Pd-based metallic membranes for hydrogen separation and production

  • Low cost composite metallic membranes for the hydrogen separation and production have been prepared by using thin Pd-Ag foils reinforced by metallic (stainless steel and nickel) structures. Especially, “supported membranes” have been obtained by a diffusion welding procedure in which Pd-Ag thin foils have been joined with perforated metals (nickel) and expanded metals (stainless steel): in these membranes the thin palladium foil assures both the high hydrogen permeability and the perm-selectivity while the metallic support provides the mechanical strength. A second studied method of producing "laminated membranes" consists of coating non-noble metal sheets with very thin palladium layers by diffusion welding and cold-rolling. Palladium thin coatings over these metals reduce the activation energy of the hydrogen adsorption process and make them permeable to the hydrogen. In this case, the dense non-noble metal has been used as a support structure of the thin Pd-Ag layers coated over its surfaces: a proper thickness of the metal assures the mechanical strength, the absence of defects (cracks, micro-holes) and the complete hydrogen selectivity of the membrane. membrane.

Novel Linking Ligand Containing Sulfur-Donor Atoms and Its Compounds of Palladium and Silver

  • A linking ligand containing sulfur donor atoms in the terminal thiophene rings, 1,2-bis(thiophen-2-ylmethylene) hydrazine (L), was prepared by Schiff-base condensation. Ligand L reacted with [PdCl2(NCPh)2] to produce a molecular Pd compound [PdL2Cl2] (1). On the other hand, it reacted with AgNO3 and AgClO4 to produce a 2-D network [AgL0.5(NO3)] (2) and a 1-D polymer [AgL]ClO4 (3), respectively, whose structures are based on secondary intermolecular forces such as H-bonding, van der Waals interaction, and π-π stacking. Polymer 2 exhibited photoluminescence at room temperature in the solid state.

  • An ultrasound-assisted Sn-Ag-Pd activation method for electroless copper plating was presented in this study. With this activation process, it was shown that the fine catalyst particles were homogeneously distributed with high density on the entire specimen. In addition, it was observed that incubation period occurred during the electroless plating step was decreased owing to the absorption of Ag which holds high catalytic activity. Resulting from the refinement and high densification of catalyst, the defect-free gap-fill was achieved within the 20x nm trench.

과망간산염의 산화 과정을 응용한 PET 위 무전해 도금의 은 활성화 공정 (Silver Activation Process Utilizing Permanganate Oxidation for Electroless Copper Plating on PET)

  • 본 실험에서는 PET 위 무전해 도금을 위한 대안 공정 개발을 목적으로 은(Ag)와 과망간산염($MnO_4{^-}$)를 사용하여 기존에 일반적으로 사용된 Sn/Pd의 Sensitization과 Activation process를 대체하는 기술을 연구했다. Palladium(Pd)의 경우 공정비용에서 높은 부분을 차지하기 때문에 이를 대신하여 Ag를 사용했으며, PET 표면의 전처리를 위해 Ultra Violet과 과망간 산염을 이용하여 표면의 친수성을 높였다. 과망간산염을 사용하여 표면을 전처리하는 과정에서 이산화망간($MnO_2$)과 알코올 작용기가 생성되는데 Ag activation 단계에서 촉매 생성에 중간 매개체 역할을 하는 것으로 사료된다. 이와 같은 결론을 도출 하기 위해서 표면 위 Ag의 화학적 구조 및 상 분석을 위해 XPS와 TEM이 사용되었으며 표면에서 Ag는 Ag-O와 같은 Silver oxide의 형태와 Ag-Mn-O와 같은 Compound로 무전해 도금을 위한 촉매 역할 하는 것으로 판단된다.

도재 소부용 팔라디움계 합금의 도재 결합양상에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE BONDING BEHAVIOR OF PALLADIUM-BASED ALLOYS FOR CERAMO-MENTAL RESTORATION)

  • To observe the bonding behavior of palladium-based alloys to porcelain; 1. Pd-Co binary alloy with the higher cobalt content, 2. Pd-Co binary alloy with the lower cobalt content, 3. Pd-Ag-Sn ternary alloy, 4. Pd-Ag binary alloy, 5. Pd-Cu-Au ternary alloy and 6. Pd-Cu binary alloy were made as 6 groups of experimental alloys. Each group of alloy was divided into 4 sub-groups such as one sub-group that was not degassed and three sub-groups that degassed for 5 minutes, 10 minutes and 15 minutes. On each specimen, weight changes after degassing, morphological changes of oxide layer by changing the degassing time, compositional changes at metal-ceramic interface and bond strength of metal-ceramic measured with planar shear test were observed and compared. The results of the present study allow the following conclusions to be drawn: 1. The alloy showing the greatest bond strength was Pd-Cu alloy without gold and bond strength was decreased by alloying gold to them. 2. Although Pd-Co alloy showed the most prominent oxidation behavior, bond strength of them to porcelain was not greatly high by the formation of porosities at metal-ceramic interfaces. 3. Likewise tin, cobalt formed the peaks on line profiles at metal-ceramic interface, however copper did not exhibit such peaks on line profiles. 4. Mainly, oxide layer on Pd-Co alloy was composed with cobalt, and for Pd-Co alloy with higher cobalt content the rise of bond strength was not significant by increased degassing time. 5. On Pd-Ag alloy not containing tin, during degassing for 15 minutes silver content was increased at metal-ceramic interface. 6. As an oxidized element, tin formed the oxide layers that widen their area by increasing the degassing time, while cobalt and copper showed the morphological changes of particle or crystal on oxide layer.

  • In order to fabricate the multilayer piezoelectric transformer by tape casting method, we investigated the effect of $TiO_2$ and PZT powder additions on the Ag/Pd electrode. Meanwhile, effects of $TiO_2$ and PZT powder additives on the microstructure and electrical properties of Ag/Pd electrode were investigated in detail. In addition, the multilayer piezoelectric transformers were fabricated and the characteristics with various load resistance were measured at resonance frequency. The voltage step-up ratio was continuously change with increasing input voltage and load resistance, and then output voltage and powers were increased with increasing input voltage at matching impedance. The temperature rise of multilayer piezoelectric transformers were increased with increasing input voltage and load resistance. Meanwhile, multilayer piezoelectric transformers sintered at $1100^{\circ}C$ show the favorable characteristics with a power of 15 W at $100\;{\Omega}$.

관교의치 및 금속 도재 보철물용 Ni-Cr 합금과 Ag-Pd 합금의 재사용에 따른 주조 재현성의 변화 (Castability of Some Repeatedly Used Ni-Cr Alloys and Ag-Pd Alloys for Crown and Bridge and Metal-Ceramic Restorations)

  • The purpose of this study is to evalute the effects of melting and casting procedures on the castability of some N-Cr and Ag-Pd alloys. One Ag-Pd alloy and two Ni-Cr alloys were chosen for study, and the first casting group of these alloys were used as the control, and with which the castability of the first recase group and the mixture group of the first recast and as much amount of the first casting alloy was compared. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The castability of the first recast alloys veried significantly depending upon the presence or abscence of the first casting alloy and the kind of alloys. 2. When the first recast alloy was mixed with as much amount of the first casting alloy, there was no significant difference in castabilityh between the first recast group and the first casting group. 3. When the first recast alloy was used alone, the castability veried significantly depending upon the kind of alloys, i.e., the castability of Rexillium III and Palliag M was decreased significantly when compared with that of the first casting groups, while that of C & B Alloy was not.

Pt 기반 이원계 나노입자의 산소 및 일산화탄소 흡착 특성에 대한 전자밀도함수이론 연구 (Density Functional Theory Study of Separated Adsorption of O2 and CO on Pt@X(X = Pd, Ru, Rh, Au, or Ag) Bimetallic Nanoparticles)

  • We perform density functional theory calculations to study the CO and $O_2$ adsorption chemistry of Pt@X core@shell bimetallic nanoparticles (X = Pd, Rh, Ru, Au, or Ag). To prevent CO-poisoning of Pt nanoparticles, we introduce a Pt@X core-shell nanoparticle model that is composed of exposed surface sites of Pt and facets of X alloying element. We find that Pt@Pd, Pt@Rh, Pt@Ru, and Pt@Ag nanoparticles spatially bind CO and $O_2$, separately, on Pt and X, respectively. Particularly, Pt@Ag nanoparticles show the most well-balanced CO and $O_2$ binding energy values, which are required for facile CO oxidation. On the other hand, the $O_2$ binding energies of Pt@Pd, Pt@Ru, and Pt@Rh nanoparticles are too strong to catalyze further CO oxidation because of the strong oxygen affinity of Pd, Ru, and Rh. The Au shell of Pt@Au nanoparticles preferentially bond CO rather than $O_2$. From a catalysis design perspective, we believe that Pt@Ag is a better-performing Pt-based CO-tolerant CO oxidation catalyst.

Zr-Al-Cu-Ni계 합금의 비정질형성능에 미치는 Pd과 Ag 복합첨가의 영향 (The Influence of (Pd+Ag) Additions on the Glass Forming Ability of Zr-Al-Cu-Ni based Alloys)

  • The influence of Pd and Ag additions on the thermal stability, the glass forming ability (GFA) and mechanical property of $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{20}Ni_{10}Pb_{(5-x)}Ag_x$ (x = $0{\sim}5at%$) alloys obtained by melt spun and injection casting method have been investigated by using of X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (DTA, DSC) and micro-Vickers hardness(Hv) testing. The thermal properties of melt-spun $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{20}Ni_{10}Pb_{(5-x)}Ag_x$ (x = $0{\sim}5at%$) alloys exhibit a supercooled liquid region(${\Delta}T_x$) exceeding 91 K before crystallization. The largest ${\Delta}T_x$ reaches as large as 126 K for the $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{20}Ni_{10}Pb_5$ alloy. The reduced glass transition temperature, $T_{rg}$ increased with increasing Ag content. The largest $T_{rg}$ is obtained for the $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{10}Ni_{10}Ag_5$ alloy. The $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{10}Ni_{10}Ag_5$ bulk amorphous alloy rod with 3 mm in diameter was fabricated by injection casting. Hv increased with increasing Ag content and the largest value was obtained for the $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Cu_{10}Ni_{10}Ag_5$ bulk amorphous alloy.

  • 착물들의 자기성과 스펙트라의 성질은 d 궤도 함수의 퇴화에 대한 분열과 자외선 가시 분광학적 방법으로 비수용액 속에서 조사하였다. 10Dq의 에너지 크기는 착물들의 스펙트라와 결합에너지 그리고 스핀상태로부터 얻어졌다. 전기화학적 거동은 순환전압 전류법에 의해 측정하였다. 이들의 환원 피크는 Ag/AgCl 전극으로 20mV/s에서 $[(C_6H_5)3_P]_2Pd(II)(CH_3COO)_2$$E_{pc1} = -1.32 V,\;E_{pc2} = -1.56 V$이고, 그리고 $[(C_6H_5)_3Pd]_2Pd(II)Cl_2$에서는 $E_{pc1} = -1.74 V,\;E_{pc2} = -1.88 V$로 일전자 비가역적인 과정이었다. 그러나 $Ni^{2+}$ 착물에서는 환원성으로 되지 않았다.
