Sputtering conditions and various underlayer such as Al, Cu, Ni, Cr, Ag, Mg, Fe, Co, Pd, Au, Pt, Mo and Hf were investigated for coercivity enhancement of 20 nm Ti/CoCrPt thin films in order to increase the coercivity of the films thinner than 20 nm. Among them, Ag and Mg were effective to increase the coercivity. Particularly 2 nm Ag was very effective to increase the coercivity and nucleation field as well as to reduce ${\alpha}$ value in CoCrPt thin film such that the coercivity of 2 nm Ag/18 nm Ti/10 nm CoCrPt film was 2200 Oe. However, it seemed that other coercivity enhancement mechanism operated in CoCrPt films because Ti (002) preferred texture was not developed with Ag underlayer contrary to a general expectation. And the coercivity and nucleation field were decreased when glass substrate with rougher surface was used.
We have deposited the bilayer consisted of the underlayer and the overlayer by using DC magnetron sputter on Single crystal MgO (001) substrate. This bilayer was fabricated at fixed annealing temperature and time. We have controlled agglomeration effect by changing of the bilayer thickness. Finally, we have made the self-organization and nano-structured film. In this processing, we have made nano-dot which consists of the underlayer and the overlayer, unlike the existing method called the agglomeration effect in the single layer. The underlayer has deposited using Ti, Cr and Co. And the overlayer has deposited with Ag. Through the analysis of Atomic force microscopy (AFM), the microstructure of underlayer is observed by AFM to confirm the formation of nano-dot. As the nano-dot through above processing, we have found that the nano-dot has the different shape. As a result, when we manufactured nano-dot through the agglomeration effect of bi-layer, the best matching material is Ti for underlayer. And also, we have found that MgO/Ti/Ag samples have been grown expitaxially toward the direction of MgO (001) by X-ray Diffraction analysis.
The composition and thickness dependence and the ferromagnetic under- and overlayer effect on the magnetoresistance ratio and saturation field of the Co-Ag nano-granular films were investigated. The maximum magnetoresistance (23% at R.T.) in the as-deposited state was obtained in the $3000{\AA}$$Co_{30} Ag_{70}$ bare alloy film. As the thickness of the alloy films decreased below $500{\AA}$, the MR ratio decreased because of the resistivity increase and the non-uniform film formation. We showed that the ferromagnetic over- and underlayer could reduce the saturation field of the nano-granular films via exchange coupling effect. The magnetoresistance and the saturation field of the $100{\AA}$ alloy film were 3.65 % and 2.85 kOe respectively and those of the under- and overlayered alloy films with $200{\AA}$ Fe were 3.3 % and 1.23 kOe respectively.

We have studied diffusion behavior of NiFe/Ag bilayer deposited by on silicon Ion Beam Sputtering methods. The diffusion behavior of NiFe and Ag in NiFe/Ag thin film is analyzed by Medium Energy Ion Scattering Spectroscopy. For samples without Ta underlayer, silicides such as Ni-Si or Fe-Si were formed at Si substrate and NiFe interface. In contrast, Ag predominantly diffused into the NiFe layer probably through their grain boundaries for Ta underlayered samples.
A transparent quantum dot (QD)-based light-emitting diode (LED) with silver nanowire (Ag NW) and indium-tin oxide (ITO) hybrid electrode is demonstrated. The device consists of an Ag NW-ITO hybrid cathode (-), zinc oxide, poly (9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK), CdSe/CdZnS QD, tungsten trioxide, and ITO anode (+). The device shows pure green-color emission peaking at 548 nm, with a narrow spectral half width of 43 nm. Devices with hybrid cathodes show better performances, including higher luminance with higher current density, and lower threshold voltage of 5 V, compared with the reference device with a pure Ag NW cathode. It is worth noting that our transparent device with hybrid cathode exhibits a lifetime 9,300 seconds longer than that of a device with Ag NW cathode. This is the reason that the ITO overlayer can protect against oxidization of Ag NW, and the Ag NW underlayer can reduce the junction resistance and spread the current efficiently. The hybrid cathode for our transparent QD LED can applicable to other quantum structure-based optical devices.

For low-emissivity application on window glass, coalescence of thin film silver islands is crucial for high transmittance in the visible and high reflectance in the infrared. It is well known that the underlayer affects the growth mode. In this work, the effect of the underlayer on the growth of silver films deposited by filtered cathodic vacuum arc is discussed. While a nominal 0.1 nm niobium underlayer has promoted the coalescence of silver islands, a 0.2 nm layer did not show these features. From a thermodynamic approach, Nb seeding less one monolayer is considered to reduce the surface energy between the silver atoms and $Nb/TiO_2$ surface, resulting the change of its growth from 3D islands to 2D-layer modes. If the seed layer exceeds one monolayer, however, a rougher surface is formed because the surface energy of Nb itself is superior to that of $Nb-TiO_2$. The onset of silver layer on the roughened Nb surface is required more silver.
The structural, magnetic and magnetoresistance properties of Co/Ag multilayer films prepared by thermal coevaporation were studied. When the Ag layer was $60{\AA}$ thick, the Co layer behaved ferromagnetically even with the thickness of $5{\AA}$. However, when the thickness of Ag layer was $30{\AA}$ and that of Co layer was less than $15{\AA}$ thick, the Co layer became discontinuous and the islands of Co behaved mostly superpararnagnetically. The maximum MR ratio, 6.1% was obtained in the $3000{\AA}\;Ag30{\AA}/Co10{\AA}$ Ag30 A ICo 10 A discontinuous multilayer. Agglomeration of the Co layer was promoted by annealing and hence MR ratio increased when the thickness of Ag layer was thinner than $15{\AA}$. The SiO underlayer enhanced the MR ratio in the $1000{\AA}$ thick multilayer via the layer structure improvement.

IGZO/Ag bi-layered films were deposited on glass substrate at room temperature with radio frequency and direct current magnetron sputtering, respectively to consider the effect of Ag buffer layer on the electrical, optical and structural properties. For all deposition, while the thickness of Ag buffer layer was varied as 10, 15, and 20 nm, The thickness of IGZO films were kept at 100 nm, In a comparison of figure of merit, IGZO films with 15 nm thick Ag buffer layer show the higher figure of merit ($1.1{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}^{-1}$) than that of the IGZO single layer films ($3.7{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}^{-1}$). From the observed results, it is supposed that the IGZO 100 nm/Ag 15 nm bi-layered films may be an alternative candidate for transparent electrode in a transparent thin film transistor device.

In this study, the effects of alloying elements and thermal aging on the contact resistance of electroplated gold alloy layers were investigated by surface analysis using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The contact resistance of Au-Ag alloy was lower than that of Au-Ni or Au-Co alloy after thermal aging. The XPS results show that nickel and oxygen present as nickel oxides such as NiO and $Ni_2O_3$ on the surface of gold layers after thermal aging. The increase in the contact resistance after thermal aging is attributable to the nickel oxide layer formed on the surface of the gold layers. The content of nickel diffused from the underlayer during the thermal aging was high in the order of Au-Co, Au-Ni and Au-Ag alloy because the area of grain boundary was large in the order of Au-Ag, Au-Ni and Au-Co alloy.
