Objective: To analyze the overall treatment effects in terms of the amount of uprighting with changes in the three-dimensional positions of the mandibular posterior teeth after applying the biocreative reverse curve (BRC) system. Methods: Thirty-four patients (mean age, 20.5 ± 8.56 years) were treated using the BRC system (mean period, 8.17 ± 2.19 months). Cone-beam computed tomography was performed before treatment and after treatment with the BRC system. The three-dimensional movement of each tooth was analyzed in the coordinate system at points on the crown and root apex. A paired t-test was used to analyze the treatment effects of the BRC system. Results: The application of the BRC system spanning from the first premolar to the second molar resulted not only in buccal and distal uprighting, but also in increased buccal and distal tipping of the teeth. The premolars and the first molar were extruded, and the second molar was intruded. Conclusions: When the BRC system is applied, simultaneous distal and buccal uprighting of the premolars and molars can be achieved bilaterally using a temporary skeletal anchorage device without unnecessary movement of the anterior teeth.
The purpose of this study was to develop a turn-type treatment program which applies the principle of spotting and a roll-type treatment program that induces off-vertical axis. 29 collegiate students volunteered for this study. 12-week treatment programs were applied to both 15 students for turn-type treatment group and 14 students for roll-type treatment group. As an analytic tool, eye camera was employed to verify the treatment programs for a stimulus upon a turn, recovery after a stimulus upon a turn, and nystagmus that affects a vestibular system. Two-way ANOVA with repeated measures was applied to see the significant differences between the treatment groups, and between the test periods. For Post-Hoc Test, paired t-test was used to within the group and independent t-test was used to between the groups. The results indicated that roll-type treatment training has maximized a stimulus on nystagmyus during the stimulus by a roll. Turn-type treatment training has maximized a stimulus on nystagmyus right after a stimulus by a roll and significantly decreased the intensity of nystagmyus during the recovery. Both turn and roll type treatments have reduced the recovery time which from nystagmyus to a normal status. Roll-type treatment has showed a much shorter recovery time for nystagmyus than the roll-type treatment has. Based on the results of treatment programs developed in this study, we expect the treatment programs can be applied to treat dizziness and to improve the function of vestibular system as a rehabilitation tool.
Culture-dependent methods, such as heterotrophic plate counting (HPC), are usually applied to evaluate the bacteriological quality of hemodialysis water. However, these methods cannot detect the uncultured or viable but non-culturable (VBNC) bacteria, both of which may be quantitatively predominant throughout the hemodialysis water treatment system. Therefore, propidium monoazide (PMA)-qPCR associated with HPC was used together to profile the distribution of the total viable bacteria in such a system. Moreover, high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons was utilized to analyze the microbial community structure and diversity. The HPC results indicated that the total bacterial counts conformed to the standards, yet the bacteria amounts were abruptly enhanced after carbon filter treatment. Nevertheless, the bacterial counts detected by PMA-qPCR, with the highest levels of $2.14{\times}10^7copies/100ml$ in softener water, were much higher than the corresponding HPC results, which demonstrated the occurrence of numerous uncultured or VBNC bacteria among the entire system before reverse osmosis (RO). In addition, the microbial community structure was very different and the diversity was enhanced after the carbon filter. Although the diversity was minimized after RO treatment, pathogens such as Escherichia could still be detected in the RO effluent. In general, both the amounts of bacteria and the complexity of microbial community in the hemodialysis water treatment system revealed by molecular approaches were much higher than by traditional method. These results suggested the higher health risk potential for hemodialysis patients from the up-to-standard water. The treatment process could also be optimized, based on the results of this study.
Clozapine is the first and most effective atypical antipsychotic drug for treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS). After withdrawal of clozapine due to concerns of agranulocytosis, clozapine was reintroduced with a comprehensive safety monitoring system, the clozapine patient monitoring system (CPMS). The reintroduction was a response to the pressure from psychiatrists and patients with TRS and their families. Clozapine is still the best single agent for the treatment of TRS. However, approximately 30% of patients with TRS still show psychotic symptoms. In patients with clozapine-resistant schizophrenia (CRS), augmentation of other antipsychotic agents could be considered after a thorough evaluation of proper clozapine treatment. In this review, the status of clozapine in patients with TRS and CRS will be discussed.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of $PC_6$ moxibustion treatment for reducing mental stress using power spectrum analysis of the heart rate variability(HRV). Methods : 20 healthy volunteers(simple rest group : 10, moxibustion treatment group : 10) participated in this study. After instrumentation and 5-minutes rest period, mental stress by operation was provided for 5-minutes. HRV was recorded before and after the mental stress. And then the simple rest group rested for 15-minutes. The moxibustion treatment group was treated by $PC_6$ moxibustion and rested for 15-minutes. And then HRV was recorded. Results : In simple rest group, LF norm and HF norm showed a significant change after mental stress. In moxibustion treatment group, LF, HF, LF norm, HF norm and LF/HF showed a significant change after mental stress. But there were no significant difference between two groups(p>0.05) except HF. In moxibustion treatment group, LF, LF norm, HF norm and LF/HF showed a significant change after moxibustion treatment. There were significant differences between two groups(p<0.05). Conclusions : The result suggests that $PC_6$ moxibustion treatment can regulate and prevent the alteration of autonomic nerve system by mental stress.
Changes of occlusal contacts after E.M.G. biofeedback therapy with D.D.S. (Self control system, EMG 220, Sandiago California) was investigated in 20 SNUH students and residents with normal occlusion. Treatment time was 30 minutes on every subject. Occlusal contacts of before biofeedback therapy were taken at 4: 00 P.M. and that of after biofeedback therapy were taken at 4:40 P.M. Author compared the occlusal contacts before biofeedback therapy with that of after biofeedback therapy. The obtained results were as follow : 1. The number of occlusal contacts was 23.9, before biofeedback therapy and, 26.3, after biofeedback therapy. 2. The percentage of accentuated contact to diffuse contact was 78.5%, before treatment and 38.8% after treatment. 3. 6 heaviest contacts were changed 4.3 teeth per one subject after biofeedback therapy.
The purpose of this study is to observe the purification characteristics of NOx, CO and HC in various catalysts and excess air ratio conditions. For this purpose, we installed various catalysts on the back stream of the coaxial diffusion burner with swirler. As the result, in the case of NOx, Pt-Rh catalyst shows very high value that is more than 90%-conversion efficiency without the relation with the excess air ratio. After excess air ratio of ${\alpha}=1.14$, it shows that the conversion efficiencies were more than 80% in the every Pt catalyst in the view of conversion of every exhaust with changing of the excess air ratio.
In this paper, we have investigated on collection efficiency of fine particle of glass fiber-filter bag according to the surface treatment. The solution consisted of polytetrafluoroethylene(teflon), graphite powder, silicon resin and water was used as a basic surface treatment agent. Tensile strength of glass filter-bag increased with up to 3hrs and then decreased with surface treatment time. Tensile strength and initial modulus of the glass fiber-filter bag treated by iodine after basic surface treatment for 3hrs were lower than those of basic surface treatment for 3hrs, however collection efficiency and fracture strain were higher than those of basic surface treatment for 3hrs. Glass fiber-filter bag with lower initial modulus and more strain will be extend the durable period and the one treated by iodine after basic surface treatment 3or 3hrs is expected high collection efficiency of fine particle. This method makes it possible to manufacture glass fiber-filter bag of the optimum condition.
Objective : The objective of this study is to investigate treatment results and reasons of difference of treatment result. Method : 22 patients with atopic dermatitis were evaluated for the symptoms and signs according to SCORAD index before and after Oriental medical treatment. And they were divided into two groups(G1: the lower group, G2: the higher group) with 30 scores in standard and analyzed for differences of treatment result. Reasult : 22 patients's Change of total SCORAD index before and after treatment were $35.79{\pm}10.86$ and period were $4.55{\pm}2.94$ months. There were no significant differences between two groups in sex, age, congenital fever, onset and hospital treatment. There were many differences between two groups in the weakness of Digestive system. There were more familial histories in G2 than G1. Past years were $3.20{\pm}3.72$ years in G1 and $1.75{\pm}1.68$ years in G2. There were more deterioration fetors in G1 than G2. Sleep conditions before treatment were worse in G2 than G1 but all children except one were good after treatment. SCORAD index before treatment were worse in G2 than G1. The used herbal medicines were Bangpungtongsungsan gagambang, Yukmijihawangtang gagambang, Saenghyeolyunbuum gagambang. The most frequently used herbal medicine was Bangpungtongsungsan gagambang in G1, Yukmijihawangtang gagambang in G2. Conclusion : On the basis of this study, we thought factors which affected treatment result were the weakness of Digestive system, past years, deterioration factors and SCORAD index before treatment. But this study's cases are small in number so more study is need.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to find out the efficacy of placenta on the skin by comparing the difference effect between only MTS (microneedle therapy system) and the placenta extract application after MTS treatment. Methods : The present author performed once a week and total 4 times of MTS treatment. The treatment time took about 5~10 minutes and the depth of the needle was adjusted according to the participant's skin condition. One week after each treatment, the change of skin condition was measured. Two weeks after the end of the clinical trial, the skin condition was checked again. Results : In the case of moisture and elasticity, significant increases were observed in both the experimental and control groups. In the experimental group, skin temperature significantly decreased one week after the second treatment, and pore size significantly increased one week after the third treatment. In the case of skin tone, there was a significant temporary decrease after the first treatment in the control group, and in the experimental group, the skin tone showed a total decrease. Conclusion : When placenta extract was applied after MTS, skin temperature decreased and pores enlarged in the second and third treatments, and side effects such as rash and itchiness appeared. The final result showed a significant increase in skin moisture and elasticity. When animal-based ingredients containing high fat content are applied to the skin, the effect on the skin is good, but hypersensitivity reactions may occur, so use them with caution.
