The activation method of metallic foils is an important technique to measure the flux and energy of proton beams. In this paper, the method was used to measure the CSNS APEP proton flux at seven nominal proton energies ranging from 10 MeV to 70 MeV for beam spot sizes of the 20 mm × 20 mm and 50 mm × 50 mm. The reactions of natTi(p, x)48V, natNi(p, x)57Ni, natCu(p, x)58Co, and 27Al(p, x)24Na were employed to measure the proton beam flux with a range of 107-109 p/cm2/s. Furthermore, we also proposed a method using the activity ratio with a stacked-foil target to determine the energy spread of a Gaussian-like distribution for different nominal proton energies. The optimal combinations of Al, Cu, Ti, Ni, Mo, Fe, Nb, and In foils were adopted for the proton energies. The measured energy spreads for degraded beams of 30 MeV-70 MeV were found to be smaller than 10.00%.
The reduction behavior of $TiO_{2}$ in Al and Al/CaSi containing self-reducing $TiO_{2}$ briquettes(SRTB) was investigated. The maximum yield of Ti was expected with the slag composition of 45-55%CaO in the $CaO-Al_{2}O_{3}$ system. When $CaCO_{3}$ was used as a flux, the oxidation loss of reducing agent by $CO_{2}$ should be compensated, and therefore it leads to excessive requirement of the reducing agent. By using Al and CaSi mixture as a reducing agent of $TiO_{2}$, the reaction products both oxide and metal could be liquefied, and separated effectively with each other. As a result, the yield of Ti increases remarkably. The optimum mixing ratio of CaSi to Al is 78%CaSi-22%Al.
An experimental study on critical heat flux (CHF) has been performed in an internally heated vertical annulus with non-uniform heating. The CHF data for the chopped cosine heat flux have been compared with those for uniform heat flux obtained from the previous study of the authors, in order to investigate the effect of axial heat flux distribution on CHF. The local CHF with the parameters such as mass flux and critical quality shows an irregular behavior. However, the total critical power with mass flux and the average CHF with critical quality are represented by a unique curve without the irregularity. The effect of the heat flux distribution on CHF is large at low pressure conditions but becomes rapidly smaller as the pressure increases. The relationship between the critical quality and the boiling length is represented by a single curve, independent of the axial heat flux distribution. For non-uniform axial heat flux distribution, the prediction results from Doerffer et al.'s and Bowling's CHF correlations have considerably large errors, compared to the prediction for uniform heat flux distribution.
Black dross is a dark gray dross generated during the aluminum recycling process that uses flux, and contains NaCl, KCl, Al2O3, MgO, etc. Black dross is separated into soluble substances (NaCl, KCl) and insoluble substances (Al2O4, MgO) through the dissolution process. Soluble materials can be reused as salt flux, and Al2O3 and MgO can be upcycled to various ceramic materials through the synthesis process. In this study, Mayenite was synthesized using Al2O3 and MgO recovered from black dross, and the synthesis was performed according to the mixing ratio and reaction temperature. It was confirmed that when Mayenite was synthesized using black dross (spinel) and CaCO3, precursors were changed to Mg0.4Al2.4O4 and CaO at 700 ℃, and to Ca12Al14O33 (Mayenite) after 800 ℃. In the mixing conditions experiment, it was confirmed that the Mayenite XRD peak increased with increase of the CaCO3 content, and the Mg0.4Al2.4O4 XRD peak decreased. As a result of the BET analysis of the synthesized powder, the surface area decreased as the fine particles were grown and agglomerated in the process of generating mayenite.

New types of the micro heat flux sensor are designed and fabricated using SU-8 and Cu electroplating. And then calibrated under convection environment. The thermal path was made by SU-8 structure and electroplated Cu layers. The bottom surface of the micro heat flux sensor receives the heat flux from the wall, Then the heat flows along the Cu layers and drains out to the environment with producing the temperature difference at the upper layer of Cu. By measuring this temperature difference, the heat flux from the wall can be obtained. The temperature difference is measured by thermopile which is composed of Ni-Cr pairs or Al-chromel pairs. The calibration is accomplished under convection environment because it is most frequent situation. The range of the sensitivity is 0.11~2.02$\mu$V/(㎽/$\textrm{cm}^2$) for the various heat flux and Reynolds numbers.

Many surface protection methods have been developed to apply to constructional steels which have been used under severe corrosive environments. One of these methods, hot dip galvanizing is being widely used to the numerous constructional steels such as a guard rail of high way, various types of structural steel for manufacturing ship and for some other industrial fields etc.. Recently, the cost of zinc is getting higher and higher, thus, it is considered that improvement of hot dip galvanizing process to reduce the cost of production should be developed possibly. In this study, additives such as acid cleaning solution, $NH_4OH$, $Al(OH)_3$ and $H_2O_2$ were added to flux solution, and omission of water washing treatment after acid cleaning was investigated with some types of flux solutions added with some additives mentioned above. The decrement of pH by adding the acid cleaning solution could be controlled due to neutralization reaction with addition of $NH_4OH$. The flux solution added with both $NH_4OH$ and $Al(OH)_3$ exhibited nearly the same color and pH value as those of orignal flux solution with no added, and the sample dipped to the flux solution which was added with additives mentioned above indicated a relatively good corrosion resistance compared to other samples. However, the flux solution added with $NH_4OH$, $Al(OH)_3$ and $H_2O_2$ exhibited a different color, sediment and a bad corrosion resistance. Consequently, it is considered that omission of water washing treatment may be able to perform by adding optimum additives to the original flux solution.

The objective of this study is to develop a novel method for evaluating forward osmosis (FO) membrane performances using a non-pressurized FO system. Basic membrane performance parameters including water (A) and solute (B) permeability coefficients and unique parameter for FO membrane such as the support layer structural parameter (S) were determined in two FO modes (i.e., active layer faces feed solution (AL-FS) and active layer faces draw solution (AL-DS)). Futhermore, these parameters were compared with those determined in a pressurized reverse osmosis (RO) system. Theoretical water flux was calculated by employing these parameters to a model that accounts for the effects of both internal and external concentration polarization. Water flux from FO experiment was compared to theoretical water fluxes for assessing the reliability of those parameters determined in three different operation modes (i.e., AL-FS FO, AL-DS FO, and RO modes). It is demonstrated that FO membrane performance parameters can be accurately measured in non-pressurized FO mode. Specifically, membrane performance parameters determined in AL-DS FO mode most accurately predict FO water flux. This implies that the evaluation of FO membrane performances should be performed in non-pressurized FO mode, which can prevent membrane compaction and/or defect and more precisely reflect FO operation conditions.

Single phase and condensation heat transfer characteristics of ammonia in a horizontal tube have been investigated experimentally The horizontal test section is composed of smooth SUS316 tube for refrigerant flow, surrounding annulus for water flow, and temperature and Pressure measuring sensors. For single phase test, subcooled ammonia mass flux was varied from 320 to 501 kg/mrs and temperature was varied from 18 to $47^{\circ}C$. For condensation test, mass flux and saturation temperature were varied from 86 to 128 kg/$m^2$s and 34 to $47^{\circ}C$, respectively. The equations of Gnielinski Soliman et al., Traviss et at., Cavallini and Zecchin, Shah, Chen et al., Tandon et al., and Chilli and Anand were compared with the experimental data. New correlations are proposed based on the experimental results and the absolute mean deviation of the experimental data becomes 1.0% for single phase test and 4.9% for condensation test.
High energy neutron irradiations impact on structural and electrical properties of alumina are studied with particular emphasis on real time in-situ radiation induced conductivity measurement in low flux region. Polycrystalline Al2O3 samples are subjected to high energy neutrons produced from D-T neutron generator and Am-Be neutron source. 14 MeV neutrons from D-T generator are chosen to study the role of fast neutron irradiation in the structural modification of samples. Real time in-situ electrical measurement is performed to investigate the change in insulation resistance of Al2O3 due to radiation induced conductivity at low flux regime. During neutron irradiation, a significant transient decrease in insulation resistance is observed which recovers relative higher value just after neutron exposure is switched off. XRD results of 14 MeV neutron irradiated samples suggest annealing effect. Impact of relatively low energy neutrons on the structural properties is also studied using Am-Be neutrons. In this case, clustering is observed on the sample surface after prolonged neutron exposure. The structural characterizations of pristine and irradiated Al2O3 samples are performed using XRD, SEM, and EDX. The results from these characterizations are analysed and interpreted in the manuscript.
The aluminum was recovered from the middle size (Q1.0-12.0 mm) aluminum drosses using NaCl and KC1 mixuture as a basic salt flux. The maximum aluminum recovery was about 76.9% when 40% basic salt flux was added to aluminum dross at 850$^{\circ}$C for two hours. Also, aluminum remvery increased with increasing fluoride (1%-5%) addition to basic salt flux. But, there was no considerable effect due ta the increasing of viscosity when the fluorides were added over 5%, respectively. E s p d y , the most aluminum recovery was about 83.5% when 5% cryolite was added to 40% basic salt flux.
