  • Many researches on alkali-activated concrete that does not need the presence of cement as a binder have been carried out recently. Instead, the source of material such as fly ash and blast slag, that are rich in Silicon(Si) and Aluminium(Al), are activated by alkaline liquids to produce the binder. Hence concrete with no cement is effect reduction of CO$_2$ gas. In this study, we investigated the influence of the workability and compressive strength of mortar on water reducing agent, alkaline activator and curing method in oder to develop cementless blast slag based alkali-activated mortar. In view of the results, we found out that the flowability of mortar was lowered as increasing to mole concentration of NaOH, but not large the loss of flowability to 9M NaOH, most of water reducing agent was not effect. The compressive strength was improved as increasing to mole concentration of NaOH, was the most effect in 9M NaOH. The curing temperature and curing conditions on compressive strength of blast slag based alkali-activated mortar didn't influence.

  • This is an experimental study on manufacturing of non-cement matrix. Materials like cement and blowing agent in foamed concrete is replaced by by-products from blast furnace slag and paper ash. Further, the experiment was performed by replacing alkali with red mud by (0, 5, 10, 15, 25, 35, 45) of weight of alkali (wt.%) in order to reduce the amount of expensive alkali acclerator. Sample Plain with density showed lowest. The compressive strength test result, showed a similar trend with density. And it showed that compressive strength of the RM-0.05 was highest.

  • For developing digital printing textiles, special pretreatment processes are necessary. These processes include developing formulation of coating agent and coating processes. The pretreatment were investigated with the variation concentration of anti-migration agent, fixation chemical etc.. The printing qualities according to pretreatment conditions were studied with color yield, printed capital letter sharpness and washing fastness. It was observed that the concentration of anti-migration agent, fixation agent(alkali) was closely related to printing qualities. For developing industrial technology of cellulosic digital printing textiles, optimum viscosity of pretreatment coating formulation is very important factor.

  • This study is the experiment for manufacturing the Lightweight non-cement matrix based on the blast furnace slag, paper ash. Materials like cement and blowing agent in foamed concrete is replaced by by-products fro blast furnace slag and paper ash. Further, the experiment was performed by replacing alkali with nature gypsum and α type gypsum by (0, 5, 10, 15, 20) of weight of alkali (wt.%) in order to reduce the amount of expensive alkali-activator. Consequently, in the case of the density, plain showed the lowest density and it seems that specimen adding nature gypsum 5% has the best compressive strength and flexural strength. It is detemined that the strength is lowered in accordance with the α type gypsum replacement ratio is higher. The research that it can supplement the further intensity seems to be needed.

  • In order to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide($CO_2$), this research use blast furnace slag in concrete manufacture, as 100% replacement of cement. The aim of this study is to investigate the density and strength properties of alkali-activated lightweight composites with alkali activators of different types and different amounts. The bubble for achieving the lightweight of alkali-activated lightweight composites was generated in the reaction between the paper ash and the alkali activators instead of using a foaming agent. Lightweight formed concrete was conducted basic experimental for determining replacement ratio of paper ash. Then, the density and strength were measured according to the types and the contents of the alkali accelerator that can react with the paper ash. As results, the optimum replacement ratio of the paper ash was 5%. The alkali activator containing NaOH 12.5% obtained the lowest weight of $1.13g/cm^3$. Also, compressive strength were relatively high. Therefore, this study demonstrated that alkali accelerator with a certain amount of NaOH can achieve relatively high strength and lightweight alkali-activated lightweight composites.

  • To prepare zinc oxide powder, three types of sodium-based alkali precipitants such as NaOH, Na2CO3, NaOH/NaHCO3 were compared to the differences in the manufacturing process of zinc oxide powder from zinc precipitate products like intermediates with the consideration of thermodynamic reaction. The prepared zinc precipitate products by the reaction with the sodium-based alkali precipitant were confirmed to respectively hydroxy zinc chloride (Zn5(OH)8Cl2·H2O) and zinc carbonate hydroxide (Zn5(OH)6(CO3)2·H2O) from XRD analysis. Zinc oxide particles were compared in heat treatment at 800℃ according to sodium-based alkali precipitants. The mixed NaOH and NaHCO3 of alkali precipitant reaction was contributed to synthesize the more uniform zinc oxide particles.

  • Chitin was isolated from crab shells by modified Hackman's method, which was treated again with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution to give alkali chitin(sodium alkoxide of chitin). And after, the alkali chitin is allowed to react with monochloroacetic acid to synthesize 6-O-(carboxymethyl) chitin [CM-Chitin] under diminished pressure. In order to synthesize high performance CM-Chitin as hygroscopic agent, it was measured that the yield and degree of subsititution of each CM-Chitin according to molar ratio(monochloroacetic acid equivalent mol/N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residue) and their moisture-absorption and moisture-release properties were measured and compared with those of hyaluronic acid. The moisture-absorption and moisture-release properties of CM-Chitin, especially 0.8 in degree of substitution, were found quite similar to those of hyaluronic acid. The preliminary results show that CM-Chitin might be used as hygroscopic agent instead of hyaluronic acid in field of cosmetics.

  • Low liquid limit silt, widely distributed in the middle and down reaches of Yellow River, has the disadvantages of poor grading, less clay content and poor colloidal activity. It is very easy to cause vehicle jumping at the bridge-embankment transition section when the low liquid limit silt used as the backfill at the abutment back. In this paper, a series of laboratory tests were carried out to study the physical and mechanical properties of the low liquid limit silt used as back filling. Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) was excited by active MgO and hydrated lime to solidify silt as abutment backfill. The optimum ratio of firming agent and the compaction and mechanical properties of reinforced soil were revealed through compaction test and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) test. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) test was used to study the pore characteristics and hydration products of reinforced soil. 6% hydrated lime and alkali activated slag were used to solidify silt and fill the model of subgrade respectively. The pavement settlement regulation and soil internal stress-strain regulation of subgrade with different materials under uniformly distributed load were studied by model experiment. The effect of alkali activated slag curing agent on curing silt was verified. The research results can provide technical support for highway construction in silt area of the Yellow River alluvial plain.

  • When a new bonding agent using coal ash is utilized as a substitute for cement, it has the advantages of offering a reduction in the generation of carbon dioxide and securing the initial mechanical strength such that the agent has attracted strong interest from recycling and eco-friendly construction industries. This study aims to establish the production conditions of new hardening materials using clean bottom ash and an alkali activation process to evaluate the characteristics of newly manufactured hardening materials. The alkali activator for the compression process uses a NaOH solution. This study concentrated on strength development according to the concentration of the NaOH solution, the curing temperature, and the curing time. The highest compressive strength of a compressed body appeared at 61.24MPa after curing at $60^{\circ}C$ for 28 days. This result indicates that a higher curing temperature is required to obtain a higher strength body. Also, the degree of geopolymerization was examined using a scanning electron microscope, revealing a micro-structure consisting of a glass-like matrix and crystalized grains. The microstructures generated from the activation reaction of sodium hydroxide were widely distributed in terms of the factors that exercise an effect on the compressive strength of the geopolymer hardening bodies. The Si/Al ratio of the geopolymer having the maximum strength was about 2.41.
