  • In this paper, we present the results of the numerical analysis employing CONWEP, LS-DYNA FSI(Fluid Structure Interaction), AUTODYN FSI, LS-DYNA ALE(Arbitrary Lagrange Eulerian) and combination of CONWEP and LS-DYNA ALE for blast door fracture and wave propagation through the tunnel by the external explosion. We compared the numerical analysis results with the subscale test data and selected combination of CONWEP and LS-DYNA ALE method as adequate data generation method for the FRM(Fast Running Model) software development. It is expected to save much time and costs by using the numerical simulation data for the various test conditions.

  • It has been tested for SW reliability in order to prevent the SW error during the development of weapons systems. According to a recent report, defects such as memory leak, buffer overflow, and null deference occur usually in the development stage, but also in the mass production stage. Although it is intended to enhance the SW test and evaluation to prevent SW failures in the development stage, the non-functional problems like syntax errors are not completely revised due to the limitation of the schedule and costs. In addition, SW failure rate are usually fluctuated by the operational environment through SW upgrade in contrast with HW. In this paper, we propose a method to increase SW reliability in the mass production stage of Korean weapon systems.

  • This study investigates the impact of corporate governance (defined as companies' ownership structure and board of directors' characteristics) on cash holdings in the context of Oman. This study leverages a quantitative panel pooled regression on a dataset of Omani non-financial firms from 2009-2015. The findings of this study are generally in line with the predictions of Agency Theory and Mentoring and Busyness Hypotheses. The analysis demonstrates that a large stockholder size has a significant positive relationship with cash holding. Meanwhile, a positive (but insignificant) relationship was also found between institutional ownership and cash holding. Furthermore, state ownership was found to exhibit a significant negative relationship with cash holding. In terms of the board of directors' traits, this study's findings suggest that board sizes have a positive (but insignificant) relationship with cash holding. Furthermore, busy and independent boards were found to have a significant positive relationship with cash holding. The above findings suggest that boards with such traits are less effective in providing oversight on managers' actions, which would then increase Omani non-financial firms' cash holdings.

  • Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) for highway projects is known as an effective analytical technique that uses economic principles to evaluate long-term alternative investment options, especially for comparing the values of alternative pavement design structures and construction strategies. In the Unites States, the 2012 Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) amended the United States Code to mandate that the United States Government Accountability Office (GOA) conducts a study of the best practices for calculating life-cycle costs and benefits for the federally funded highway projects in 2013. The RealCost 2.5CA program was developed and adapted as an official LCCA tool to comply with regulatory requirements for California state highway projects in 2013. Utilization of this California-customized LCCA software helps Caltrans to achieve substantial economic benefits (agency cost and road user cost savings) for highway projects. Proper implementation of LCCA for roadway construction and rehabilitation would deliver noticeable savings of agency's roadway maintenance cost especially in developing counties where financial difficulties exist.

  • This study estimated and analyzed the incremental profits to compare the imported buff-tailed bumblebees, Bombus terrestris, and their pollination alternatives. A result of the analysis showed that the incremental profit, which is defined as the sales revenue minus the common production cost, was higher when using pollinator insects than when using the artificial pollination and that the incremental costs were lower when using domestic bumblebees or artificial pollination than when using imported bumblebees or honeybees. The incremental profits of each alternative were 46,801 million won for imported bumblebees, 47,170 million won for domestic bumblebees, 46,975 million won for honeybees, and 29,839 million won for artificial pollination. The incremental profit means the accounting profit that can be realized from each alternative. However, not all of the accounting profits can be attributed to pollen-mediated alternatives since they include potential costs such as imputed rent or normal profits. Considering the opportunity costs, which are the potential costs, it appears that the alternative of using imported bumblebees can lead to an economic loss. It means that fruit and vegetable farmers can expect additional economic profits if they choose other alternatives instead of using imported bumblebees.

  • Quality Assurance Method of Defense Logistics Agency, U. S. A., was changed from Contract Quality Assurance Program to In-Plant Quality Evaluation in May, 1990. IQUE focuses on working with contractor in spirit of team work to measure and continuously improve processes and resulting product quality. The goals are to achieve customer satisfaction, improved product quality, and a reduction in the costs of items and ownership. It is suggested to adopt and apply the IQUE method to the effective accomplishment of Korean aircraft projects.

  • Virtually every state in US has adopted laws and regulations that mandate the generic substitution of brand-named prescription drugs in order to reduce sky-rocketing drug costs. In the late 1970s, many state governments began to recognize the need of generic substitution and requested Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to consult with this issue. FDA did consult which drugs were interchangeable each other based upon the available scientific and experimental evidences given to the agency along with New Drug Application (NDA) and Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA). • The demands for additional functionalities and improvements in performance of software increase over time. In particular, increases in software complexity and requirements for quality control attributed to continued maintenance lead to the deterioration of software quality and raises in software life cycle costs. In order to prevent this, software operators have to conduct timely redevelopment of the software. However, the scope of previous studies on timely redevelopment of software is limited to enterprises. We, in this study, suggest a model to derive the optimal cycle for the redevelopment of governmental agency software using Renewal process and discuss its correlation with previous studies.

  • Purpose: A main purpose is to increase the operational rate and reduce operating maintenance costs by Improving the durability of Blower of Military Armored Vehicle and Self-propelled Artillery. As a result, it is expected to improve the service quality of customers. Methods: After analyzing the cause of the stop of the blower, the improvement plans were established and the effectiveness of each improvement plans were verified by testing. Results: Mechanical, electrical and environmental factors affecting brush wear were reviewed, but it was difficult to specify the cause, which necessitated a review of the application of the BLDC motor. Conclusion: After applying the BLDC motor to the blower, tests proved that the existing blower can be replaced. It is expected that this study will help improve the durability life of similar equipment that is applied with Brushed DC motors as well as blowers.
