A Study on the Prediction Analysis of Aviation Passenger Demand after Covid-19

  • This study analyzed the outlook for aviation demand for the recovery of the aviation industry, focusing on airlines facing difficulties in management due to the Covid-19 crisis. Although the timing of the recovery in aviation demand is uncertain at the moment, this study is based on prior research related to Covid-19 and forecasts by aviation specialists, and analyzed by SWOT technique to a group of aviation experts to derive and suggest implications for the prospects of aviation demand. Looking at the implications based on the analysis results, first, customer trust to prevent infection should be considered a top priority for recovering aviation demand. Second, promote reasonable air price policy. Finally, it seeks to try various research and analysis techniques to predict long-term aviation demand to overcome Covid-19.

Hijacking Area Studies: Ethnographic Approaches to Southeast Asian Airlines

  • Area Studies, by definition, conjure ideas of emplaced knowledge; in-depth interdisciplinary understanding of language, history, culture and politics of a nation or region. Where detractors might see this approach as overly empirical, therefore precluding theoretical sophistication, others argue that "places" are either artificially constructed, or that processes of globalisation have obliterated the cultural zone. But what if we turn an ethnographic eye to those very processes and technologies themselves? Can Area Studies take to the air, and if so, what are the attendant challenges and benefits? Based on insights from ethnography amongst airline customer service workers, ground and cabin crews in Thailand and Myanmar, this research examines the airline cabin as a field for ethnographic study, and as an emplaced site for political and cultural processes. With participant observation-based knowledge of Southeast Asian cabin crews, this paper examines the 1990 hijack of Thai Airways TG 305 from an emplaced cultural perspective.

A Study on the Observer Training and Implementation for Effective Normal Operation Safety Survey (NOSS)

  • Normal Operation Safety Survey (NOSS) is a safety management tool used by air traffic control organizations to measure data related to threats and errors to proactively prevent accidents before they occur. NOSS was developed to be applied to the air traffic control field according to the concept of Line Operation Safety Audit (LOSA) conducted by airlines to reduce human errors in the cockpits. Safety management based on data is crucial for the prevention of control-related accidents, and the competency of observers for this is important for the successful implementation of NOSS. Based on LOSA implementation experiences and expert interviews, this paper introduces the international NOSS methods and discusses the key factors required for effective observation and the implementation methods and implications of NOSS observer training.

위장관기질종양 (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors: Case Report, Aeromedical Assessment of Therapy)

  • Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GISTs) are relatively uncommon soft tissue sarcomas that can be located in any part of the digestive system. GISTs originate in specialized nerve cells located in the walls of the digestive system. This case report is about a 53-year-old airman who was recently diagnosed as peritoneal GISTs. He got a surgical removal of the tumor and chemotherapy, including imatinib (Gleevec®). Although his GISTs have shown excellent clinical progress, he still needs ongoing treatment. This case involves an airline pilot applicant for Class-I medical certification who has had GISTs under chemotherapy.

운항관리사 피로관리 법령 시행에 따른 대응 방안 고찰 (A Study on the Countermeasures of the Enforcement of Fatigue Management Act of Flight Dispatcher)

  • In the Aviation Safety Act, the part about fatigue management of Flight dispatcher was added as an amended law. Prior to the amendment of the Act, the regulations on fatigue of flight dispatcher governed by the FOM approved and reported by airlines according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, but were enforced by law from June 9, 2021. In this study, the scope and work type of flight dispatchers are checked, and unlike flight attendants, it is intended to consider legal working hour management measures for flight dispatchers according to the enforcement of the fatigue management act.

Comparative Analysis of Cosmic Radiation Exposure Dose Due to the Russian Detour Route

  • Since the World Health Organization (WHO) officially announced a global pandemic on March 12, 2020, the aviation industry in the world has been experiencing difficulties for a long time. Meanwhile, the Ukraine war broke out in February, and from March 15, domestic airlines must operate air routes bypassing Russian airspace despite the longer flight time. Therefore, as the flight time increases, the cosmic radiation exposure dose of the crew members is also expected to increase. Here we compare the radiation exposure dose between the route doses for the eastern United States and Europe before and after the detour route usage. Through the comparison analysis, we tried to understand how cosmic radiation changes depending on the flight time and the latitude and which one contributes more. We expect that this study can be used for the policy update for the safety management of cosmic radiation for aircrews in Korea.

  • Purpose While research on ESG management in airlines is ongoing, research on airports, especially regional ones, remains insufficient. This study's point of departure is the inquiry into how the local airport industry is addressing global environmental shifts and engaging in ESG management activities. Design/methodology/approach Based on previous studies, the relationship between ESG(Environmental, Social, Governance) management, safety management, reputation, and management performance was analyzed. We analyzed 578 questionnaires through structural equation modeling using AMOS 21.0 to test our hypotheses. Findings First, environmental, social, governance, and safety management have a positive effect on both reputation and business performance. Second, reputation has affected business performance. Third, reputation was affected in the order of governance management, safety management, environmental management, and social management.

  • EBT has designed and implemented a training program that relies on evidence from events such as Flight Operation Quality Assurance (FOQA), accidents, and incidents specific to each airline. The goal is to enhance the overall skills of the flight crew. This involves assessing the capabilities of individual crew members and, based on the findings, providing additional training to address any shortcomings. To create a training program aligned with the objectives of EBT, this study focused on analyzing data from hard landing incidents in domestic airlines obtained through FOQA events. A practical EBT training program was then developed, specifically targeting adverse weather conditions. The program evaluates landing capabilities, and the results guide the supplementation of any deficiencies in the landing skills of each flight crew member, ultimately aiming to enhance their confidence.

  • 항공사가 매년 정기적으로 수행하고 있는 정기 안전 교육 프로그램(Safety Training Programs)을 통한 객실승무원의 안전인식(Safe Recognition) 변화와 직접적인 사고 발생 시 즉시 행동으로 연계되는 안전행동(Safety Behavior)을 연구하여 항공안전의 목표를 달성하고, 사고를 방지하여 항공사의 신뢰도를 향상시키고 다른산업에서 직원안전교육을 수행할 경우 안전교육의 내용,절차, 횟수등을 제시하는 지표로 활용하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 항공사 객실승무원의 안전 교육 프로그램이 객실승무원 안전인식과 행동에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 안전인식이 정기안전교육 프로그램과 안전행동의 관계에 있어서 매개효과(mediating effect)가 있는지 파악해보고자 한다.

항공사고 피해자 가족지원 제도개선 연구 (Study on Improvement of Family Assistance System for Victim's Family of Air Traffic Accident)

  • 항공사고가 발생하게 되면 언론과 일반사회 구성원들은 사고로 인한 피해자에 주목하고 그들에 대한 조치나 보상에도 깊은 관심을 갖게 된다. 하지만, 지난 2002년 발생한 중국국제항공(CCA) 129편의 사고를 통해 우리는 항공사고로 인한 피해자 못지않게 그 가족들 또한 많은 고통을 받으며 심각한 사고 후유증을 겪는다는 현실적인 문제임를 확인할 수 있었다. 그럼에도 항공사고 피해자 가족에 대한 지원에 대한 우리나라의 관련 제도는 매우 빈약하다. 이에 반해 1996년 트랜스월드항공(TWA) 800편이 대서양 상공에서 폭발, 추락한 사고를 계기로 미국에서는 항공사고 피해자의 가족들을 지원하기 위한 법을 제정하였다. 그리고 이 법에 따라 항공사고 피해 당사자뿐만 아니라 그들의 가족들에 대한 체계적인 지원과 관리를 통해 피해자와 피해자 가족들의 추가적인 피해를 최소화 하고 조기에 사고 후유증으로부터 벗어날 수 있도록 지원하고 있다. 특히 2013년 아시아나항공(AAR) 214편이 미국 샌프란시스코 국제공항 착륙 중 추락한 사고에서 미국의 관련 당국이 이러한 법제에 따라 보여준 조치는 우리에게 항공사고에서의 피해자와 그 가족에 대한 지원에 대해 많은 시사점을 보여주고 있다. 이에 이 논문에서는 항공사고에서의 피해자와 피해자 가족 지원에 대한 제도개선의 필요성을 제언하고자 국내 외 관련 법제 체계와 과거 사고에서의 관련 사례를 분석하여 우리나라 제도의 부족한 점을 확인하였고, 관련 제도개선의 필요성을 도출하였다. 항공사고의 수습에서는 사고 피해자에 대한 금전적 피해보상도 중요하지만, 사고 피해자의 가족이 정신적 경제적인 충격으로부터 조기에 벗어나고 사고조사 결과에 대해 신뢰할 수 있도록 하는 것도 중요하다. 피해자 및 가족이 충격에서 벗어나고 사고조사를 신뢰하는 데에는 미국의 경우와 같이 그들에 대한 신속하고 체계적인 지원과 협조가 절실히 요구됨을 관련 정부부처와 항공사 및 유관기관에서는 인식하여야 한다. 그리고 항공기 사고 피해자 및 피해자 가족에 대한 지원을 위한 관련 법률의 보완, 실행 매뉴얼 제정, 계획 수립 및 사고 발생 시 신속한 이행을 위해 노력하여야 할 것이다. 이를 위해 항공사고 피해자 및 가족 지원에 대한 국가와 국가기관의 역할과 책임의 법적 제도화를 위한 규정을 마련할 필요가 있다. 그리고 현행 법률에 명시된 항공사가 제출하여야 하는 피해자 및 가족 지원계획은 그 항목을 구체화할 필요가 있다. 추가하여 신설 및 보완된 내용은 명확한 법 적용을 위해 기존 법률에 단일 조항으로 통합하거나 별도의 특별법으로 제정하는 방안도 제안해 본다.
