  • Advancement toward aging society has presented the importance of house planning in consideration of the elderly, increasing the necessity of such planning. Therefore the importance of indoor design guideline for elderly houses has been stressed and the understanding of the aging in regard to this trend will create more mature spaces. In line with this trend the purpose of this study is to study the medical factors related with bathroom interior design guidelines of the existing elderly houses from the viewpoint of deteriorating physical functions due to aging process. In order to research the deterioration of physical functions due to aging literatures of medical and exercise physiology were used and concerning the existing bathroom design guidelines for the aged people, the guideline items of behavior facilitation, physiological maintenance and perceptual maintenance aspects out of Murtha & Lee's user benefit criteria(1976) related with physical functions were selected to research in relation with the knowledge about the deterioration phenomena of physical functions. Physical aging and deterioration aspects were classified from the viewpoint of musculoskeletal disorder, cardiovascular disorder, respiratory disorder, gastronomy disorder, urology disorder, somatosensory disorder, endocrine disorder, immune disorder, nervous disorder and skin diseases and these were utilized in interpreting total 100 items of bathroom design guideline. Because bathroom is the space where many physical movements are done, it had the closest relationship with the deterioration of musculoskeletal health in general and as bathroom is the space where people use water and feel the difference in temperature and moisture more than other spaces, deterioration of skin and somatosensory health had the next closest relationship. The result of this study revealed that regarding the deterioration of physical functions of the elderly people in aspect of their perceptibility as designers will design creatively and sincerely based on its relationship with nervous system in future, the result of this study will be used to develop better spatial designs efficiently to meet for the aging society.

  • Taiwan has experienced rapid economic growth during the past two decades. As a result, the demand for health care in Taiwan has increased rapidly. To meet the rising demand, Taiwan implemented a National Health Insurance (NHI) program on March 1, 1995. This program now covers more than 96 percent of Taiwan's citizens. Implementation of the NHI in 1995 represents fulfillment of a primary social and health policy goals of Taiwan. The goals of the NHI program is to eliminate financial barriers of health care for the citizens, to improve the quality of care. To achieve these goals, the NHI was designed on the following principles: 1. All Taiwan citizens are compul내교 joined the NHI program by law; 2. The NHI program provides comprehensive services; 3. The NHI is run by one single govt' subsidy; 5. The NHI adopt fee-for-services scheme to pay medical expenses and copayment to avoid abouse of medical services. However, the scheme did not bring in the efficient use of health care C. National Health Council, 1986 NARC, Aging in Japan, International Publication Series 1991;2 Kahana EF. Kiyak HA. • This study evaluates common activity and quality of life in Swedish cohousing units to examine whether Swedish cohousing functions properly or not. A questionnaire survey was fulfilled during the autumn of 2010 in G$\ddot{o}$teborg Sweden. The subjects of study were 12 of 44 cohousing units in Sweden that included 4 of the +40 cohousing and 8 of the mixed-age cohousing. A total of 242 of 353 distributed questionnaires were collected (68.6%) and analyzed by SPSS statistical program. The findings are as follow: 1) General characteristics of the respondents are that they are mostly healthy, evenly aged from age 50s to 70s and highly educated with significant proportions of academics and civil workers. There are more females than males and more singles than cohabitants. 2) The most frequent and preferred common activity is a common meal followed by a coffee meeting. A common dinner, the 'hub of living together' is held almost every day or at least a few times a week. A common meal is considered one of the most important activities because of practical and social advantages in that residents can save time and cooking costs as well as engage in social contact. Referring to evaluation of frequency and content of common activity, more than a half of the respondents prefer the current situation. 3) All of the variables (except health conditions and education level) affect participation in common activity with statistical significance. 4) Most of the respondents indicate a high level of life satisfaction and are willing to recommend others move to cohousing. They agree that there is more mutual support among residents in cohousing units than in a conventional community. In conclusion, Swedish cohousing units function successfully as they have pursued intentional community ideology and most of the residents are proud of their current living situations.

  • To find health problems of Pohang city and to plan the activities to solve them in the situation of localization, the mortalities of the citizens in recent three years from 1994 to 1996 were analyzed from the notices and the certificates of death. The ratios of the notices with the certificates of death In the rural area of Pohang city were higher than those of whole country, the ratios of the urban area were lower than the respective ones, and the ratio differences between the rural and urban area were increasing. It may be that medical facilities are not within easy access of the rural inhabitants. especially in the rural south district with high population density. The proportional mortality indicators(PMI) were lower them those of whole country, much lower in male. So the health status of young aged males is relatively unsatisfactory. The urban inhabitants died in hospitals about two times more than the rural inhabitants and the differences were increasing. It may be that living and housing conditions and socio-cultural differences affected on the places of death. Because it is thought that death in hospitals will be growing at high speed, it is necessary to enlarge facilities fur funeral services. The age standardized mortalities were lower than those of whole country and age grouped mortalities were also the same. There were not any consistent and meaningful findings in the sex ratios of mortality according to the age groups or the calendar years. The mortalities by neoplasms and cardiovascular diseases according to the twenty one major causes of death were rapidly increased from the middle ages in both male and female. So it is important to plan the activities for early detection and health maintenance or promotion by behavior modifications. The leading causes of death were cardiovascular diseases, hypertensive diseases, and traffic accidents. And accidental drowning because of coastal area, liver diseases in male, and low respiratory tract diseases in female were the leading causes of death in part of age groups.

  • In residential spaces, sanitary zones are where the most basic needs of human beings are met and are used by all members of the family. A high level of privacy is therefore required in their use. This research studies the current state of sanitary zones in collective houses and in detached houses from a comparative perspective first, and then analyses the satisfaction and dissatisfaction requirement levels of dwellers of each house in comparison so as to provide data to formulate a new design for sanitary zones that is suitable for each dwelling house. The results of this research are as follows. (1) The questionnaire respondents were mostly in their 30s and 40s (99.1% in total), and lived in a nuclear family system (87.7%). (2) The number of sanitary zones was found to be more than 2 in 62% of collective houses and in 60.7% of detached houses, which leads us to conclude that non-dwelling spaces are increasing in both types of houses. (3) Of the housing facilities,13% of collective houses and 9% of detached houses were equipped with a bidet. Both percentages are very low but it needs to be noted that the percentage is relatively high in collective houses. In safety facilities, the ratio of houses furnished with safety handlers for the aged was very low in both types of houses. (4) The residents of collective houses showed high levels of dissatisfaction with regard to the problems of storage space and steam production, while residents of detached houses expressed high levels of dissatisfaction with regard to the heating system, colors of finishing materials, size, dampness, steam production, and storage space.

  • As Korea has rapidly entered the aging society, the Korean government and academia are currently undergoing many researches on senior citizens. There also has been an increase in senior citizens' awareness on the importance of spatial designs that reflect the newly emerged needs brought out by their psychological and emotional changes as well as their physical aspects. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to propose a model for senior citizens' image preference to be adopted in future developments for senior-friendly spatial designs. A literature review and a questionnaire survey were implemented as research methods. The questionnaire survey was conducted at two senior welfare centers located in Seoul and Ansan and two disparate senior colleges, on the subjects of 86 senior citizens aged 60 and older. 7 styles of Romantic, Classic, Country, Modern, Natural, Casual, and Traditional were chosen for the study and the realms to apply the image preference were divided into Space, Element1 and Element2. For Space, its subcategories have been restricted to living room and bedroom while color, furniture and lighting for Element1 and material, pattern and props for Element2. Survey results were statistically analyzed for the correlation among socio-demographic factors of senior citizens, spaces and the elements. The study result showed that older age and men tended to prefer the modern style than younger age or women, and younger women preferred the romantic style. For the color preference in Element1, older men preferred the classic style while women preferred the romantic style. And, for the furniture preference, men with higher income preferred the natural style while women preferred the romantic style. For the pattern preference in Element2, younger people preferred the casual style and it showed that the housing type was the main reason for their preferences. Therefore, the image preference according to their age and gender shall be taken account of as the most important factors when designing environments for senior citizens.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest planning directions of architectural integrates model by analysing the foreign case of integrated services for the aged and the disabled. For this study, we have researched on three different aspects. Three aspects are the element of barrier-free, architectural planning, information technology and operation. Based on the analysis of overseas examples, the good circumstance for both the disabled and the elder as one of member in the local societies could be defined like the following conditions: that is, (1) IT technology facilitates both barrier-free architecture and life to be easier and safer, and (2) both the disabled and the elder in local societies live together with the non-disabled in the same community. To realize this purpose, for a short-term plan, the system of feedback, examining the results of the research through the examples of housing plan, should be improved. In addition to, the system of public service, such as introducing the institutes for social educations, should be developed to result in the change of social insight. For a long-term plan, the whole society should have the research and plan of the unified model in a dimension of cities, where the network of public welfare is deeply associated with the system of the architecture, traffic, streets, and living-supporting information.

  • The creative class is the class of workers whose job is to create meaningful new forms. Recently, much attention has been focused on the role of the creative class in regional development. Many policy makers have invested to amenities to attract more creative class into their cities or regions for regional economic growth. However, there are only a few studies about the migration of the creative class in Korea. The purpose of this study is to make an analysis of the movement of the creative class by using the 17th Korean Labor & Income Panel Study. According to empirical results, the creative class are more likely to move than the non-creative class. The characteristic of creative class who moved is related to married man aged 20s and 30s without own house. Also, there is the difference between determinants of migration of the creative class and the non-creative class. It was founded that the most important determinants of migration of the creative class are housing related reasons such as home ownership and job reasons. Relationship, convenient facilities are not important factors when the creative class make a decision to move.
