  • This paper analyzes the differences in the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers. After having identified what constitutes the decisive factors with regards to air cargo service quslity, research was carried out to evaluate the differences in the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers. Moreover, this paper analyzes these differences by separating air cargo service providers into Korean and international air cargo service providers. In order to attain the objectives of this research, the air cargo service sectors were divided into three general categories: supply capability(H/W), service accountability, and competitiveness of service fees and management capability(S/W). The researchers then placed 6 different criteria into each service category, for a total of 18. The evaluation of the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers revealed very little difference between these two groups. With regards to the service criteria found in each service category, our research found marked differences between the service quality priorities of providers and customers in only three of the 18 criteria. However, we found marked differences in service quality priorities in 7 of the 18 criteria when the air cargo service providers were divided into Korean and international air cargo providers. While domestic air cargo service providers evaluated management's capability to handle cargo accidents and incidents as the most important priority, international air cargo service providers placed the highest priority on the cargo rate system. The results of this research imply that in order to properly evaluate the differences between the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers, the air cargo service providers itself should be separated between the Korean air cargo service providers and the foreign providers because of their respective inherent perception on service quality.

  • In the low velocity displacement air-conditioning system, the conditioned air is supplied from the diffuser placed on the wall near the floor and vented near the ceiling. This system has some advantages upon the traditional mixing system; the air quality near the people is improved by the displacing action of the system and the energy may be saved by neglecting the cooling or heating load for the upper space of the space above the people. This study is to examine the temperature and velocity distributions in the room and near the diffuser. It is found that the temperature is stratified uniformly all over the room space to show the displacing function of the system.

  • Quantitative assessment on the impact from North Korean emissions to surface particulate matter(PM) concentration in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA), South Korea is conducted using a 3-dimensional chemistry transport model. Transboundary transport of air pollutants and their precursors are important to understand regional air quality in East Asian countries. As North Korea locates in the middle of main transport pathways of Chinese pollutants, quantifiable estimation of its impact is essential for policy making in South Korean air quality management. In this study, the Community Multiscale Air Quality Modeling System is utilized to simulate regional air quality and its sensitivity, using the Comprehensive Regional Emissions inventory for Atmospheric Transport Experiment 2015 and the Clean Air Policy Support System 2013 emissions inventories for North and South Korea, respectively. Contributions were estimated by a brute force method, perturbing 50% of North and South Korean emissions. Simulations demonstrate that North Korean emissions contribute $3.89{\mu}g/m^3$ of annual surface PM concentrations in the SMA, which accounts 14.7% of the region's average. Impacts are dominant in nitrate and organic carbon (OC) concentrations, attributing almost 40% of SMA OC concentration during January and February. Clear seasonal variations are also found in North Korean emissions contribution to South Korea (and vice versa) due to seasonal characteristics of synoptic weather, especially by the change of seasonal flow patterns.

  • Indoor Air Quality(IAQ) affects physical and mental state of person who is residing indoor. Also, it manages daily life condition of Indoor Air in the building. According to the study, office workers spend 23 hours and 12 minutes, about 97% of his/her day indoor. Therefore, Indoor air quality affects not only the health of the person whose staying inside for a long hours but also the productivity and efficiency of work. This study conduct investigations on employees' awareness of indoor air quality of office in university. By doing so, we are able to determine current situation and provide basic data of improvement for derived problems. As a result, most of the respondents were not satisfied with ventilation and moisture which are elements of Indoor Air Quality. These led people to struggle with symptoms of health. Therefore, to improve the indoor air quality of a university office, it is necessary to exchange the air six times an hour according to recommendation of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)in the United States. Also, plan for Ventilation system that consider temperature, humidity and air flow indoor shall be provided for high quality conformability. furthermore, It is necessary to consider the multilateral in factors of generation of revenue through health care savings of workers and improvement of productivity.

  • The air quality index (AQI) is an index for reporting daily or hourly air quality to the general public. The AQI focuses on health effects that can happen within a few hours or days after breathing polluted air. Many countries have their own AQI reporting systems, and the HAEI (hourly air environment index) method is now being used in Korea. In this study, in order to compare the AQI results from different methods, we applied three methods. i.e. US AQI, Canadian AQI, and Korean HAEI, to the same air quality data-base. The data-base was constructed from 10 monitoring sites in Gyeong-buk province for the last four years since 2000. Based on the results, a critical evaluation of the Korean HAEI method was made, and a number of suggestions and recommendations were presented to improve the AQI reporting system in Korea.

  • A numerical study has been carried out on the optimization of an air cleaning system which was installed in a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC) system of subway station for particle removal. Required particle removal efficiencies of three different air cleaning systems were calculated from ventilation rate, and indoor/outdoor concentration of PM10. Mass balance equations of PM10 were used to solve the required particle removal efficiencies. Fibrous filter was considered as an air cleaning system. Calculations were carried out about two different places which were waiting area and platform of subway station, respectively. This study proposed optimized design and operation condition of each air cleaning system.

  • Air quality and pollution have recently become a major concern; vehicle emissions significantly pollute the air, especially in large and crowded cities. There are various factors that affect vehicle emissions; this research aims to find the most influential factors affecting $CO_2$ and $NO_x$ emissions using Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) as well as a systematic approach. The modified ANFIS (MANFIS) was developed to enhance modelling and Root Mean Square Error was used to evaluate the model performance. The results show that percentages of $CO_2$ from trucks represent the best input combination to model. While for $NO_x$ modelling, the best pair combination is the vehicle delay and percentage of heavy trucks. However, the final MANFIS structure involves two inputs, three membership functions and nine rules. For $CO_2$ modelling the triangular membership function is the best, while for $NO_x$ the membership function is two-sided Gaussian.

  • This paper presents the disributions and variations of CO, $CO_2$, number of people and temperature in underground shopping center and subway of Seomyeon and Jagalchi in Pusan, Korea for two times during October and November in 1993, respectively. NDIR analyzer is used for the analysis of CO and $CO_2$. The temperature is obtained from a mercury therometer. The results o( observation and analysis show that the variation of $CO_2$ is strongly related to number of people and temperature. The correlation coefficients between temperature, COB and Number of people are higher than 0. at both of places. The pollution of CO2 of Seomyeon is higher than that of Jagachi in underground shopping center. However, CO is not correlated with the temperature and the Number of people. From the results, we found that the indoor air quality monitoring system is needed for the prevention of the underground air Pollution.

  • The urban railway system is a convenient public transportation system, as it carries many people without increasing traffic congestion. However, air quality in urban railway environments is worse than ambient air quality due to the internal location of the source of air pollutants and the isolated space. In this paper, characteristics of particulate matter (PM) pollution in urban railway environments are described from the perspective of diurnal variation, chemical composition and source apportionment of PM. PM concentrations in concourse, platform, passenger cabin, and tunnel are summarized through an analysis of 34 journal articles published in Korea and overseas. This information will be helpful in developing effective policies to reduce PM pollution in urban railway environments.

  • The surface ozone concentrations changes were investigated in response to climate change over the Korean peninsula for summertime using the global-regional one way coupled Integrated Climate and Air quality Modeling System (ICAMS). The future simulations were conducted under the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (SRES) A2 and B1 scenarios. The modeling system was applied for four 10-year simulations: 1996~2005 as a present-day case, 2016~2025, 2046~2055, and 2091~2100 as future cases. The results in this study showed that the mean surface ozone concentrations increased up to 0.5~3.3 ppb under the A2, but decreased by 0.1~10.9 ppb under the B1 for the future, respectively. However, its increases were lower than an increase of the average daily maximum 8-hour (DM8H) surface ozone concentrations which was projected to increase by 2.8~6.5 ppb under the A2. The DM8H surface ozone concentrations seem to be therefore far more affected by the climate and emissions changes than mean values. The probability of exceeding 60 ppb was projected to increase by 6~19% under the A2. In the case of B1, its changes were presented with an increase of 2.9% in the 2020s but no occurrence in the 2100s due to the effect of the reduced emissions. Future projection on surface ozone concentrations was generally shown to have almost the similar trend as the emissions of $NO_x$ and NMVOC.
