  • In this paper, a dynamic analysis based on the fuzzy set theory is presented as a possible complementary tool to the classical stochastic methods for dynamic analyses. Material parameters of a structure are influenced by uncertainties and therefore they are considered to be fuzzy quantities with given distributions, that means fuzzy numbers with given membership functions. The fuzzy dynamic analysis is conducted with help of fuzzy arithmetic defined on the so-called ${\alpha}$-cuts. The results of the analysis are also obtained in the form of fuzzy numbers, which compared to the stochastic methods is less computationaly expensive while at the same time they still provide information about the distribution of a quantity. This method is demonstrated on an analysis of a two-dimensional frame subjected to possible seismic load, where the uncertain eigenmodes and eigenfrequencies are used in the modal analysis.

  • In this study, ZnO is evaporated to be coated on n-type Si wafer substrate. Refractive coefficient of thin film that is evaporating TiO$_2$ onto ZnO increases linearly as thickness is getting thinner to have high value and high angle and it satisfies theoretical equation I(x)=Io exp (-$\alpha$x) theory that represents the strength of photon energy advancing through ZnO thin film. And dielectric constant of TiO$_2$ thin film evaporated onto ZnO is high and $\varepsilon$$_2$ is smaller than $\varepsilon$$_1$. The specimen TiO$_2$ thin film evaporated onto ZnO has much higher dielectric constant when photon energy is increased.

  • Nonlinear resonance characteristics of transverse type-PZT ceramic resonator were investigated, and their nonlinear coefficients were calculated using the nonlinear theory proposed by Duffing. Resonance characteristics of sample showed nonlinearity by the thermal effects due to driving current. Nonlinear coefficients greatly affected by sample dimension, however comparing with respect to current density, it was almost constant. Nonlinear coefficients were not changed as driving current increased upto 40 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$, when $\alpha$ and $\beta$ was 920 and -10.6, respectively, while nonlinear coefficients exponentially increased beyond the current density of 40 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Nonlinear coefficients were slightly increased as temperature increased.

  • The role of microstructure is quite significant in fretting of Ti-6Al-4V since its material properties depend strongly on crystallographic texture. In this study, we adopt crystal plasticity theory with a 2-D planar triple slip idealization to account fur microstructure effects such as grain orientation distribution, grain geometry, as well as $\alpha$ colony size. Crystal plasticity simulations suggest strong implications of microstructure effects at fretting contacts.

  • Optimized geometrical structure, atomic charges, molecular electrostatic potential, nonlinear optical (NLO) effects and thermodynamic properties of the title compound N-(2,5-methylphenyl)salicylaldimine (I) have been investigated by using ab initio quantum chemical computational studies. Calculated results showed that the enol form of (I) is more stable than keto form. The solvent effect was investigated for obtained molecular energies, hardneses and the atomic charge distributions of (I). Natural bond orbital and frontier molecular orbital analysis of the title compound were also performed. The total molecular dipole moment (${\mu}$), linear polarizability (${\alpha}$), and first-order hyperpolarizability (${\beta}$) were calculated by B3LYP method with 6-31G(d), 6-31+G(d,p), 6-31++G(d,p), 6-311+G(d) and 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets to investigate the NLO properties of the compound (I). The standard thermodynamic functions were obtained for the title compound with the temperature ranging from 200 to 450 K.

  • The vibration of an axially moving string is studied when the string has geometric non-linearity and translating acceleration. Based upon the von karman strain theory, The equation for the longitudinal vibration is linear and uncoupled, while the equation for the transverse vibration is non-linear and coupled between the longitudinal and transverse deflections. The governing equations are discretized by using the Galerkin approximation. With the discretized nonlinear equations, the time responses are investigated by using the generalized-${\alpha}$ method.

  • Incorporating the fully quantum mechanical computation of scattering cross-section and statistical moment analysis of absorption profiles, we investigate the Lyman line asymmetry of extremely high column density systems. Recent high redshift observations detected strong damped Lyman alpha systems (DLAs) whose column density is larger than N_HI ~ [10]^21.3 cm^(-2). Absorption profiles of these DLAs are characterized by the broad and asymmetric damping wing. For accurate description of radiation damping, the second-order time-dependent perturbation theory is adopted. To quantitatively address line asymmetry, we define a distribution function for each Lyman line, and compute statistical moments (mean, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis) regarding column densities N_HI > [10]^18 cm^(-2). In this work, we present statistical properties of the intrinsic line profiles, and compare them with the Lorentzian cases.

  • For the development of a short form of the Korean Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (K-WPPSI), 360 preschool and primary school children were tested with 4 subtests: Object Assembly, Arithmetic, Block Design, and Comprehension. Transformed scores were derived according to K-WPPSI norms. Interscorer reliability coefficients measured by two independent scorers with the data of 16 children were satisfactory: Comprehension, .92; Arithmetic, .94; Block Design, .97; Object Assembly, .97 Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient for the 4 subtests were very similar to those for the original K-WPPSI, ranging between .71 and .92. Factor analyses revealed 2 factors corresponding to Wechsler's 2 factor theory of intelligence. Discriminant validity was obtained with a Picture-Vocabulary test. Boys performed slightly better than girls on all subtests except for Comprehension. Boys significantly out-performed girls in Arithmetic.

  • We take genomic sequences of high-dimensional low sample size (HDLSS) without ordering of response categories into account. When constructing an appropriate test statistics in this model, the classical multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) approach might not be useful owing to very large number of parameters and very small sample size. For these reasons, we present a pseudo marginal model based upon the Gini-Simpson index estimated via Bayesian approach. In view of small sample size, we consider the permutation distribution by every possible n! (equally likely) permutation of the joined sample observations across G groups of (sizes $n_1,{\ldots}n_G$). We simulate data and apply false discovery rate (FDR) and positive false discovery rate (pFDR) with associated proposed test statistics to the data. And we also analyze real SARS data and compute FDR and pFDR. FDR and pFDR procedure along with the associated test statistics for each gene control the FDR and pFDR respectively at any level ${\alpha}$ for the set of p-values by using the exact conditional permutation theory.

  • In the first part of this paper we show that, under some conditions, a polynomially demicompact operator can be demicompact. An example involving the Caputo fractional derivative of order ${\alpha}$ is provided. Furthermore, we give a refinement of the left and the right Weyl essential spectra of a closed linear operator involving the class of demicompact ones. In the second part of this work we provide some sufficient conditions on the inputs of a closable block operator matrix, with domain consisting of vectors which satisfy certain conditions, to ensure the demicompactness of its closure. Moreover, we apply the obtained results to determine the essential spectra of this operator.
