This paper presents the Coefficient of performance(COP) and mass flow ratio of cascade refrigeration system with respect to refrigerants appling to high temperature cycle. The operating parameters considered in this study include degree of superheating and subcooling, compressor efficiency, evaporating temperature, condensing temperature and internal heat exchanger effectiveness in high temperature cycle. The result of this study is as follows : The COP of cascade system increases with increasing degree of superheating and subcooling, compressor efficiency and internal heat exchanger effectiveness except increasing condensing temperature. The mass flow ratio of low and high temperature cycle increases with increasing evaporating temperature and condensing temperature, but decreases with increasing internal heat exchanger effectiveness, degree of superheating and subcooling. Also, the mass flow ratio has no correlation with compressor efficiency at high temperature cycle.

Cycle simulation is peformed for two types of the desiccant cooling system incorporating a regenerative evaporative cooler. The cooling capacity and COP are evaluated at various effectiveness values of the regenerative evaporative cooler, the desiccant rotor and the sensible heat exchanger. As either of the effectiveness of the regenerative evaporative cooler or the humidity effectiveness of the desiccant rotor increases, both the cooling capacity and COP increase, but the enthalpy leak ratio gives the opposite effect on the system performance. It is found that COP of cycle A mainly depends on the humidity effectiveness of the desiccant rotor, while for cycle B enthalpy leak ratio of desiccant rotor has the major impact on COP. The effect of the sensible heat exchanger on the cooling capacity is small about 1/10 compared with those of other components.

Plastic plate heat exchangers have many advantages over the conventional heat exchangers such as aluminum plate heat exchangers, rotary wheel heat exchangers and heat pipe heat exchangers which have been used for ventilation heat recovery in the air-conditioning systems. In the present study, pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of plastic plate heat exchangers are investigated for various design parameters and operating conditions which affect the performance of the plastic plate heat exchangers. In flat plate type heat exchanger, material thickness and channel height of heat exchanger are considered, and corrugate size and heat transfer area are considered in case of corrugate type heat exchanger. Pressure drop and effectiveness of the corrugate type heat exchanger increase as the corrugate size decreases.

A ceramic monolith heat exchanger is studied to find the performance of heat transfer and pressure drop by numerical computation and $\xi$-NTU method. The numerical computation was performed throughout the domain including fluid region in exhaust gas-side rectangular ducts, ceramic core and fluid region in air-side rectangular duct with the air and exhaust in cross flow direction. In addition, the heat exchanger was also analyzed to estimate the performance by conventional $\xi$-NTU method with several Nusselt number correlations for flow in rectangular duct from literature. By comparisons of both performances by the numerical computation and the $\xi$-NTU method, the effectiveness by $\xi$-NTU method was closest to the result by numerical computation within a relative error of 2.14% when Stephan's Nusselt number correlation was adopted to the $\xi$-NTU method among the several correlations.

The performance of heat exchanger using oscillating heat pipe (OHP) for low temperature waste heat recovery was evaluated. OHP used in this study was made from low finned copper tubes connected by many turns to become the closed loop of serpentine structure. The OHP heat exchanger was formed into shell and tube type. R-22 and R-141b were used as the working fluids of OHP with a fill ratio of 40 vol.%. Water was used as the working fluid of shell side. As the experimental parameters, the inlet temperature difference between heating and cooling water and the mass velocity of water were changed. The mass velocity of water was changed from 30 kg/$m^2$s to 92 kg/$m^2$s. The experimental results showed that the heat recovery rate linearly increased as the mass velocity and the inlet temperature difference of water increased. Finally, the performance of OHP heat exchanger was evaluated by $\varepsilon$-NTU method. It was found that the effectiveness would be 80% if NTU were about 1.5.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of a transcritical cycle for hot water heating using $CO_2$ as a working fluid. Some of the main parameters that affect the practical performance of the $CO_2$ system are discussed; the performance on the variation of refrigerant charge, changes in flow conditions of secondary fluids, and that with or without internal heat exchanger, The experimental results show that the optimum charge is approximately the same for various mass flow rates of the secondary fluid at gas cooler. The experimental results on the effect of secondary fluids are in general agreement with the experimental results of transcritical cycle in the open literature and show similar trend for conventional subcritical vapor compression cycles. The heat exchanger effectiveness increases with an increase of the heat exchange area of the internal heat exchanger regardless of the mass flow rate at the gas cooler.
This paper considers the influence of internal heat exchangers on the efficiency of a refrigerating system using R-1270. These internal heat exchangers(liquid-gas or suction-line heat exchangers) can, in some cases, yield improved system performance while in other cases they degrade system performance. A steady state mathematical model is used to analysis the performance characteristics of refrigeration system with internal heat exchanger. The influence of operating conditions, such as the mass flowrate of R-1270, inner diameter tube and length of internal heat exchanger, to optimal dimensions of the heat exchanger is also analyzed. The main results were summarized as follows : the mass flowrate of R-1270, inner diameter tube and length of internal heat exchanger, and effectiveness have the influences on the cooling capacity, compressor work and RCI(Relative Capacity Index) of this system. With a thorough grasp of it is possible to design the R-1270 compression refrigeration cycle using internal heat exchanger.

Performance of heat exchanger was evaluated to heat exchanger using oscillating heat pipe for waste heat recovery of low temperature. Oscillating heat pipe used in this study was formed to the closed loop of serpentine shapes using copper tubes. Heat exchanger was formed to shell and tube type and composed of low finned tube. R-22 and R-141b were used to the working fluids of tube side and their charging ratio was 40%. And, water was used to the working fluid of shell side. As the experimental parameters, the inlet temperature difference of heating and cooling part of secondary fluid and the mass velocity of secondary fluid were used. The mass velocity of secondary fluid was changed from 90 kg/$m^2s\; to\;190 kg/m^2$s from the experimental results, heat recovery rate was linearly increased to the increment of the mass velocity of secondary fluid and the inlet temperature difference of secondary fluid. Finally, the performance of heat exchanger was evaluated by using $\varepsilon$-NTU method. It was found that NTU was about 1.5 when effectiveness was decided to 80%.

The objective of this study is to analyze theoretically the performance of an open air-cycle refrigeration system in which environmental concerns increase. The pressure ratio of the external compressor and efficiencies of the components that compose of the system are selected as important parameters. As the pressure ratio of the external compressor increases, the pressure ratio of the ACM compressor is determined high, the refrigerating temperature and capacity increase, the COP decreases, and the total entropy production rate increases. The effect of heat exchanger effectiveness and turbine efficiency on the performance are greater than that of the ACM compressor efficiency. Also the performance of the air-cycle refrigeration system with two heat exchangers has been enhanced like high COP and low total entropy production rate, compared to the system with one heat exchanger.

An enthalpy exchanger in which heat and moisture transfer occur between the indoor and outdoor air operates at various outdoor conditions. In this study, the effect of the outdoor-air temperature and humidity on the performance of an enthalpy exchanger was experimentally investigated. An apparatus was specially-made to accurately measure the incoming and outgoing dry- and wet-bulb air temperatures as well as the flow rates. Tests were conducted in constant-temperature and constant-humidity chambers at different outdoor temperatures and humidities. It is shown that the effectiveness of latent-heat exchange increases as the relative humidity increases; further, this effect exhibited minimal dependence on the absolute humidity. However, the effectiveness of sensible-heat exchange is independent of both temperature and humidity
