The purpose of the present study is to set up an efficient optimum design method for the large-scale reinforced concrete cylindrical shell structures like intake tower of reservoir and to establish a solid foundation for the automatic optimum structural design combined with finite element analysis. The major design variables are the dimensions and steel areas of each member of the structures. The construction cost which is composed of the concrete, steel, and form work costs, respectively, is taken as the objective function. The constraint equations for the design of intake-tower are derived on the basis of the working stress design method. The corresponding design guides including the standard specification for concrete structures have been also employed in deraving the constraint conditions. The present nonlinear optimization problem is solved by SUMT method. The reinforced concrete intake-tower is decomposed into three major substructures. The optimization is then conducted for both the whole structure and the substructures. The following conclusions can be drawn from the present study. 1. The basis of automatic optimum design of reinforced concrete cylindrical shell structures which is combined with finite element analysis was established. 2. The efficient optimization algorithms which can execute the automatic optimum desigh of reinforced concrete intake-tower based on the working stress design method were developed. 3. Since the objective function and design variables were converged to their optimum values within the first or second iteration, the optImization algorithms developed in this study seem to be efficient and stable. 4. The difference in construction cost between the optimum designs with the substructures and with the entire structure was found to be small and thus the optimum design with the substructures,rnay conveniently be used in practical design. 5. The major active constraints of each structural member were found to be the tensile stress insteel for salb, the minimum lonitudinal steel ratio constraints for tower body and the shearing stress in concrete, tensile stress in steel and maximum eccentricityconstraints for footing, respectively. 6. The computer program develope in the present study can be effectively used even by an unexperienced designer for the optimum design of reinforced concrete intake-tower.

In this study, the optimum mix proportions of rain garden structure concrete were decided and the mechanical properties were evaluated. Experimental parameters were blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, recycled aggregates and natural jute fibers. The target compressive strength and chloride ion penetration were more than 24 MPa and less than 1000 coulombs, respectively. The response surface method was used for statistical optimization of experimental results. The optimal mixing ratios of the blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, recycled coarse aggregate and jute fiber volume fraction were determined 59.98 %, 8.74 %, 12.12 % and 0.2 %, respectively. The compressive strength, flexural strength and chloride ion penetration test results of optimum mix ratio showed that the 24.56 MPa, 3.88 MPa and 999.08 columbs, respectively.

Although crack on concrete exists from its early formation, crack requires attention as it affects stiffness of structure and can lead demolition of structure as it grows. Detecting cracks on concrete is needed to take action prior to performance degradation of structure, and deep learning can be utilized for it. In this study, transfer learning, one of the deep learning techniques, was used to detect the crack, as the amount of crack's image data was limited. Pre-trained Inception-v3 was applied as a base model for the transfer learning. Web scrapping was utilized to fetch images of concrete wall with or without crack from web. In the recognition of crack, image post-process including changing size or removing color were applied. In the visualization of crack, source images divided into 30px, 50px or 100px size were used as input data, and different numbers of input data per category were applied for each case. With the results of visualized crack image, false positive and false negative errors were examined. Highest accuracy for the recognizing crack was achieved when the source images were adjusted into 224px size under gray-scale. In visualization, the result using 50 data per category under 100px interval size showed the smallest error. With regard to the false positive error, the best result was obtained using 400 data per category, and regarding to the false negative error, the case using 50 data per category showed the best result.

The air-void is known to be one of the influencing factors for estimating long-term performance of asphalt concrete. Most of all, confirming air void or density of pavement layer is important for quality control of field compaction level of asphalt concrete pavement. In this study, a non-nuclear type non-destructive density gage (NDDG) was used to estimate compacted air-voids of asphalt pavement as a non-destructive test method. Asphalt concrete slab specimens were prepared using 6 types of asphalt mixes in laboratory (lab) for lab NDDG test. Four different base structure materials were used to find out if there were any differences due to the type of base structure materials. The actual air-voids and NDDG air-voids were measured from 6 asphalt concrete slabs. Four sections of field asphalt pavements were tested using the NDDG, and actual air voids were also measured from field cores taken from the site where the NDDG air-void was measured. From lab and field experimental tests, it was found that the air-voids obtained by NDDG were not the same as the actual air-voids measured from the asphalt concrete specimen. However, it was possible to estimate air voids based on the relationship obtained from regression analysis between actual and NDDG air voids. The predicted air-voids based on the NDDG air-voids obtained from 50mm depth were found to be reliable levels with $R^2{\fallingdotseq}0.9$. Therefore, it was concluded that the air-voids obtained from NDDG could be used to estimate actual air-voids in the field asphalt pavement with a relatively high coefficient of determination.

In concrete, the mater over aggregate is ever demanding each year in paralled with rapid development of Construction works from a couple of years ago. Want of most of them which is river gravel among aggregate has made us uneasy to get good gravel in quality. So far, we have counted on gravel, however, the time to turn the use of normal concrete into that of crushed concrete is closing at hand, I think. According to the results of study by Kaplan, Zeitman, Murdock, Hanada, Yamamodo, the shape of aggregate particle have a great effect on workability of concrete, as we know, is well known to the world. Crushed stone, particularly, is inconvenient to handle on account of jagged, angled particle form and rugged surface structure, give rise to inpediments in works, its unit water stands at about $15-20kg/m^3$, and w/c shows the increasing rate of approximately 5-10%, but it is unsuitable to use in terms of regidity. In order to research all of these, I have experimentalized and reviewed the physical character of aggregate and the regidity of concrete, in addition, its relative ratio of the elastic disposition as to gravel and crushed stone.

In recent years, the research and development about the new material proceeds rapidly and actively. In building industry, high strength concrete is of interest as a new material. Since the building structure becomes bigger, higher and more specialized, the demand of material and member with high strength expands greatly. Therefore in this experiment, cement complex with high strength was made using the condensed silica fume, a basic experiment was performed on strength property, and optimum-mixture-state was determined for manufacturing a high-strength concrete. Shear behaviour and fracture property of concrete beams with high strength were evaluated. On the whole, in spite of many researches, it is one of the difficult problems that shear fracture of concrete beams has not yet been clearly understood theoretically, and now the shear-design-standard forms in many countries are a formula based on experiment. In this study, the variable of shear behavior experiment was shear-reinforcement-ratio. By analyzing test results and comparing with computation value by ACI code, the basic data was offered on shear design of reinforced concrete beams with high strength. The effect of epoxy repair was also investigated for the beams with cracks due to flexural and shear loading.

The purpose of this study is to analyse deformation properties by carrying out of flexure experimentations after fabricating polymer concrete sandwich panels which are composed of the polymer concrete in facing and expanded polystyren in cores, and to provide the basic data necessary to design, fabricate and operate the structure using these polymer concrete sandwich panels The analysed result of this study is summarized as follows. 1. The result of experiment on flexural deflection indicated that the thicker the thickness of both cores and facing of the polymer concrete sandwich panels, the smaller the deflection but the larger the ultimate shear force. In addition, it was also shown that the thicker the thickness of these cores and facing, the smaller the increasing rate of the deflection with the increase of load. 2. The breaking shape of polymer concrete sandwich panels by experiment on flexure was different according to the thickness of facing. When the facing was 5mm in thickness, it was the flexure while it was the flexure and shear failure when the facing was 5mm in thickness. As a result, it seems that the thickness of the facing has a great effect on failure. 3. There were induced not only the related formula between load, deflection and deformation according to the thickness of cores and facing on the basis of the flexure experiment, but also formula between load, horizontal displacement, Then, it seems that it will be possible to estimate the above elements by using these related formulas.

Research on permeable pavement like asphalt and concrete pavement with porous structure has been increasing due to environmental and functional need such as reduction of run off and flood, and increase and purification of underwater resource. This study was performed to evaluate permeability, strengths and durability of permeable polymer concrete (PPC) using recycled aggregate that is obtained from waste concrete. Also, 6mm length of polypropylene fiber was used to increase toughness and interlocking between aggregate and aggregate surrounded by binder. In the test results, regardless of kinds of aggregates and fiber contents, the compressive strength and permeability coefficient of all types of PPC showed the higher than the criterion of porous concrete that is used in permeable pavement in Korea. Also, strengths of PPC with increase polypropylene fiber volume fraction showed slightly increased tendency due to increase binder with increase of fiber volume fraction. The weight reduction ratios for PPC after 300 cycles of freezing and thawing were in the range of 1.6~3.8 % and 2.2~5.6 %, respectively. The weight change ratio was very low regardless of the fiber volume fraction and aggregates. The weight reduction ratios of PPC with fiber and aggregate were in the range of 1.3~2.7 % and 2.2~3.2 % after 13 weeks and was very low regardless of the fiber volume fraction and aggregates.

The objective of the current study is to evaluate the effects depending on the types of reinforcing fibers being influential in view of mechanical properties and impact resistance of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HFRC) for applications to precast concrete structure. Hybrid fibers applied therefor were three types such as PP/MSF (polypropylene fiber+macro synthetic fiber), PVA/MAF (polyvinyl alcohol fiber+MSF) and JUTE/MSF (natural jute fiber+MSF), where the volume fraction of PP, PVA and natural jute was applied with 0.2 %, respectively, while based on 0.05 % volume fraction of MSF. The HFRC was tested for slump, compressive strength, flexural strength and impact resistance. The test result demonstrated that mixture of such hybrid fibers improve compressive strength, flexural strength and impact resistance of concrete. Moreover, it was found that HFRCs to which hydrophilic fibers, i.e. PVA/MSF and JUTE/MSF, were mixed show more improved features that HFRC to which non-hydrophilic fiber, i.e. PP/MSF was mixed. Meanwhile, the finding that PVA/MSF HFRC exhibited better performance than JUTE/MSF HFRC was attributed from the former having higher aspect ratio than that of the latter.
Concrete is the most commonly used structural materials, but in concrete construction, its self-weight represents a very large proportion of the total load on the structure, and there are clearly considerable advantages in reducing the density of concrete. This study was carried out to investigate the stress-strain properties of no-fines synthetic lightweight concrete with synthetic lightweight coarse aggregates. The used synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate were two types, one was expanded clay with grading 3~8mm, the other is pumice stone with grading 4.75~10mm. The results of this study were summarized as follows ; The static modulus of elasticity of the synthetic lightweight concrete was $1.8{\times}10^5kg/cm^2$ at type CE using the expanded clay and $1.6{\times}10^5kg/cm^2$ at type CL using the pumice stone. The dynamic modulus of elasticity was $1.9{\times}10^5kg/cm^2$(CE) and $2.0{\times}10^5kg/cm^2$(CL). The dynamic modulus of elasticity was 10~30% larger than that of the static modulus of elasticity. The load-time curves of synthetic lightweight concrete were shown approximately similar to each other type except for added foaming agent. The stress-strain curves in uniaxial compressive of synthetic lightweight concrete were similar to each other.
