  • This study was conducted to monitor the current status of pesticide residues in a total of 297 agricultural products for raw juice from January 2017 to September 2017. Pesticide residues in samples were analyzed by multiresidue method for the determination of multiclass pesticide with an aim to detect 220 pesticides using GC/ECD, GC/NPD, TOF/MS, LC/PDA, LC/FLD, and LC/MS-MS. The analysis revealed the presence of nine pesticides in 14 samples. The detected pesticides were chlorpyrifos, cyflufenamid, chlorothalonil, pendimethalin, azoxystrobin, pyridalyl, imazalil, fludioxonil and procymidone. The kinds of detected crops were mandarin, carrot, apple, celery, chicory, orange and grape. Risk assessment evaluated human health exposure with the ratio of EDI (Estimated daily intake) to ADI (Acceptable daily intake) of pesticides detected and the range of %ADI (the ratio of EDI to ADI) values was 0.0011~6.7087% and safety level.

  • Monitoring of pesticide residues were conducted at three sites in the Southern Area of Seoul, Korea (Gang-nam, Gang-dong and Song-pa). We measured pesticide residues within soil samples using multi-pesticide residues analysis. Samples were collected at the three sites with 60 sampling spots. The amount of pesticide residues in the soil samples were as follows [(minimum-maximum), mg/kg] endosulfan 0.002-0.999, procymidone 0.002-1.200, diazinon 0.003-0.024, metalaxyl 0.012-0.075. In soil treated with 0.445 mg/kg of endosulfan, the pesticide absorbed by chamnamul, was 0.157 mg/kg (Absorption rate : 35.3%). However, in soil treated with 0.358 mg/kg of endosulfan, the pesticide absorbed by lettuce, was 0.004 mg/kg (Absorption rate : 1.1%).

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate the impact of Chinese cinnamon powder (w/w), at the levels of 0.5%, 1.5%, and 2.5% and control (without additive) on ground lamb meat quality. The samples were stored at 4℃ and examined for pH, color, lipid oxidation (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances) and total viable counts (TVC). The results demonstrated that pH values were declined with the increase of Chinese cinnamon levels compared to control group. The L* values throughout the storage were significantly higher (p<0.05) in the control group than in other treatment groups, while a* values were decreased with the increase of Chinese cinnamon levels. The addition of Chinese cinnamon powder strongly inhibited (p<0.05) thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and TVC in all treated samples. It can be concluded that Chinese cinnamon powder in lower concentration 0.5% has the ability to maintain the quality of ground lamb in comparison with other treated samples.

  • This study was conducted to monitor residual pesticides in perilla leaf & lettuce and to assess their risk to human health. The total number of perilla leaf & lettuce were 4,063 and 2,248 respectively and these products were collected at the Garak-dong Agricultural & Marine Products Market sold by auction from 2010 to 2012. Multi-residual analysis of 285 pesticides were performed by GC-ECD, GC-NPD, HPLC-DAD and HPLC-FLD. In perilla leaf, 61 pesticides were detected and detection rate was 20.0%. 28 pesticides were detected in case of lettuce and detection rate was 4.8%. In order to do risk assessment by perilla leaf & lettuce consumption, estimated daily intake of residual pesticides were determined and compared to acceptable daily intake, referring to hazard index (HI values). The range of % HI values of perilla leaf was from 0.000% to 0.049%. The range of % HI values of lettuce was from 0.000% to 0.095%. These results show that the risk caused by pesticide residues in perilla leaf & lettuce intake were very low and these vegetable intake was safe.

  • This study was carried out to monitor the current status of pesticide residues in selling agricultural products via online and assessed their safety in 2014. A total of 124 samples were purchased six times from March to August 2014 twenty online shopping malls randomly. These samples were analysed 208 pesticides by multiresidue method using a GC-ECD/NPD and a LC-MS/MS and confirmed by a GC-MSD. As a result of analysis, residual pesticides samples were 11 (8.9%) such as leek, young radish, welsh onion etc, of which 2 samples (1.6%) such as sesame bud (Chlorothalonil), artemisia (Chlorpyrifos) were violated Korea Maximum Residue limits (MRLs). 11 kinds of pesticides (19 times) were detected in 11 samples. Risk assessment evaluated human health exposure with the ratio of EDI (Estimated daily intake) to ADI (Acceptable daily intake) of pesticides detected. %ADI (the ratios of EDI to ADI) were 0.04~95.70% and some samples represented a fairly dangerous levels. In particular, Chlorothalonil in the sesame bud was shown as a significant risk close to 100% of %ADI. Accordingly, it is recommended to strengthen a safety check on agricultural products in online sales.

  • The monitoring of the uniconazole residual pesticide for agricultural products was conducted by multiclass pesticide multiresidue methods. Samples were collected from June to November, 2011. Uniconazole pesticide was detected in 49 samples from a total of 3,939 samples. The amount of uniconazole pesticide ranged from 0.09 to 17.89 mg/kg in 49 samples. This method was described for the simultaneous determination of uniconazole by gas chromatography with a nitrogen phosphorus detector (GC-NPD) and mass spectrometry (MS). The limit of detection and quantification were 0.006 and 0.018 mg/kg GC-NPD, respectively. For an evaluation of the GC-NPD method, uniconazole spiked into gyeojachae at a level of 0.5, 5 mg/kg was determined. The recoveries of uniconazole by the GC-NPD method ranged from 83.4 to 101.4%. The results indicate that the method of simultaneous analysis is applicable to uniconazole analysis.

  • Dietary exposure assessment by ages was performed in this study using pesticide residues data examined in vegetable commodities collected in Seoul from 2007 to 2009, and the vegetable intakes for Seoulites which were obtained after analysing the Korea National Health and Nutrition examination survey data of 2008. There was a statistical difference for vegetable intakes by ages (P<0.001). Vegetable intake was the highest in 40~59 age group and was the lowest in under 5 age group. The %ADI was calculated using vegetable pesticide residues and vegetable intake for Seoulites by ages. Considering below 1 of the %ADI by ages, the risk caused by pesticide residues in vegetables was very low and vegetable intake was safe.
