  • In this study, the technologies and regulations for distributing standing column well(SCW) ground source heat pump systems to the residential cluster homes were investigated. They have only been installed in the public or commercial building having different load pattern and site structure compared with the residential cluster homes. Some of SCWs for the residential cluster homes should be installed under the basement due to a lack of site area. There are pressure differences between the SCWs installed under ground surface and basement. It is needed to develop the technology or devices to prevent overflow caused by pressure difference among the SCWs. In addition, heat balance algorithm between SCWs should be adopted to maximize the system efficiency. A heat pump having heating, cooling, hot water, heating-hot water, and cooling-hot water modes should be developed for adopting an individual air-conditioning system to the residential cluster homes.

  • Recently, the development of a heat pump technology to recover process waste heat and to generate steam of $120^{\circ}C$ or higher required for industrial processes, has attracted attention. The research of conventional heat pump utilizing the available energy is used primarily for air conditioning, and the production temperature is about $60^{\circ}C$, so it is difficult to utilize it for industrial use. Therefore, in this study, we developed a steam heat pump (SGHP) which recovers the waste heat of process and generates steam at $120^{\circ}C$. The low-pressure refrigerant R245fa, considered to be an eco-friendly refrigerant, has been selected as the refrigerant for SGHP in this study since its Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) is zero and the Global Warming Potential (GWP) is relatively low. A flash tank functioning as a phase separator was installed in the rear stage of the condenser, and the saturated water of high temperature was decompressed to generate steam. It was started at the initial temperature of $70^{\circ}C$, and it was confirmed that $120^{\circ}C$ steam was produced after the system stabilized. We have conducted experiments by modifying the system, and ultimately achieved a heating capacity of 101.4 kW and a COP of 3.05.

  • In this study, heating performance of the air-cooled heat pump with vapor-injection (VI) cycles, re-heater and solar heat storage tank was investigated experimentally. Devices used in the experiment were comprised of a VI compressor, re-heater, economizer, variable evaporator, flat-plate solar collector for hot water, thermal storage tank, etc. As working fluid, refrigerant R410A for heat pump and propylene glycol (PG) for solar collector were used. In this experiment, heating performance was compared by three cycles, A, B and C. In case of Cycle B, heat exchange was conducted between VI suction refrigerant and inlet refrigerant of condenser by re-heater (Re-heater in Fig. 3, No. 3) (Cycle B), and Cycle A was not use re-heater on the same operating conditions. In case of Cycle C, outlet refrigerant from evaporator go to thermal storage tank for getting a thermal energy from solar thermal storage tank while re-heater also used. As a result, Cycle C reached the target temperature of water in a shorter time than Cycle B and Cycle A. In addition, it was founded that, as for the coefficient of heating performance($COP_h$), the performance in Cycle C was improved by 13.6% higher than the performance of Cycle B shown the average $COP_h$ of 3.0 and by 18.9% higher than the performance of Cycle A shown the average $COP_h$ of 2.86. From this results, It was confirmed that the performance of heat pump system with refrigerant re-heater and VI cycle can be improved by applying solar thermal energy as an auxiliary heat source.

  • The operational conditions such as cooling tower water pump flow rate, cooling tower fan flow rate, and chiller capacity in heat source equipment, and supply air temperature and chilled water temperature in air conditioner are considered to study the effects on energy consumption for central cooling system by using TRNSYS program. As a result, the optimal values of supply air temperature and chilled water temperature for minimal total energy consumption are 12℃ and 8℃. And if maximum values of cooling tower water pump and fan flow rate is decreased from 100% to 40%, energy consumptions are increased 170MJ/day and 63.2MJ/day, respectively.

  • Geothermal heat pump (GHP) systems have become an efficient alternative to conventional cooling and heating methods due to their higher energy using efficiency. These systems use the ground as a heat source in heating mode operation and a heat sink in cooling mode operation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the heating performance of the GHP system for a residential building ($420m^2$) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of a sustainable performance of this system, we installed the water-to-water geothermal heat pump with ten vertical ground heat exchangers and measured operation parameters from October 19, 2013 to March 26, 2014. The results showed that the entering source temperature of brine from the ground heat exchangers was in a range of the design target temperature of $-10^{\circ}C$ for heating. For total values of the representative results, the ground heat exchangers extracted heat of 53.51 MWh from the ground. In addition, the GHP system supplied heat of 83.55 MWh to the building and consumed power of 30.27 MWh. Consequently, the average heating seasonal performance factor ($SPF_h$) of the overall system was evaluated to be 2.76 during the measurement period of the heating season.

  • Performance analysis of an absorption heat pump system for solar energy recovery has been done by computer simulation to find improved working pairs. Based on the thermodynamic analysis, the coefficient of performance and mass flow ratio have been calculated to compare two aqueous solutions [LiCl-water, $LiCi-CaCl_2-Zn(NO_3)_2$-water] which were developed for cooling by others, with the conventional LiBr-water solution. As a result of this analysis, the performances of the new aqueous solutions were found to be better than that of LiBr-water solution not only in cooling systems, but also in heating and in heat transformer systems. Their theoretical thermodynamic performance data were given here with.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of refrigerant heat exchanger on the performance of type II absorption heat pump performance using numerical analysis. Two heat exchange installation methods were used: solution to refrigerant and waste hot water to refrigerant. These methods were compared to the standard model of hot water flow without using refrigerant heat exchanger. When waste hot waters were bypassed to refrigerant heat exchanger, COP was not affected. However, steam mass generation rates were increased compared to those of the standard model. When solutions were bypassed to the refrigerant heat exchanger, results were different depending on the place where the solution rejoined. COP and steam mass generation rates were lower compared to those when waste heat water was passed to refrigerant heat exchanger. Thus, it is possible to obtain higher steam mass generation rates by using waste water and installing refrigerant heat exchanger.

  • This paper presents the heating performance of a water-to-refrigerant type ground source heat pump system (GSHP) installed in a school building. The evaluation of the heating performance has been conducted under the actual operating conditions of GSHP system in the winter. Ten units with the capacity of 10 HP each were installed in the building. Also, a closed vertical typed-ground heat exchanger with 24 boreholes of 175 m in depth was constructed for the GSHP system. For analyzing the heating performance of the GSHP system, we monitored various operating conditions, including the outdoor temperature, the ground temperature, and the water temperature of inlet and outlet of the ground heat exchanger. Simultaneously, the heating capacity and the input power were evaluated for determining the heating performance of the GSHP system. The average heating coefficient of performance (COP) of the heat pump was found to be 5.1 at partial load of 46.9%, while the overall system COP was found to be 4.2.
