Introduction to Simulation Activity for CMDPS Evaluation Using Radiative Transfer Model

  • Satellite observed brightness temperature simulation using a radiative transfer model (here after, RTM) is useful for various fields, for example sensor design and channel selection by using theoretically calculated radiance data, development of satellite data processing algorithm and algorithm parameter determination before launch. This study is focused on elaborating the simulation procedure, and analyzing of difference between observed and modelled clear sky brightness temperatures. For the CMDPS (COMS Meteorological Data Processing System) development, the simulated clear sky brightness temperatures are used to determine whether the corresponding pixels are cloud-contaminated in cloud mask algorithm as a reference data. Also it provides important information for calibrating satellite observed radiances. Meanwhile, simulated brightness temperatures of COMS channels plan to be used for assessing the CMDPS performance test. For these applications, the RTM requires fast calculation and high accuracy. The simulated clear sky brightness temperatures are compared with those of MTSAT-1R observation to assess the model performance and the quality of the observation. The results show that there is good agreement in the ocean mostly, while in the land disagreement is partially found due to surface characteristics such as land surface temperature, surface vegetation, terrain effect, and so on.

  • The Korean Geostationary satellite (COMS) to fly in year 2009 will carry a meteorological sensor from which visible channel measurements will be available. We developed a method utilizing satellite-derived BRDFs for the solar channel calibration over the bright desert area. The 6S model has been incorporated to account for directional effects of the surface using MODIS-derived BRDF parameters within the spectral interval in interest. Simulated radiances over the desert targets were compared with MODIS and SeaWiFS measured spectral radiances in order to examine the feasibility of the developed calibration algorithm. We also simulated TOA radiance over ocean targets to verify the consistency and reliability of the result. It was shown that simulated 16-day averaged radiances are in good agreement with the satellite-measured radiances within about ${\pm}5%$ uncertainty range for the year 2005, suggesting that the developed algorithm can be used for calibrating the COMS visible channel within about 5% uncertainty level.

패널절단법 선체표면 패널생성을 위한 새로운 시도 (Panel Cutting Method a New Approach in Hull Surface Panel Generation)

  • In this paper a new hull-panel generation algorithm named 'Panel Cutting Method' was developed to solve the flow phenomena around a ship advancing on the free surface with a constant speed. In this algorithm the non-linearity of the free surface boundary conditions was taken into account using the iterative method and the raised panel was used at each iteration step. Numerical calculations were performed to investigate the validity of the developed algorithm using the series $60(C_B=0.60)$ hull The wave resistance coefficients, the wave patterns and the wave heights were compared between the computed and the experimental results at Fn=0.25 and 0.316. The comparison showed good agreement between computation and experiment.

NSGA-II를 활용한 SWAT 모형의 검보정 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Automatic SWAT Calibration Algorithm Using NSGA-II Algorithm)

  • 본 연구는 다목적 유전자 알고리즘 Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II)를 활용하여 자동 검보정 알고리즘을 개발하고, 이를 준분포형 수문모형인 SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) 모형에 적용하여 평가하고자 한다. 집중형 모형과 달리, 분포형 모형은 유역 내 다양한 물리적 변수와 공간 이질성(spatial heterogeneity)을 표현하기 위한 많은 매개변수를 포함하고 있고, 최근에는 기후 변화와 장기 가뭄과 같은 이상 기후에 따른 물 부족, 수질 오염 및 녹조 현상 등을 고려하기 위해 매개변수의 시간적인 변동성을 고려하기 위한 연구도 수행되고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서 개발한 다목적 알고리즘은 다양한 매개변수의 시공간적 특성을 고려할 수 있도록 작성되었으며, Python으로 개발하여 타 모형으로의 확장성 및 범용성을 고려하였다. SWAT 모형의 유출 해석은 결정계수(Coefficient of determination, $R^2$), RMSE(Root mean square error), 모형 효율성 계수(Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency, NSE) 및 IOA(Index of agreement) 등을 활용해 기존 연구 결과와 비교분석할 수 있도록 하였으며, 사용자의 선택에 따라 다른 목적함수 또한 활용할 수 있도록 하였다. NSGA-II를 활용한 SWAT 모형의 유출 해석은 다목적 함수를 고려함에 따라 실측값과 높은 상관성을 보여줄 것으로 판단되며, 이상 기후 기간 설정에 따른 유동적인 매개변수 변화를 적용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Zero-knowledge proof algorithm for Data Privacy

  • As pass the three revised bills, the Personal Information Protection Act was revised to have a larger application for personal information. For an industrial development through an efficient and secure usage of personal information, there is a need to revise the existing anonymity processing method. This paper modifies the Zero Knowledge Proofs algorithm among the anonymity processing methods to modify the anonymity process calculations by taking into account the reliability of the used service company. More detail, the formula of ZKP (Zero Knowledge Proof) used by ZK-SNAKE is used to modify the personal information for pseudonymization processing. The core function of the proposed algorithm is the addition of user variables and adjustment of the difficulty level according to the reliability of the data user organization and the scope of use. Through Setup_p, the additional variable γ can be selectively applied according to the reliability of the user institution, and the degree of agreement of Witness is adjusted according to the reliability of the institution entered through Prove_p. The difficulty of the verification process is adjusted by considering the reliability of the institution entered through Verify_p. SimProve, a simulator, also refers to the scope of use and the reliability of the input authority. With this suggestion, it is possible to increase reliability and security of anonymity processing and distribution of personal information.

A hybrid algorithm for the synthesis of computer-generated holograms

  • A new approach to reduce the computation time of genetic algorithm (GA) for making binary phase holograms is described. Synthesized holograms having diffraction efficiency of 75.8% and uniformity of 5.8% are proven in computer simulation and experimentally demonstrated. Recently, computer-generated holograms (CGHs) having high diffraction efficiency and flexibility of design have been widely developed in many applications such as optical information processing, optical computing, optical interconnection, etc. Among proposed optimization methods, GA has become popular due to its capability of reaching nearly global. However, there exits a drawback to consider when we use the genetic algorithm. It is the large amount of computation time to construct desired holograms. One of the major reasons that the GA' s operation may be time intensive results from the expense of computing the cost function that must Fourier transform the parameters encoded on the hologram into the fitness value. In trying to remedy this drawback, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been put forward, allowing CGHs to be created easily and quickly (1), but the quality of reconstructed images is not high enough to use in applications of high preciseness. For that, we are in attempt to find a new approach of combiningthe good properties and performance of both the GA and ANN to make CGHs of high diffraction efficiency in a short time. The optimization of CGH using the genetic algorithm is merely a process of iteration, including selection, crossover, and mutation operators [2]. It is worth noting that the evaluation of the cost function with the aim of selecting better holograms plays an important role in the implementation of the GA. However, this evaluation process wastes much time for Fourier transforming the encoded parameters on the hologram into the value to be solved. Depending on the speed of computer, this process can even last up to ten minutes. It will be more effective if instead of merely generating random holograms in the initial process, a set of approximately desired holograms is employed. By doing so, the initial population will contain less trial holograms equivalent to the reduction of the computation time of GA's. Accordingly, a hybrid algorithm that utilizes a trained neural network to initiate the GA's procedure is proposed. Consequently, the initial population contains less random holograms and is compensated by approximately desired holograms. Figure 1 is the flowchart of the hybrid algorithm in comparison with the classical GA. The procedure of synthesizing a hologram on computer is divided into two steps. First the simulation of holograms based on ANN method [1] to acquire approximately desired holograms is carried. With a teaching data set of 9 characters obtained from the classical GA, the number of layer is 3, the number of hidden node is 100, learning rate is 0.3, and momentum is 0.5, the artificial neural network trained enables us to attain the approximately desired holograms, which are fairly good agreement with what we suggested in the theory. The second step, effect of several parameters on the operation of the hybrid algorithm is investigated. In principle, the operation of the hybrid algorithm and GA are the same except the modification of the initial step. Hence, the verified results in Ref [2] of the parameters such as the probability of crossover and mutation, the tournament size, and the crossover block size are remained unchanged, beside of the reduced population size. The reconstructed image of 76.4% diffraction efficiency and 5.4% uniformity is achieved when the population size is 30, the iteration number is 2000, the probability of crossover is 0.75, and the probability of mutation is 0.001. A comparison between the hybrid algorithm and GA in term of diffraction efficiency and computation time is also evaluated as shown in Fig. 2. With a 66.7% reduction in computation time and a 2% increase in diffraction efficiency compared to the GA method, the hybrid algorithm demonstrates its efficient performance. In the optical experiment, the phase holograms were displayed on a programmable phase modulator (model XGA). Figures 3 are pictures of diffracted patterns of the letter "0" from the holograms generated using the hybrid algorithm. Diffraction efficiency of 75.8% and uniformity of 5.8% are measured. We see that the simulation and experiment results are fairly good agreement with each other. In this paper, Genetic Algorithm and Neural Network have been successfully combined in designing CGHs. This method gives a significant reduction in computation time compared to the GA method while still allowing holograms of high diffraction efficiency and uniformity to be achieved.   • 전력 수요가 증가함에 따라 전력용 변압기의 용량이 커지고, 따라서 변압기사고의 파급효과가 커지게 된다. 본 논문은 전력용 변압기의 절연 열화에 의한 사고를 예방진단하기 위한 부분방전의 초음파 측정 기술을 응용하여, 초음파-초음파 측정법에 대한 부분방전점의 위치검출법을 연구하였다. 정확도를 높이기 위해 상호상관함수를 이용할 것을 제안하였으며 모의변압기에서 실험한 결과 만족할 만한 결과를 얻었다.

EVALUATION OF MARINE SURFACE WINDS OBSERVED BY ACTIVE AND PASSIVE MICROWAVE SENSORS ON ADEOS-II

  • Marine surface winds observed by two microwave sensors, SeaWinds and Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR), on the Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-II (ADEOS-II) are evaluated by comparison with off-shore moored buoy observations. The wind speed and direction observed by SeaWinds are in good agreement with buoy data with root-mean-squared (rms) differences of approximately 1 m $s^{-1}$ and $20^{\circ}$, respectively. No systematic biases depending on wind speed or cross-track wind vector cell location are discernible. The effects of oceanographic and atmospheric environments on the scatterometry are negligible. The wind speed observed by AMSR also exhibited reasonable agreement with the buoy data in general with rms difference of 1.2 m $s^{-1}$. Systematic bias which was observed in earlier versions of the AMSR winds has been removed by algorithm refinements. Intercomparison of wind speeds globally observed by SeaWinds and AMSR on the same orbits also shows good agreements. Global wind speed histograms of the SeaWinds data and European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) analyses agree precisely with each other, while that of the AMSR wind shows slight deviation from them.

Shear Capacity of Reinforced Concrete Beams Using Neural Network

  • Optimum multi-layered feed-forward neural network (NN) models using a resilient back-propagation algorithm and early stopping technique are built to predict the shear capacity of reinforced concrete deep and slender beams. The input layer neurons represent geometrical and material properties of reinforced concrete beams and the output layer produces the beam shear capacity. Training, validation and testing of the developed neural network have been achieved using 50%, 25%, and 25%, respectively, of a comprehensive database compiled from 631 deep and 549 slender beam specimens. The predictions obtained from the developed neural network models are in much better agreement with test results than those determined from shear provisions of different codes, such as KBCS, ACI 318-05, and EC2. The mean and standard deviation of the ratio between predicted using the neural network models and measured shear capacities are 1.02 and 0.18, respectively, for deep beams, and 1.04 and 0.17, respectively, for slender beams. In addition, the influence of different parameters on the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams predicted by the developed neural network shows consistent agreement with those experimentally observed.

NOAA/AVHRR 자료를 이용한 일 최고기온 추정에 관한 연구 (Estimation of daily maximum air temperature using NOAA/AVHRR data)

  • This study estimated surface temperature by using split-window technique and NOAA/AVHRR data was used. For surface monitoring, cloud masking procedure was carried out using threshold algorithm. The daily maximum air temperature is estimated by multiple regression method using independent variables such as satellite-derived surface temperature, EDD, and latitude. When the EDD data added, the highest correlation shown. This indicates that EDD data is the necessary element for estimation of the daily maximum air temperature. We derived correlation and experience equation by three approaching method to estimate daily maximum air temperature. 1) non-considering landcover method as season, 2) considering landcover method as season, and 3) just method as landcover. The last approaching method shows the highest correlation. So cross-validation procedure was used in third method for validation of the estimated value. For all landcover type 5, the results using the cross-validation procedure show reasonable agreement with measured values(slope=0.97, intercept=-0.30, R$^2$=0.84, RMSE=4.24$^{\circ}C$). Also, for all landcover type 7, the results using the cross-validation procedure show reasonable agreement with measured values(slope=0.993, Intercept=0.062, R$^2$=0.84, RMSE=4.43$^{\circ}C$).
