Taiwan has experienced rapid economic growth during the past two decades. As a result, the demand for health care in Taiwan has increased rapidly. To meet the rising demand, Taiwan implemented a National Health Insurance (NHI) program on March 1, 1995. This program now covers more than 96 percent of Taiwan's citizens. Implementation of the NHI in 1995 represents fulfillment of a primary social and health policy goals of Taiwan. The goals of the NHI program is to eliminate financial barriers of health care for the citizens, to improve the quality of care. To achieve these goals, the NHI was designed on the following principles: 1. All Taiwan citizens are compul내교 joined the NHI program by law; 2. The NHI program provides comprehensive services; 3. The NHI is run by one single govt' subsidy; 5. The NHI adopt fee-for-services scheme to pay medical expenses and copayment to avoid abouse of medical services. However, the scheme did not bring in the efficient use of health care C. National Health Council, 1986 NARC, Aging in Japan, International Publication Series 1991;2 Kahana EF. Kiyak HA. Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationship between ego resilience, family resilience, and the perception of successful aging in nursing students; additionally, specific factors relating to the perception of successful aging were identified. Methods: The participants comprised 154 nursing students. Data were collected through the administration of self-reported questionnaires. Data analysis was then performed utilizing a t-test, an ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and a multiple regression analysis. Results: Family resilience differed significantly based on the type of residence (p=.020) (i.e., living with grandparents (p=.048)). Perception of successful aging differed significantly based on grade (p<.001). The perception of successful aging showed a positive correlation relative to mode of communication and organizational pattern. The mode of communication accounted for 4.7% of perception of successful aging. Conclusion: The significance of the study on the importance of mode of communication was confirmed by identifying the effects of the perception of successful aging. Nursing students may actively cope with crises through communication; thus, successfully recognizing aging in order to lead a healthy life. Furthermore, having a high perception of successful aging while treating an increasing number of elderly patients at the clinical practice is believed to have a positive effect on patient care.
This study explored the elements, types, and determining factors of successful aging for the Korean elderly. In order to examine the expectations of the Korean elderly, a sample of 377 elderly aged 65 and over living in Seoul and Kyunggi areas was selected and interviewed. The elements of successful aging that the Korean elderly pointed out in the interviews were: 'peaceful and comfortable life', 'self-maintenance,' 'secure social support,' and 'ostentation.' The expected elements of successful aging were further classified into three types of successful aging: 'idealized expectation.' 'self-centered expectation,' 'balanced self-other expectation.' The elderly groups sorted by the types exhibited significant differences in terms of demographic characteristics, self-evaluated economic status, and self-evaluated health status. The variables that affected the expectations were age, level of education, marital status, gender, and self-evaluated health condition. However, further analysis revealed that the factors that affected the expectation for successful aging were different for male and female elderly. The results suggest that the successful aging of Korean elderly should be understood in the context of Korean society and culture. The results could be used to better understand varied and unique life of Korean elderly, as well as in establishing a basis of intervention that meets the specific demands of the Korean elderly.

Purpose: This study is to verify and analyze the influencing factors of successful aging with social support, self-efficacy, community environment and subjective health status on middle and old aged men. Methods: The survey was performed to the men between the ages of 50 and 79 in Seoul and Kyunggi province, Korea. 144 questionnaires were collected and analyzed by SPSS 18.0 program. Stepwise multiple regression was used to identify significant predictors of successful aging. Results: The most influencing factor for successful aging was social support, the second was self-efficacy, the third and the fourth was community environment and subjective health status. This regression model explained 56.7% of the variance in successful aging. Conclusion: The result shows that these variables should be considered in intervention and program of successful aging for middle and old aged men. It can be an important consideration in enhancing promoting care and welfare for the successful aging.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the aging anxiety, factors of successful aging, and preparation for aging in early and late middle-aged people. Methods: The study subjects were 140 middle-aged people aged from 40 to 59. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire from August 16 to September 30, 2013. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test and Pearson correlation coefficient using IBM SPSS 21.0 program. Results: Between early and late middle age, there were statistically significant differences in the subcategories of aging anxiety: fear of loss (t=2.93, p=.004), fear of old people (t=-2.33, p=.021), physical appearance (t=2.32, p=.022), and psychological concerns (t=2.04, p=.043). A statistically significant difference was found between two groups in one subscale of preparation for aging: physical preparation (t=-2.02, p=.045). In early midlife, significant associations were observed between preparation for aging and both aging anxiety (r=.56, p<.001) and factors of successful aging (r=.54, p<.001). In late midlife, preparation for aging and factors of successful aging showed positive correlation (r=.50, p<.001) Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that programs for successful transition to old age in middle-aged people should consider their aging anxiety level and preparation for aging at their stage of life.
As the life-expectancy is ever-increasing, and the proportion of the elderly population is growing steadily in every society of the world, it is ever more important to establish what factors allow certain elderly people to age successfully and remain relatively independent while others grow old less successfully and require extensive intervention. However, there is no consensus yet as to what successful aging means. Researchers have defined successful aging in a variety of ways. This study attempted to define the concept of successful aging and to clarify some dimensions of it through literature review. Previous approaches of studying successful aging and related themes were examined. Early perspectives including activity, disengagement, and continuity theories, Selective Optimization with Compensation (SOC) model by Baltes and Baltes, three different conceptions of successful aging, that is, psychological well-being, physical health, and wisdom, and MacArthur research on successful aging have been reviewed for this study. The definition derived from the review is: Keeping up continuous developmental processes to achieve wisdom or ego-integrity, without suffering any major disabilities in either physical or mental functioning, while maintaining psychological well-being and employing SOC strategies, and participating in positive relationships with significant others. The dimensions of successful aging are 1) personal resources, including physical health, cognitive competences, self esteem, and social support 2) adaptation process of SOC, and 3) psychological aspects, including psychological well-being and wisdom.

This study aimed to examine climacteric symptoms, health promoting behaviors, aging anxiety in middle-aged women and determine whether these variables influence aging anxiety. The subjects were 228 middle-aged women. SPSS 27.0 was used to perform t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The average age of the participants was 53.25 years old. Climacteric symptoms (r=.552, p<.001), health promoting behaviors (r=-.290, p<.001) were significantly correlated with aging anxiety. The participants' perception of their health status (β=-.132, p<.001), climacteric symptoms (β=.464, p=.016), and health promoting behaviors (β=-.146, p=.005) were significant predictors of aging anxiety, and the explanatory power of these variables was 33.7.0%. This study reveals the necessity that health promotion programs should be provided, taking into consideration personal perceptions of menopausal symptoms and health.

Objectives This study investigated the relationship between exercise and health factors including vaso-aging degree, stress index, stress resistance, fatigue and activity of autonomic nerve system etc. Methods The subjects were 20,509 persons who had received health examination by Korean Medicine and submitted questionnaires about exercise history, for 8 months from March to November in 2011. The vaso-aging degree were measured by APG (Accelerated Photoplethysmograph). The stress index and resistance, fatigue and activity of autonomic nerve system were measured by HRV (Heart Rate Variability). We analyzed the relationship between exercise and various variables by chi-square test with SPSS ver. 19.0. Results Regarding the relationship between exercise and vaso-aging degree, stress index, stress resistance, fatigue and activity of autonomic nerve system, there were significant differences(p<0.05). Conculsions This study suggests that vaso-aging degree, stress index, stress resistance, fatigue and activity of autonomic nerve system are affected by exercise.
This is a correlational study to investigate the degree of expectation regarding aging, depression and health promotion lifestyle and to identify the factors influencing health promotion lifestyle among health checkup examinee. The subjects of the study were 143 health checkup examinee who visited the M medical center located in G Metropolitan city. Data were collected from July 5 to 21, 2016 using the structured questionnaire of self-report form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression. As a result, health promoting lifestyle were correlated with expectation regarding aging positively, and with depression negatively. The factors influencing the health promotion lifestyle were education level, perceived health status, time to move to health care facilities, expectation regarding aging, and depression. With controlled general characteristics, the level of health promotion lifestyle was better explained by the addition of the independent variables of expectation regarding aging, and depression, and the explanatory power of the final model was calculated as 27.0%. Therefore, in order to improve health-promoting lifestyle, it is necessary to consider cognitive factors (knowledge, expectation regarding aging) and psychological factor (depression) besides physical approach.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of care stress for older patients, self-perceptions of aging, and anxiety about aging on preparation for retirement in clinical nurses. Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study in which participants were 222 nurses who had at least six months of work experience and were involved in caring for older patients in the last six months at the work site. Data were collected from August to September, 2020 using an online survey questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. Results: The mean level of preparation for retirement in the participants was moderate (3.21 out of 5 points). Among the sub-domains of preparation for retirement, financial preparation had the lowest score. Self-perceptions of aging and aging anxiety were significant predictors for retirement preparation in nurses, accounting for 16% of the variable's total variance. Conclusion: A greater level of preparation for retirement was associated with a positive perception of aging and a decreased level of aging anxiety in the clinical nurses. Further research should focus on exploration of specific determinants of financial preparation for retirement and development of intervention strategies for improving preparation for retirement in the nursing workforce.
