  • Using the modified DEM (Discrete Element Method), which we proposed in order to improve the accuracy of the simulation, soil behavior and reaction by lugs of rotating wheel and a soil cutting process by a high speed blade were calculated and compared with experimental data. The DEM is one of computational mechanics, where the object body is supposed as an assembly of small particles called elements and not a continuum as in the case of FEM. We can easily treat some discrete phenomena such as cracking, separating and sliding by the DEM. We had to modify the original mechanical model, which induced too free movement of elements, adding a tension spring, which would display the role of soil adhesion. The results of DEM simulations were successful from both the soil behavior and reaction points of view.

  • This study aims to examine the characteristics of farming settlement in young farmers. In order to analyze the effect of each characteristic on young farmers' intention for settling into farming, an ordered logit model was employed. As for the individual characteristics affecting their intention for settling into farming, age and the highest education level showed a positive effect, while family-run farming had a negative effect, which was found statistically significant. For the financial characteristics, farm income had a statistically significant positive effect. On the other hand, the social and policy characteristics did not show any statistically significant effect.

  • Two transversely isotropic plasticity-based models for wood, derived from the standard compression properties and the embedment properties were investigated for suitability of application for bolted connections. It was found that the conventional connection models involving the compression properties were incapable of simulating the real behaviour of the connections because the compression properties provided too stiff foundation to represent embedding behaviour of wood under the bolt. However, wood foundation-based connection model that was newly developed using the bolt embedment properties showed good agreement with the actual behaviour of bolted connections.

  • Complex gear shifting and high speed-reduction ratio reduce the transmission efficiency in power driveline of agricultural tractors. According to a field test, the power transmission efficiency of a tractor in transporting operations was estimated about 70%. However, the actual efficiency was found by the experiment to fluctuate in a range of 56 to 87%. Therefore, the constant efficiency model commonly used for a simulation of power drivelines is not likely to simulate its performance more accurately. In order to predict power transmission efficiency more accurately, a new model was proposed and the new concepts of the maximum efficiency and sticking torque were introduced. The error mean between the measured and the predicted efficiencies was about 2.3% in mean. The new model reflecting the transmission characteristics in the power driveline of tractors could be used to analyze and predict the power transmission performance of tractors more accurately.

  • This research is to establish a theme-type organic edu-farm model and provide ways to practically apply it so as to vitalize urban-rural exchange through the emerging concept of green tourism. This research also traces the practical development of organic edu-farm programs. Organic edu-farm(OEF) should be some of the ideas to develop organic agriculture resources according to the local features, and learn by direct and actual experience a life of organic farm. A few policy suggestions to put OEF model in practical use are proposed. What the state needs to do through direct involvement are to put efforts at demand expansion on organic farm products, to clean and beautify the green rural environmental settings, to build more urban-rural exchange facilities. What is more important, however, is financial support, to create the network and to develop program contents for each OEF operation unit. The OEF model proposed in this research will be applied as a relevant reference in planning and realizing sustainable green tourism at the village level.

  • This thesis has analyzed the determination factor for the crop insurance of rice focused on paddy rice. The analysis on each farmer has been used with integrated probit model & random effects probit model. It has shown in the analysis result of determination factor for buying the crop insurance of paddy rice farmer through integrated probit model & random effects probit model that the higher age, degree of education, cultivated area, and amount of received insurance money and the lower in a number of family member have revealed the higher possibility to buy the crop insurance in the integrated probit model. While the random effects probit model has shown a higher possibility to buy the crop insurance as the higher age, cultivated area, and amount of received insurance money.
