Al 분말의 점화열을 이용한 Sialon 분말 제조에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fabrication of Sialon Powder through the Thermit Ignition)

  • The mixture of (opalit+Al) powder was ignited by electric shock for the preparation of sialon powder by changin the contents of Al. The formation reaction of sialon was investigated by heating the specimens of ignited mixture (opalit+Al) in nitrogen atmosphere at various temperature. The phases existing inthe specimens nitrided between 1400 and 1$600^{\circ}C$ were found $\beta$-sialon 15R-sia-lon $Al_2O_3$ and AlN but the mixture $\beta$-sialon and 15R-sialon was finally acquired by heating the ignited mixture of (Al 50%+opalit) at 175$0^{\circ}C$ for 3hours in nitrogen atmosphere.

  • The dispersion characteristics of AlN-4.5 wt% $Y_2O_3$ powder mixture by various dispersants were investigated in ethanol and methyethly-ketone (MEK) solvents. In general, the cationic polymer dispersants demonstrated superior dispersion of the powder as compared to the non-ionic ester-type dispersants or anionic phosphate-ester-based ones. The dispersion performance of the cationic polymer dispersants was sensitive to the type of solvent. An anhydric maleic-acid-based graft copolymer dispersant, AFB-1521, demonstrated a very good dispersion capability in ethanol but exhibited a much inferior dispersion in MEK. On the other hand, the dispersion of the powder mixture was very good with a phosphate-ester-based block polymer dispersant, BYK-111, in MEK solvent, while dispersionwas much degraded in ethanol.

  • 경사기능재료(FGM)는 일반적으로 세라믹스나 금속과 같은 서로 다른 재료로 이루어져 있다. FGM의 성질은 조성구배, 미세조직, 기공율에 의해 변화가 일어난다. 본 연구에서는 입방체 AlN/Al-$Al_3$Ti FGM은 분말야금공정으로 제조하였고 그 특성을 관찰하였다. Al에 서로 다른 Mg와 Ti 분말을 steel 몰드에 조성구배를 폭넓게 하여 적층, 혼합하였다. 소결온도와 Mg의 양을 점점 증가시킴으로써 형성된 AlN의 양도 더 증가하였다. AlN과 $Al_3$Ti는 조성구배를 XRD 분석, 광학현미경으로 조직을 관찰하였으며 미소경도시험을 행하였다.

RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링법을 이용하여 사파이어 기판과 ZnO 박막 위에 증착한 AlN 박막의 특성분석 (Growth of AlN Thin Film on Sapphire Substrates and ZnO Templates by RF-magnetron Sputtering)

  • 먼저 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링법을 이용하여 사파이어 기판 위에 AlN 박막을 증착하였다. AlN 공급원으로는 분말소결된 AlN 타겟을 적용하였다. 플라즈마 파워를 50에서 110 W로 증가시켰을 때 AlN 층의 두께는 선형적으로 증가하였다. 그러나 동작압력을 3에서 10 mTorr로 증가시켰을 때는 동작기체인 아르곤 양이 증가함에 따라 AlN 타겟으로부터 스퍼터링되어 나온 AlN 입자들의 평균자유행정의 거리가 감소하기 때문에 AlN 층의 두께는 약간 감소하였다. 질소 기체를 아르곤과 섞어주었을 때는 질소의 낮은 스퍼터링 효율에 의해서 AlN의 두께는 크게 감소하였다. 다음으로는 ZnO 형판 위에 AlN를 증착하였다. 그러나 700도 이상의 열처리에 의해서 AlN와 ZnO의 계면이 약간 분리되어 계면의 열적 안정성이 낮다는 결과를 얻었다. 게다가 스퍼터링으로 증착한 AlN 박막의 나쁜 결정성으로 인하여 700도에서 MOCVD의 반응기 기체인 수소와 암모니아에 의해서 AlN 밑의 ZnO 층이 분해되는 현상도 관찰하였다. 그리고 900도 이상에서는 ZnO가 완전히 분해되어 AlN 박막이 완전히 분리되었다.

Effect of Additive Size on the Densification and Thermal Conductivity of AlN Ceramics with MgO-CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 Additives

  • In this study, we investigate the effect of additive size on the densification and thermal conductivity of AlN ceramics with $MgO-CaO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ (MCAS) additives. Micro-sized MCAS powder prepared via melting and nano-sized MCAS powder synthesized via the polymeric complex method are used as sintering additives. We analyze the densification behavior of AlN added with 5 wt.% of MCAS by dilatometry as well as by isothermal sintering in the temperature range of $1300{\sim}1700^{\circ}C$. AlN exhibits higher sinterability with nano-MCAS than with micro-MCAS, and both specimens approach their maximum densities when sintered at $1600^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. The thermal conductivities of AlN with 5 wt% of nano- and micro-MCAS additives sintered at $1600^{\circ}C$ are 82.6 and 32.0 W/mK, respectively. We find that nano-MCAS is more effective in sintering of AlN ceramics at lower temperatures, and thus for enhancing their thermal conductivities.

SiAlON계 절삭공구 소재의 특성 비교 (A Comparative Study on Characteristics of Cutting Tool Materials Based on SiAlON Ceramics)

  • SiAlON-based ceramics are a type of oxynitride ceramics, which can be used as cutting tools for heat-resistant super alloys (HRSAs). These ceramics are derived from Si3N4 ceramics. SiAlON can be densified using gas-pressure reactive sintering from mixtures of oxides and nitrides. In this study, we prepare an α-/β-SiAlON ceramic composite with a composition of Yb0.03Y0.10Si10.6Al1.4O1.0N15.0. The structure and mechanical/thermal properties of the densified SiAlON specimen are characterized and compared with those of a commercial SiAlON cutting tool. By observing the crystallographic structures and microstructures, the constituent phases of each SiAlON ceramic, such as α-SiAlON, β-SiAlON, and intergranular phases, are identified. By evaluating the mechanical and thermal properties, the contribution of the constituent phases to these properties is discussed as well.

  • The aging behavior of sintered Al composites with various ceramic contents was investigated. 2xxx series blended powder was used as the starting powder. Ceramic contents were 0wt.% and 5wt.%. The blended powders were compacted at 250MPa. The sintering process was performed at $620^{\circ}C$ for 60min in a $N_2$ atmosphere. Each part was solution-treated at $518^{\circ}C$ for 60min and aged at $180^{\circ}C$. The Rockwell hardness at the peak aging time increased with ceramic contents. However, the peak aging time at maximum hardness was reduced with increased ceramic contents.

  • Fine Si-Al-OH-C coprecipitate powders were prepared from Si(OC2H5)4, Al(i-OC3H7)3, and carbon black by a hydrolysis method before fabrication of Sialon-SiC composite powder by carbothermal reduction at 1350$^{\circ}C$ for 10h under N2/H2 mixed atmosphere. The characterization of the synthesized Sialon-SiC composite powders was performed using XRD, BET, SEM, TEM and particle size analysis methods. The average particle size and specific surface area of the synthesized Sialon-SiC composite powder were 0.13$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 20.1㎡/g, respectively when Z=1 and N2 : H2=50 : 50.

Al-isopropoxide로부터 합성한 AlN 세라믹스의 기계적 성질 (Mechanical Properties of AlN Ceramics Prepaerd from Al-isopropoxide)

  • Aluminum nitride powder prepared from the hydroxides, AlOOH and Al(OH)3 which were obtained by hydrolysis of Al-isopropoxide, was densified at 1750 and 180$0^{\circ}C$ for 60 min by hot-pressing under the pressure of 25kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Theoretical density could be obtained at 175$0^{\circ}C$. Their flexural strengths were 450MPa and 395MPa for the specimens obtained from Al(OH)3 and AlOOH, respectively. There was no remarkable change in flexural strength up to 100$0^{\circ}C$. Fracture toughness values were 3.50MN/m3/2 for Al(OH)3 and 3.11MN/m3/2 for AlOOH. It is assumed that these differences in mechanical properties are due to the abnormal grain growth for the AlN ceramics obtained from AlOOH.

Synthesis and characterization of nanocrystalline Al0.5Ag0.5TiO3 powder

  • A low-cost, green and reproducible citric acid assisted synthesis of nanocrystalline $Al_{0.5}Ag_{0.5}TiO_3$ (n-AAT) powder is reported. X-ray, FTIR, energy dispersive X-ray, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analyses are performed to ascertain the formation of n-AAT. X-ray diffraction data analysis indicated the formation of monoclinic structure. Spherical shaped particles having the sizes of 3-15 nm are found. The mechanism of nano-transformation for the soft-chemical synthesis of n-AAT has been explained using simple organic chemistry rules and nucleation and growth theory. Dielectric study revealed that AAT ceramic might be a suitable candidate for capacitor applications.
