stirring was maintained at constant rate. In addition, using galvanostatic method, it was maintained at current density of $10{\sim}30mA/cm^2$ for 40 minutes. The cavitation experiment was carried out with an ultrasonic vibratory apparatus using piezo-electric effect with modified ASTM-G32. The peak-to-peak amplitude was $30{\mu}m$ and the distance between the horn tip and specimen was 1 mm. The specimen after the experiment was cleaned in an ultrasonic, dried in a vacuum oven for more than 24 hours, and weighed with an electric balance. The surface damage morphology was observed with 3D analysis microscope. As a result of the investigation, differences were observed surface hardness and anti-cavitation characteristics depending on the development of oxide film with applied current density.

In this study, we fabricated an electrolyte-insulator-metal (EIM) device incorporating a high-k Al2O3 sensing membrane using a porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) through a two-step anodizing process for pH detection. The structural properties were observed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD). Electrochemical measurements taken consisted of capacitance-voltage (C-V), hysteresis voltage and drift rates. The average pore diameter and depth of the AAO membrane with a pore-widening time of 20 min were 123nm and 273.5nm, respectively. At a pore-widening time of 20 min, the EIM device using anodic aluminum oxide exhibited a high sensitivity (56mV/pH), hysteresis voltage (6.2mV) and drift rate (0.25mV/pH).
