Purpose: The study investigated factors related to the smoking behavior among 639 high school students in Geoje, Korea. Methods: Data collected by self-reported questionnaires was analyzed by the SPSS WIN 14.0 program with Chi-test, t-test, and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: Smoking behavior differed by gender (p=.002), school type (p=.001), experience with alcohol consumption (p=.005), family harmony (p=.003), father's smoking (p=.001), academic achievement (p=.010), self-esteem (p=.010), stress (p=.004), and attitude to smoking (p=.0001). Smoking behavior was significantly associated with gender (odds ratio (OR)=0.66, 95% confidence interval (CI)=0.46-0.95), school type (OR=1.52, 95% CI=1.03-2.23), experience with alcohol consumption (OR=0.56, 95%CI= 0.39-0.82), academic achievement (OR=1.98, 95-I=1.20-3.29), attitude to smoking (OR= 0.76, 95%CI=0.69-0.84) and father's smoking (OR=1.59, 95%CI=1.11-2.29). Conclusion: Anti-smoking programs for high school students should especially consider those at higher risk (males in vocational high school with no drinking experience of drinking, lower academic achievement, favorable attitude to smoking, and whose fathers smoke). Purpose: This study aims to investigate the association between suicidal thoughts and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use among adolescents. Methods: This study used the data of the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey from 2008 through 2014. The subjects of this study were 517,866 students, in total (Male 266,500, Female 251,366). Frequency analysis was conducted on the data about the subjects' general characteristics and their experience of smoking, drinking, and drug use. The relationship between suicidal thoughts and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use was analyzed through ${\chi}^2-test$ and logistic regression. The analyses were done using SAS 9.4. Results: According to the study, adolescents who used alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs at the same time engaged in suicidal ideation 3.69 times more than their peers who didn't use such substances (95% CI: 3.40~4.00, p<.001). Also, adolescents who used only tobacco, only alcohol, and only drugs engaged in suicidal ideation 1.49 times (95% CI: 1.43~1.56, p<.001), 1.28 times (95% CI: 1.26~1.31, p<.001) and 2.34 times (95% CI: 2.04~2.69, p<.001) more than the students who didn't use any substances, respectively. Conclusion: Adolescents' suicidal ideation and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use had a statistically significant relationship.

Objective : This study aims to investigate the relationship between negative sexual experience and psychiatric symptoms by gender and compare the effects of sexual assault and unwanted sexual experiences on psychiatric symptoms in patients with depression or anxiety disorders. Methods : A total of 204 respondents who have had negative sexual experiences of outpatients diagnosed with depression or anxiety disorders were evaluated with AUDIT, PSS, STAI, BDI, and SSI. Independent samples t-test was performed to compare the psychiatric symptom scale scores between male and female and identify the difference of the psychiatric symptom scale scores between those who have had sexual assault and those who have had only unwanted sexual experience. Results : There was no difference in psychiatric symptom scale scores except for AUDIT between male and female in 204 patients with negative sexual experience. There was also no significant difference in AUDIT, PSS, and STAI scores between those who experienced sexual assault and those who experienced only unwanted sexual experiences. BDI and SSI scores are significant higher in those who experienced sexual assault than those who experienced only unwanted sexual experiences. Conclusion : This suggests that male and female may have similar levels of psychiatric symptoms after experiencing negative sexual experiences. Psychiatric symptoms caused by sexual assault may have differences from the psychiatric symptoms caused by unwanted sexual experience. Understanding the differences in psychiatric symptoms according to the type of negative sexual experience may helpful to direct the therapeutic plans.
Despite the importance of the marital treatment in the recovery process of alcohol dependency, the domestic situation lacks the programs for recovering alcoholic couples. It is very hard to find any program for couples with an alcoholic in recovery. Most of the related researches only deal with hospitalized patients and their families due to their limitations in contact with appropriate subjects. This imposes a limit in their expert and validity. This research finds its aim in investigating the needs of recovering alcoholic couples and of clinical professionals, and providing basic data for the development of program for recovering alcoholic couples. This research was studied with 20 recovering alcoholic couples with a mean duration of 3.9 years of sobriety and 10 clinical professionals with a mean duration of 7.5 years of alcohol-abuse counseling experience. As a result, it appeared that a marital program that covers communication skills, sex, domestic violence, financial problems and original family issues in relation with codependency would be appropriate; the program would also involve issues about relapse.
Objective : The incidence of head injury has been increasing in the rural area. The author investigated the clinical features and difficulties in care of the acute head-injured patients in this area. Method and Material : The authors performed a retrospective review of radiological data and clinical records in patients with mild to moderate head injury. Cause, type of craniocerebral injury, delayed intracranial lesions, complications, its relation to alcohol abuse, and outcome were analyzed. Results : In total of 68 cases, 20(29.4%) victims were associated with acute alcohol intoxication. Motor vehicle accident was the leading cause of head injury and the most common craniocerebral lesion was basilar skull fracture. Eight(11.8%) patients showed delayed radiological and clinical deterioration and 40(58.8%) were followed-up regularly after discharge. The subdural hygroma was commonly noted in the elderly and alcoholics. Causes of thirty events that resulted in an atypical and difficult neurosurgical practice were as follows : delayed admission, premature discharge against doctor's request, refusal of radiological studies and admission, misunderstanding of disease entity, and unreasonable desire of transfer to tertiary hospitals. Inaccurate initial diagnoses were made by emergency doctors in twenty patients. During the course of treatment, there were a few complications such as alcohol withdrawal, acute otitis media, cerebrospinal fistula, facial weakness, and posttraumatic seizure. Outcome was good in 60(88.2%) patients. Conclusion : Most of minor head trauma patients in this series have shown good results, but we have to consider some possible complications and delayed intracranial lesions in these patients that should be managed with special cautions with various kinds of treatment difficulties.
