To examine the seedling stand and growth as affected by early seeding dates of dry direct seeded rice in the Honam plain area of Korea, Dongjinbyeo was seeded at six seeding dates from early March to late April in rice fields of silty loam soil(Jeonbuk series) at the National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES) for two years, 1996 and 1998. Seedling stand decreased slightly. with an early seeding date, but it produced more than the optimum seedling number except for the seeding of 25 March in 1996. Days to emergence was significantly longer, as seeding date was earlier, and days to emergence by early seeding was shortened only by 8 days because the mean air temperature was lower in 1996 than average, while in 1998, the reduction effect was nine to twenty five days because the mean air temperature was higher than average. In early seeding, various weeds occurred at the emergence date of rice and dominant weeds were Alopecurus aequailis, Ludwigia prostata and Rorippa islandica. NH$_4$$^{+}$ -N content in the soil at the 5th leaf stage and maximum tillering stage were lower, as the seeding date was earlier when nitrogen was split applied as basal and top dressed in 1996, while it was not significantly different among seeding dates when nitrogen was intensively applied as a top dressing in 1998. Tiller number at the maximum tillering stage and panicle number/m$^2$ were more, as seeding date was earlier in 1996, while it was not different in 1998. Filled grain rate and 1,000 grain weight was not different among the seeding dates. Milled rice yield was significantly decreased in the seeding before the middle of March, but in the seeding after late March, it was not varied when compared with the normal seeding date in 1996, while in 1998, there was no difference among seeding dates. From the above results, in consideration of seedling stand, weed occurance, rice growth and milled rice yield, the critical optimum early seeding time in the southern plain area may lie in early April. But it was suggested that when soil moisture is proper for seeding practices, seeding amount is increased and nitrogen is applied after plumule emergence of rice, milled rice yield may not be reduced in the seeding of middle or late March, compared with the seeding in April.l.
Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) was recognized as a potential source of forage. But the domestic cultivation techniques are not set standards yet. So we tested the basic culture techniques during 2012~2013 for getting a high yield and good grade forage production system. The best seeding method for mechanized planting (corn planter used) was hill seeding with $20{\times}20cm$ seeding distance. When we treated hill seeding with $20{\times}20cm$, the yield what we could get was 13,641 kg/10a and it was 32% more than that of conventional practice hill seeding with $20{\times}30cm$ seeding distance. The proper seeding date for getting high yield was May 1. In May 1, the yield per 10a was reached 13,423 kg, and it was 30% more than that of seeding at May 30. More over the crude protein content which was important factor for determinating forage nutritive value was 12.7% and it was higher 1.8% (relatively 16.5% high) than that of May 30 seeding. The most effective herbicide for kenaf was Fluazipof-p-butyl. It's herbicidal rate was 97% and phyto-toxicity was less than 5%. Regional adaptability for Jeollabuk-Do including Imsil Gun, Kochang Gun and Sunchang Gun were identified that the stable cultivation were possible in these area with average yield 12,400 kg/10a and it was about 1.7 times as compared to corn harvest.

Seven vegetables were planted in green houses to compare their yields and damages by insect pests based on three treatments, green music (GM), ultra sonic (US) and control. The vegetable yields of GM treatment were increased by an average of 17.81% than that of control for two years. There was a remarkable statistic difference in the yield between GM and respective controls such as radish, young radish, cucumber, spinach and Brassica oleracea var. acephala. There was no notable yield difference between US and controls for the semen vegetables within two years. The population densities of the insect pests in GM and US treatments were lower than controls. Only a few insect pests of some vegetables in GM and US treatments injured more seriously than in control.
A field experiment was conducted in Agronomy farm at an altitude of 1350 m. above sea level in a randomized complete block design with three replications and eight treatments on vegetable type soybean in 2005. The objective was to see the effect of vermicompost alone and in combination with Rhizobium inoculum and mineral fertilizers on the yield of vegetable soybean. The result showed higher number of nodules from the non inoculated plot, however, the nodules weight was highest from the inoculated plots. No significant difference was notice statistically on roots and shoots dry weight. Soybean grain was obtained highest (32.3%) over the non inoculated plot followed by vermicompost plus inoculated, however, there was non significant difference. There was a slight increment on grain and straw yield from the inoculated plots over the non inoculated.

In the 2nd year study of a 5 year project to evaluate the soil quality and develop the best management practices for mountaineous soils, 11 runoff plots were treated and monitored with respect to physical property of the soil, runoff and sediment discharge, and the following results were obtained. 1. Bulk density and porosity did not show any siginificant difference between experimental treatments. 2. Runoff was basically dependent on the soil's physical property and tillage. Up-and-down plots showed the highest runoff while contour plots the lowest runoff. 3. Sediment yield in the mountaineous soils was directly related to tillage and residue cover. Residue covered plots showed the lowest sediment yield and up-and-down plots the highest sediment yield. And it is recommended that the best management practices using till_age and residue cover for the mountaineous soils must be developed to protect soil quality and maintain agricultural productivity.

A simplified physiologically-based dynamic model, SIMRIW was selected for predicting the growth and yield of rice. The applicability of the model to the rice cultivars and weather conditions in the Republic of Korea was evaluated. Parameters of the model were calibrated using actual rice yields in Suweon region and an optimization scheme, Constrained Rosenbrock Algorithm. The simulated results from the calibrated model were in good agreement with the field data. The model with parameters calibrated for Suweon was applied to other five regions for the evaluation of transferability, but the simulated results fell short of satisfaction. However, the model is found to be applied to real-time prediction of the growth and yield of rice crop, which is believed to be useful for timely rice crop management, agricultural policy making, and optimal irrigation water management.
In this study, we aim to use big data resources and statistical analysis to obtain a reliable instruction to reach high-quality and high yield agricultural yields. In this regard, soil type data, raining and temperature data as well as wheat production in each year are collected for a specific region. Using statistical methodology, the acquired data was cleaned to remove incomplete and defective data. Afterwards, using several classification methods in machine learning we tried to distinguish between different factors and their influence on the final crop yields. Comparing the proposed models' prediction using statistical quantities correlation factor and mean squared error between predicted values of the crop yield and actual values the efficacy of machine learning methods is discussed. The results of the analysis show high accuracy of machine learning methods in the prediction of the crop yields. Moreover, it is indicated that the random forest (RF) classification approach provides best results among other classification methods utilized in this study.

Carnegie-Ames-Stanford Approach (CASA) model is one of the most quick, convenient and accurate models to estimate the NPP (Net Primary Productivity) of vegetation. The purposes of this study are (1) to examine the spatial and temporal patterns of vegetation NPP of the paddy field area in Korea from 2002 to 2012, and (2) to investigate how the rice productivity responded to inter-annual NPP variability, and (3) to estimate rice yield in Korea using CASA model applied to MOderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) products and solar radiation. MODIS products; MYD09 for NIR and SWIR bands, MYD11 for LST, MYD15 for FPAR, respectively from a NASA web site were used. Finally, (4) its applicability is to be reviewed. For those purposes, correlation coefficients (linear regression for monthly NPP and accumulated NPP with rice yield) were examined to evaluate the spatial and temporal patterns of the relations. As a result, the total accumulated NPP and Sep. NPP tend to have high correlation with rice yield. The rice yield in 2012 was estimated to be 526.93kg/10a by accumulated NPP and 520.32 kg/10a by Sep. NPP. RMSE were 9.46kg/10a and 12.93kg/10a, respectively, compared with the yield forecast of the National Statistical Office. This leads to the conclusion that NPP changes in the paddy field were well reflected rice yield in this study.

The influences of powdery mildew caused by Sphaerotheca fusca were assessed on cucumber to verify the economic injury level and yield response. Based on the relation of disease severity and yield response, economic threshold was determined by grading the disease severity of powdery mildew. Yield loss simulation due to damage of powdery mildew was conducted by defoliation of lower cucumber leaves in two seasons. The minimum number of leaves was 10 in spring season and 13 in autumn season which made no distinct difference on cucumber yield. The whole yields of cucumber was reduced as the disease severity was increased. Therefore occurrence of powdery mildew have a negative effect on cucumber yield. The regression equation between disease severity and yield loss showed Y=-57.237x+6143.1, $R^2=0.9628$. This equation suggests the disease severity of economic threshold is 17.6%, which is 3% reduction point of yield based on yield and economic relations. These results suggest that application of fungicide should be needed when 1 or 2 leaves of cucumber are infected by powdery mildew in the growing season.
The yield of Unkwangbyeo transplanted on May 10 was 596kg/10a in 2010. The rice yield decreased with delaying transplanting date. The head rice rate was 91.9% when transplanted in June 10, and the rate decreased as the transplanting got earlier. In 2011, the yield increased by 5~8% when transplanted on June 10 because of the increase of Ripened grain ratio and 1,000 grain weight. The yield, when transplanted in the distance of $30{\times}13cm$ with 5 plants, was higher than the other treatments. The yield of Oraebyeo, transplanted on June 10, decreased by 6% compared with transplanting on May 25, while the yield, transplanted in the distance of $30{\times}13cm$ with 5 plants, increased by 5% because of the increase in the number/$m^2$ of panicle and grain. The head rice rates of the two varieties increased by 5~7% and the Toyo palatability appeared to get improved when transplanted on June 10 possibly because of the effect of low ripening temperature by 0.9~$1.6^{\circ}C$ with delaying heading date from 9 to 12 days.
