Changes in the human voice occur between infancy and old age and reflect a myriad of biological changes that influence the size, shape, and physical properties of the larynx. The human larynx is located near the base of the neck and attached inferiorly to the trachea and opens superiorly into the pharynx. The larynx by the third month of fetal life has the same features recognizable at birth. The fundamental frequency of vocal fold vibration generally becomes higher in early age, lower in middle age, and higher in old age. These decreases in Fo undoubtedly result from a combination of factors, consisting of modest increase in length and mass of the muscle and connective tissues of the vocal fold. But the level of the larynx in the neck may be closely connected with Fo directly, high larynx in related with high pitch and low larynx with low pitch. The purpose of this study is to determine the developmental level difference from child to adult larynx using conventional radiography, and the change of speaking fundamental frequency from second decade to sixth decade.
Human activities have been putting a great burden on the earth, leading to many serious problems, such as lack of resources, ecological degradation and air degradation. Although many countries have recognised this circumstance and have developed some sustainable development strategies, the earth still needs research on sustainability in different views and various industries. The nursing industry has grown with the ageing of the global population in recent years, and professional nursing institutions could relieve structural deterioration caused by the ageing population in family, social, economic and cultural. Hence, exploring the key criteria of organisational sustainability in the nursing industry is of the utmost priority. This paper puts forward an evaluation framework to identify the key criteria of organisational sustainability. After connections with nursing homes A and B in China, the author adopts literature research to confirm the criteria system which is based on triple bottom line, utilises analytical network process method to design the network hierarchy analysis model and importance comparison questionnaires to collect experts' first-hand data, and uses technical software - Super Decisions to integrate data and obtain final results. The results recommend three top-ranked criteria in the entire system, eco-recruitment, eco-procurement and corporate social responsibility are discussed with some professional suggestions in the end. The limitations are also extended in the last chapter to provide future research perspectives.

An increase in the proportion of Korean population in older age is much faster than the rest of the world. Along with rise of nuclear family due to rapid industrialization, informatization and materialization, ageing, on current situation in Korea that a reality of being diminished consciousness involving the sense of filial piety, and of respect or honor for the elders, does mean that such topics in ageing have become sociocultural issues that a nation should get more deeply involved in caring later life of the elderly population in an official and obligatory manner. Under this circumstance, an exhibition space in the hall intended for experiencing the later life of the elderly will surely play the role of locomotive in the respect of education to understand aging adults, and to promote development of health and welfare industry, especially for older population, also in creating and developing a positive and desirable culture and environment. To implement design project concerned with the space for the elderly population in a more careful and effective manner, the features of the Old Age Experience Hall that will satisfy the requirements thereof and the space compositions as well as characteristics of three exhibition halls having already been operated were analyzed examining closely the current facing issues in this aging society and also investigating the aging process related to physical functions of older adults. Based on those analyses, this study was aimed to prepare an efficient and systematic theoretical foundation for planning space composition of the Old Age Experience Hall further having extracted basic directions for design from, which should be meticulously considered and reflected so as to make the Old Age Experience Hall function properly.
This study uses [the instrument of ageing anxiety] in order to find if a negative prejudice against the old affects the attitude toward sex of the aged. The result shows no significant relation between ageing anxiety and the knowledge of and attitude toward sex of the aged. However, it does show that the higher the ageing anxiety is, the lower the knowledge of sex and the more restrictive the attitude toward it. The knowledge of and attitude toward sex of the aged shows meaninggul changes after education. Nursing students who were educated come to have more knowledge about and are more open to it. This result supports the preposition of this study. As society grows older the endeavour to guarantee a high-quality life for the old is necessary and the old should be regarded as an entity which has its own characteristic desires. Especially for the old to enjoy a good life as a sexual being, the mystical barriers about sex and old age ought to be removed. In the future the old themselves may maintain sexual desires regardless of age and society will be required to correct its prejudice against the old having sex. Particularly nursing students, as an effort to provide the old with overall care, should examine the elderly's sexual desires in a physical, psychological, and social context and consider the normal sexual changes occuring during the aging process and finally integrate this information into their nursing plans. In order to fulfill this role successfully they should overcome their own prejudice and educate themselves about this particular problem. As the proportion of the old becomes bigger and the concern about the quality of their life grows, sex among the old will become more important in the nursing field. By putting an educational mediation programme into operation with nursing students and estimating the effect, this study supplies the foundation to activate new educational programmes. In short it tells us that education can be a practical method to confront the myth and conventions concerning sex among the aged.

This paper proposes a modified GA whose individuals have their own ages. Thus, a chromosome will die only when the age becomes zero, as a result, the population size of this method increases according to the generations. This helps a GA to preserve the good characteristics of a few chromosomes during several generations if the ages are evaluated with fitness values. As a result, the performance of the method is better than that of existing ones. A multi-modal function optimization problem is employed to simulate the performance of this method. To show the effective:~esso f ageing paradigm, three ageing evaluation methods are introduced. A paper whose itlea is similar to that of ours have been published in a conference. We also experimented a method that showed the best performance in the paper. Original simple GA was also experimented and the performance is compared with others. However, the perforniance of the previous method shows worse than that of our methods in some aspects because the previous method didn't take the fitness value into account in the selection process.
To investigate the changes of physicochemical properties of leaf tobacco during storage, cured leaves (both flue-cured(KF109) and burley(Burley 21) : 4 grades of leaves) were stored under the natural warehouse condition(room temperature) and processed leaves(both Rue-cured(NC82) and burly(Burley 21) : 6 grades of leaves) were stored at storerooms in tobacco processing plants(flue-cured Cheongju plant ; 2nd, 4th and 5th floor, burley : Kwangju plant ; 2nd floor, Chonju plant : 3rd and 5th floor). Tobacco leaves were sampled and analyzed every 3 months. Total sugar content of flue-cured leaf decreased slightly and the redness degree of leaf increased after 15 months' storage under the natural warehouse conditions. The pH of cured leaves were lowered both flue-cured and burley, and the decreasing rate of pH was large in flue-cured(0.24) as compared with burley(0.14). There was no significant differences of physicochemical properties of processed leaf among storerooms during 15 months' storage. The decreasing rate of processed leaf pH was somewhat large in flue-cured(0.26) as compared with burly (0.20), and in thick leaves as compared with thin leaves. The redness degree of flue-cured leaf increased slightly, while the degree of lightness and yellowness lowered slightly during storage. The lightness degree of burley leaf lowered slightly, too. The ageing process of cured leaf was similar to that of processed leaf, it is considered that the passing days after curing will be more reasonable than the passing days after processing for the establishment of proper ageing period.
This article presents strengths of Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing(CAPI) in social surveys with complicated questionnaires, from examples of a pilot and the first year surveys of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing(KLoSA). This study focuses on how to improve the quality of data by using CAPI and finds five strengths among others. First of all, CAPI can contribute to reducing response errors by structuring the logic and path of questionnaires, setting a response range, and maintaining response consistency. Second, CAPI enhances convenience of interviewing by allowing customized questions and automatic calculation and scoring. It also allows the 'help' function. Third, its random arrangement of questions prevents response order effect and/or questions order effect. Fourth, CAPI can raise the response rate by reducing item non-responses. Fifth, it makes it easy monitoring interviewing, thus helps supervising interviewers and modifying questionnaires when necessary. These merits of CAPI contribute to reducing possible errors in the process of interviewing, therefore improve the data quality.

We report on the development of a new technology for the fabrication of Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System (MEMS) strain sensors to realize a novel type of crackmeter for health monitoring of ageing civil infrastructures. The fabrication of micromachined silicon MEMS sensors based on a Silicon On Insulator (SOI) technology, designed according to a Double Ended Tuning Fork (DETF) geometry is presented, using a novel process which includes a gap narrowing procedure suitable to fabricate sensors with low motional resistance. In order to employ these sensors for crack monitoring, techniques suited for bonding the MEMS sensors on a steel surface ensuring good strain transfer from steel to silicon and a packaging technique for the bonded sensors are proposed, conceived for realizing a low-power crackmeter for ageing infrastructure monitoring. Moreover, the design of a possible crackmeter geometry suited for detection of crack contraction and expansion with a resolution of $10{\mu}m$ and very low power consumption requirements (potentially suitable for wireless operation) is presented. In these sensors, the small crackmeter range for the first field use is related to long-term observation on existing cracks in underground tunnel test sections.
Bobitang(BBT) is one of the most important prescription that has been used in oriental medicine(dongyibogam) for recovering spleen condition. The study was done to evaluate effects of BBT water extract on the spleen lipid peroxide content and metabolic enzyme system changes. After pretreatment of BBT I (100mg/kg), BBT II(250mg/kg), BBT III(350mg/kg), BBT IV(500mg/kg) for 1 week, lipid peroxide content and metabolic enzyme system changes of the spleen was measured in 8 months rats. The results were obtained as follows : 1. The content of spleen lipid peroxide was significantly decreased in all experimental groups as compared with control, and best in BBT III IV treated groups. 2. The activity of spleen superoxide generation was significantly decreased in all experimental groups as compared with control, and best in BBT IV III treated groups. 3. The activity of cytochrome P-450 and aminopyrine demethylase wasn't significant change. 4. The activity of aniline hydroxylase was significantly decreased in BBT IV II treated groups, xanthine oxidase was significantly decreased in all experimental groups, aldehyde oxidase was significantly decreased in BBT IV treated group as compared with control. 5. The activity of antioxidant enzymes as superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase was significantly increased in all experimental groups as compared with control. 6. The activity of glutathion S-transferase was significantly increased in all experimental groups, the concentration of spleen glutathione was significantly increased in BBT IV treated group as compared with control. 7. The activity of ${\gamma}$ -glutamylcystein synthetase was significantly increased in BBT III IV I treated groups as compared with control, the activity of glutathione reductase wasn't significant change. From the above results, BBT is cosidered to have effect of remove peroxide content and free radical that was made during ageing process. It is expected that treatment of BBT can be applied in future clinical study of delaying the ageing process.
Fibrosis is characterized by excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix components. The fibrotic process ultimately leads to organ dysfunction and failure in chronic inflammatory and metabolic diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis, advanced kidney disease, and liver cirrhosis. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a common form of progressive and chronic interstitial lung disease of unknown etiology. Pathophysiologically, the parenchyma of the lung alveoli, interstitium, and capillary endothelium becomes scarred and stiff, which makes breathing difficult because the lungs have to work harder to transfer oxygen and carbon dioxide between the alveolar space and bloodstream. The transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway plays an important role in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis and scarring of the lung tissue. Recent clinical trials focused on the development of pharmacological agents that either directly or indirectly target kinases for the treatment of IPF. Therefore, to develop therapeutic targets for pulmonary fibrosis, it is essential to understand the key factors involved in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis and the underlying signaling pathway. The objective of this review is to discuss the role of kinase signaling cascades in the regulation of either TGF-β-dependent or other signaling pathways, including Rho-associated coiled-coil kinase, c-jun N-terminal kinase, extracellular signal-regulated kinase 5, and p90 ribosomal S6 kinase pathways, and potential therapeutic targets in IPF.
