Simplified factorizing-technique to improve the efficiency on computational procedure and the complexity of the conventional back-projection algorithm, which is used to reconstruct airborne FMCW-SAR image, is suggested, and the reconstruction process of SAR image by this simplified factorizing-technique are presented in this paper. This technique can be efficiently applied to airborne FMCW-SAR having a relatively narrow beamwidth and long synthetic aperture length, and its basic rationale is to exclude the data that has low level of contribution during computational procedure. Using the raw data of practical airborne FMCW-SAR system, performances of this proposed technique such as SAR image quality and processing time were compared and analyzed.
Very decisive progress was made in advancing fundamental POL-IN-SAR theory and algorithm development during the past decade. This was accomplished with the aid of airborne & shuttle platforms supporting single -to-multi-band multi-modal POL-SAR and also some POL-IN-SAR sensor systems, which will be compared and assessed with the aim of establishing the hitherto not completed but required missions such as tomographic and holographic imaging. Because the operation of airborne test-beds is extremely expensive, aircraft platforms are not suited for routine monitoring missions which is better accomplished with the use drones or UAVs. Such unmanned aerial vehicles were developed for defense applications, however lacking the sophistic ation of implementing advanced forefront POL-IN-SAR technology. This shortcoming will be thoroughly scrutinized resulting in the finding that we do now need to develop most rapidly POL-IN-SAR drone-platform technology especially for environmental stress-change monitoring with a great variance of applications beginning with flood, bush/forest-fire to tectonic-stress (earth-quake to volcanic eruptions) for real-short-time hazard mitigation. However, for routine global monitoring purposes of the terrestrial covers neither airborne sensor implementation - aircraft and/or drones - are sufficient; and there -fore multi-modal and multi-band space-borne POL-IN-SAR space-shuttle and satellite sensor technology needs to be further advanced at a much more rapid phase. The existing ENVISAT with the forthcoming ALOSPALSAR, RADARSAT-2, and the TERRASAT will be compared, demonstrating that at this phase of development the fully polarimetric and polarimetric-interferometric modes of operation must be viewed and treated as preliminary algorithm verification support modes and at this phase of development are still not to be viewed as routine modes.

This paper describes SCTE(System and Control unit Test Equipment) as an integrated test equipment for airborne SAR system and control unit. SCTE enhances reusability of test equipment by modular design for required functions and strengthens automatic testing and test convenience by providing functions such as script-based testing function and report generation function. Also, it includes a navigation data simulator which can simulate various flight conditions. In this paper, we details SCTE requirements, H/W and S/W design, implementation, and test results with control unit and SAR system.

In the airborne SAR, the motion errors induced by atmospheric turbulence decrease the resolution and increase the sidelobes. If the sidelobes are not properly compensated, the image quality is degraded. Thus, in this paper, we have introduced the sidelobe reduction method to increase the image quality. After we calculate the scene center based on the estimated squint angle for the flight path partitioned by the subaperture technique, we perform the motion compensation for the scene center. Then, after we perform the recursive sidelobe reduction for the region of interest in the reconstructed SAR image, we extend it for the full image.
Since it's establishment Malaysian Center for Remote Sensing (MACRES) has focused on the measurements from airborne and space borne remote sensors. In the year 1999 MACRES in collaboration with Multimedia University Malaysia (MMU) began developing it's own remote sensing sensors to meet Malaysian Remote Sensing needs. MACRES adopted a very systematic approached to the development of these microwave sensors. Starting from non-imaging ground base microwave remote sensing sensors MACRES is now well into developing it's first Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar. With the capability of developing it's own sensors MACRES will profit more on the microwave remote sensing application research. This paper will demonstrate MACRES capability in developing Microwave Remote Sensing Sensors to meet Malaysian remote sensing society needs.
A set of microwave remote sensing data collected with the newly developed UMass Imaging Wind and Rain Airborne Profiler (IWRAP) during the 2002 Atlantic Hurricane Season was analyzed to further our understanding of the effect of precipitation on scatterometer wind vector retrieval. Coincident surface wind speed and precipitation measurements were provided by the UMass Simultaneous Frequency Microwave Radiometer (SFMR). The differences between the wind estimations from IWRAP and SFMR under precipitation conditions of 0-100mm/hr and wind speed of 0-60m/s was calculated, from which the effect of precipitation on the wind vector retrieval using scatterometry is analyzed qualitatively.
In tactical theater, it is crucial to detect ground moving targets and to locate them precisely. This problem can be resolved by using SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) sensors providing GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indication) capability. In general, to implement a robust GMTI sensor is not simple because of the strong competitions between target signals and clutter signals from the ground, and low speed of moving targets. Contrary to the case that a delay canceller is mostly suitable for ground surveillance radars, DPCA (Displaced Phase Centered Antenna) or STAP (Space Time Adaptive Processing) techniques have been widely adapted for GMTI function of modern airborne radars. In this paper, a new scheme of DPCA using two passive antennas with vertical separation is proposed, which also provides good clutter cancellation performance. The proposed scheme realizes full azimuth coverage for DPCA operation on an airborne platform, which is impossible with classical DPCA configuration. Simulations using various conditions have been performed to validate the proposed scheme, and the results are acceptable.

In this paper, we propose a method to generate SAR(synthetic aperture radar) images for bistatic radar. The bistatic SAR can overcome several limitations of monostatic SAR, because the former can be applied to a variety of scenarios, compared to the latter. However, no study has been conducted on bistatic SAR imaging so far. In this paper, we propose a method to generate bistatic SAR images using the monostatic equivalent model and conventional monostatic SAR imaging algorithms. Simulations using airborne SAR in the bistatic geometry validated the efficacy of the proposed method.

In the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system, the motion error is the main phase error sources and the motion compensation is very important. The phase gradient autofocus (PGA) is a state of art technique for phase error correction of SAR. It exploits the redundancy of the phase-error information among range bins by selecting the strongest scatter for each range bin and synthesizes them. The motivation of this paper is based on the observation that the redundancy of phase error is also among the cross-range direction. Moreover, the proposed method applies the weighting function to better utilize the phase error information. The validity of the proposed scheme for PGA is tested with some numerical simulation.
