Recently, because of the deterioration of the nuclear generating station and increase of the cooler and heater, energy problem is increasing. To save the energy, the free cooling system is developed. The free cooling system is that cool the water to use cooled air in winter and is used in industrial process or data center. Yoon check the energy of free cooling system with dry cooler in korea. In this study, the value of the free cooling system with dry cooler is confirmed through using the NPV that is economic evaluation. when temperature degree of the cooled water is 10, in Chuncheon and Seoul the value is the most high. When temperature degree of the cooled water is 20, in Ulsan the value is the most high. As the result, because the using the temperature degree of the cooled water is high in the industrial process, the free cooling system is advantageous in korea.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the microstucture and hardness, corrosion of pure Ti alloy, which is widely used as partial denture frame work these days, depending on the cooling method, followed by casting. The first group was bench cooling at room temperature($18^{\circ}C$), the second group was slowly cooled in the furnace from $700^{\circ}C$ to room temperature, and third. rapidly cooled in $0^{\circ}C$ water. The microstructure of each specimen observed by means of photomicrograph taken by electron microscope, in add to the physical characteristics of each specimen were obtained using the rockwell Hardnest Number. the characteristics of corrosion. The results were obtained as follows: 1. From Potentiodynamic plot. we conclude furnace-cooled specimen had the best stabiltity of passive film and that air-cooled specimen showed similar characteristics. The density of electric current of quenched specimen was the highest, which formed kind of unstable passive film. 2. Specimen cooled at room temperature (air cooling) had the highest value of hardness of 81.26HRB, specimen cooled at ice-water, $0^{\circ}C$, had the value of 78.42HRB, and specimen furnace-cooled at $700^{\circ}C$ had lowest value of 77.1HRB. 3. Quenching treated micro-structure formed martensite structure by and large. In case of air cooling, we could see $\alpha$-structure widmanstatten formed overall. In furnace cooling, widmanstatten structure and various shape $\alpha$-structures forming colony with direction were detected.
The effects of the cooling and annealing conditions on the microstructures and corrosion properties were investigated for the Cu-contained Zr-Nb alloy (Zr-1.1Nb-0.07Cu). After annealing at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 15 min, the specimens were cooled by three methods of water quenching, air cooling, and furnace cooling. Widmanstatten structures were developed in both air- and furnace-cooled specimens, and the Widmanstatten plate width of the furnace-cooled specimens was wider than that of the air-cooled ones. The weight gain in the furnace-cooling case was higher than that in the air-cooling case. This could be the reason why the diffusion time was more enough during the furnace cooling than the air cooling. The oxide of the furnace-cooled specimen was nonunformly formed just beneath the Widmanstatten plate boundaries, where ${\beta}_{Zr}$ phases were exised concentrately. Compared with the $640^{\circ}C$ annealing after the water quenching, the $570^{\circ}C$ annealing could make the ${\beta}_{Nb}$ phases and a concomitant reduction of the Nb in the matrix, and then it could improve the corrosion resistance with the increase of the annealing time. It would be concluded that the corrosion resistance of the Zr-1.1Nb-0.07Cu was good when the Nb concentration in the matrix was reached at an equilibrium level and then the ${\beta}_{Nb}$ phase was formed.

Ferronickel slag is a by-product from the ferronickel smelting process and it is divided into air-cooled ferronickel slag and water granulated ferronickel slag according to cooling system. The purpose of this experimental resesrch is to investigate the mechanical properties and resistance to freezing and thawing of concrete using air-cooled ferronickel slag(ACFNS) fine aggregate. For this purpose, the concrete specimens with water-cement ratio of 50% were made with ACFNS's replacement ratios of 0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 70%, and 100% by volume of fine aggregate. It was observed from the test results that the compressive strength and static modulus of elasticity of ACFNS fine aggregate concrete were increased with increasing replacement ratio of ACFNS and the resistance to freezing and thawing of this was similar to reference concrete which had the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity of more than 90% during the freezing and thawing of 300 cycles.

Air-cooled split-type air conditioners (AC) are very popular in high-rise residential and commercial buildings in Korea. The performance of such AC systems varies significantly with system characteristics and environmental conditions. Particularly, the outdoor condensing unit of the system, if poorly cooled due to high density of AC distribution and restricted outdoor space, will result in large decrease of cooling efficiency and increase of electrical energy consumption and may further jeopardize the system reliability. This paper presents a numerical analysis on the thermal and energy performance of a group of air-cooled air conditioners installed at a courtyard of a high-rise building. The study introduces a series of new energy performance indices to assess the group performance of the AC condensers with different outdoor unit layouts. The results not only indicate the COP of the systems, but also quantify the system capacity and energy consumption. The evaluation method and indices developed are useful for guiding the design of the distribution plan of the AC units at building re-entrants.

The air-cooled passive decay heat removal system (APDHR) was proposed to provide the ultimate heat sink for non-LOCA accidents. The APDHR is a modified one of Passive Auxiliary Feed-water system (PAFS) installed in APR+. The PAFS has a heat exchanger in the Passive Condensate Cooling Tank (PCCT) and can remove decay heat for 8 h. After that, the heat transfer rate through the PAFS drastically decreases because the heat transfer condition changes from water to air. The APDHR with a vertical heat exchanger in PCCT will be able to remove the decay heat by air if it has sufficient natural convection in PCCT. We conducted the thermal-hydraulic simulation by the MARS code to investigate the behavior of the APR + selected as a reference plant for the simulation. The simulation contains two phases based on water depletion: the early phase and the late phase. In the early phase, the volume of water in PCCT was determined to avoid the water depletion in three days after shutdown. In the late phase, when the number of the HXs is greater than 4089 per PCCT, the MARS simulation confirmed the long-term cooling by air is possible under extended Station Blackout (SBO).

An experimental study was performed to understand the heat transfer and fluid dynamic characteristics of Sub-Cooled Hybrid Condenser (SCHC), which conventional condenser and receiver dryer are integrated into. SCHC also employs a sub-cooled refrigerant passages at the end of the condenser in order to supply perfect liquid refrigerant to the expansion unit. Throughout the present study, it was found that the developed SCHC increases in the degree of sub-cooling by 10~100% compared to conventional condenser. The excessive sub-cooling has improved the cooling performance by 10%, and that leads reduction in evaporator outlet air temperature by $1.5^{\circ}C$. Also found through the study is that the refrigerant pressure drop across SCHC is fairly increased due to insertion of the desiccant cartridge in the receiver tank which is composed of zeolite, filter and supporter plate.

In these days, there are out of natural sands in the construction field. It is required that development of substitute material for natural material. The blast-furnace slag could be a good alternative material in this situation. It can help resource recycling and the protection of environment. This study presents that the strength properties of mortar using air-cooled blast-furnace slag sand and water-cooled blast-furnace slag sand. The mixing design of this study have a few factors, three type of unit water, four types of W/C, five types of substitution rate. When air-cooled furnace slag sand used in mortar, as substitution rate is higher, 3, 7-days compression strength and flexural strength are going up. But, in case of water-cooled furnace slag sand mortar, strengths are going down.
A new air-cooled waste heat removal system with a direct contact heat exchanger was designed for SMRs requiring 200 MW of waste heat removal. Conventional air-cooled systems use fin structure causing high thermal resistance; therefore, a large cooling tower is required. The new design replaces the fin structure with a vertical string type direct contact heat exchanger which has the most effective performance among tested heat exchangers in a previous study. The design results showed that the new system requires a cooling tower 50% smaller than that of the conventional system. However, droplet formation on a falling film along a string caused by Rayleigh-Plateau instability decreases heat removal performance of the new system. Analysis of Rayleigh-Plateau instability considering drag force on the falling film surface was developed. The analysis results showed that the instability can be prevented by providing thick string. The instability is prevented when the string radius exceeds the capillary length of liquid by a factor of 0.257 under stagnant air and 0.260 under 5 m/s air velocity.

A numerical study was conducted to calculate the cooling capacity variation of a power plant ACC (air-cooled condenser) caused by changes in operating conditions. A numerical model was developed using the ${\varepsilon}-NTU$ and finite volume method, containing 100 elements for a single low fin tube. The model was validated through a comparison of cooling capacity between the simulated values and manufacturer's data. Even though simple assumptions and previously presented heat transfer correlations were applied to the model, the prediction error was 1.9%. The simulated variables of the operating conditions were air velocity, air temperature, and mass flux. The analysis on the variation of thermal resistance along the tube showed that the water side thermal resistance was higher than the air side thermal resistance at the downstream end of the tube, indicating that the ACC capacity could be increased by applying technology to enhance in-tube flow condensation heat transfer.
