  • Today, construction fence screens which were understood simply as structures of separating people from the dangers of construction sites have evolved into landmarks to enhance the images of Cities. Now, construction fence screens should have the function as landmarks stimulating people's sensibility through providing aesthetic values as well as the function of protecting people from the dangers of fields of construction. For this reason, this study tried 1) to show the relationships among these 4 classifications. is 4 realms of Human Beings - Cultural - Ecological - Digital in the expression methods of the construction fence screens of Seoul and 2) to simplify the characteristic elements of construction fence screens by way of extracting with Ecology, Installation Art, Symbolic, Commercial Expression. This study examined whether or not the construction fence screens of Seoul were playing the role as landmarks stimulating people's sensibility with sustainable improvement to the environment of Seoul as public design structures, by investigating some of the construction fence screens of Seoul. Also through analyzing the diversity of expression methods of the construction fence screens of other local governments as well as those of Seoul, we hope that they will be the public structures for enhancing the images of Cities.

  • Subway is a major transportation in the city that is allied to the daily life of people. As a public space, subway station must satisfy the citizens with convenience, safety and esthetic factors. The bench which is one of the major street furniture on the subway platform has a lot of physical contact. Therefore the design of benches must be considered in the aspects of not only aesthetic design but also ergonomic design. The goal of this study is to find out the current conditions and problems of benches and at the same time suggest how to arrange, design, and manage them at the proper manners at subway platform. The result of the study is as follows. First, the problems of design are that the benches at a same platform have various design, the saturation of color is too high, and the design is unfashionable. The second, at the management part there is no such a total management system and specialist for the street furniture section and lack of rational management regulations. The third, results of a new survey suggest that citizens think negatively about present bench's conditions such as design and administration.

  • In Korea, the top priority of the exterior space in the urban commercial street has been put on the road and parking for cars, not on the street for pedestrians, because of the lack of institutional urban planning, the land use of high density, the pursuit of maximum commercial profit, etc. Also, it is true that the form and facade of the street buildings which form the characteristics of the commercial street are regarded as the consumption-stimulating tool and, subsequently, are symbolized for commercial profit. This study starts from the recognition of reality, and, with the perspective of general plan for urban exterior space, tries to improve the environmental design of street space. Also, this study searches the ways to enhance the cultural, art, aesthetic and functional values of a city, as well as the ways to promote commercial activities and to perform commercial symbolism and pedestrian functions. This study aims at exploring the importance of street environmental design and the information of environmental design, so that the problems of current street environment, which generates the disorder and chaos of information, may be solved. Also, this study aims at promoting the continuous development for the future street environmental design and design plan.

  • Recommendable reconstructive surgery in the patient with thumb amputation through base of the first metacarpal bone is pollicization. Some patients who do not agree with harvest sound finger as a new thumb, we can consider other options as toe transplantation or osteoplastic thumb reconstruction for creating thumb. Toe transplantation to the thumb is effective procedure in the amputation of distal to metacarpal shaft, it is rarely indicated in the cases of proximal to base of the first metacarpal bone. We performed three cases of modified osteoplastic thumb reconstruction with free vascularized rib that combined with scapular free flap or radial forearm flap. The length of transplanted rib ranged from 7~11cm, the donor vessels are posterior intercostal artery and vein which anastomosed to radial artery. The grafted rib wrapped with additional free flap for creating new thumb. Result of that procedure was not much encouraging, aesthetic appearance and mobility of thumb were not so satisfactory but reconstructed thumb gave improvement of the hand function without sacrificing toe or other digit. That gave reasonable stability for powerful side pinch and three pod pinch and opposable thumb with normal carpo-metacarpal joint motion that can give much function to the thumb absent hand. In spite of those disadvantages, thumb reconstruction with rib transfer can be useful for patients who do not want to lose another part of the body for creating thumb in basal amputation of the thumb metacarpal.

  • Purpose: Soft tissue defect on foot and ankle is vulnerable and requires a thin flap for improvement of aesthetic and functional results. Lateral supramalleolar flap is a simple and fast procedure, which can preserve and supply reliable constant blood flow, and causes fewer donor site complications. The authors reviewed our cases and report the clinical results. Materials and Methods: Ten cases of soft tissue defects on the lower leg, around the ankle were treated with lateral supramalleolar flap. There were seven males and three females with a mean age of 54.8 years. The mean size of flaps was $5.9{\times}6.3$ cm and the mean follow-up period was 23 months. Flap survival and postoperative complications were evaluated. Results: Nine flaps survived completely without loss of flap. There was one case of partial wound dehiscence requiring debridement and repair, and another case of necrotic flap change requiring partial bone resection and closure. All patients were capable of weight bearing ambulation at the last follow up. Conclusion: The authors suggest that the lateral supramalleolar flap could be a useful option for treatment of soft tissue defect around the ankle joint.

  • The atrium in the building has many advantages including its aesthetic and functional effect. But the upper part of the atrium has the thermal problem of overheating due to insolation through the window. But natural ventilation aided buoyancy effect can be a solution to make comfortable indoor environment. Proper design of openings is very important to improve thermal environment in the atrium. In this study, thermal evaluations were performed to improve thermal environment in the atrium. Indoor thermal environment of an atrium at Seoul was measured in the field and simulated with Computational Fluid Dynamics( CFD) code. The turbulent flow model adopted is $K-{\varepsilon}$ model. The results of computer simulations are compared with the measurements at the point in the atrium. In order to improve the indoor ventilation environment of the atrium, thermal environment evaluations of six alternatives were conducted. After evaluations of the results, the design guidelines of an atrium are suggested.

  • In consumer space, architecture is experiencing the rise of architectural design that reflects the experience of the customer. As a result, the shape and space in architecture have overcome their basic functional aspirations, thus fulfilling the aesthetic desires driven by human sensibility. This has led to overcome the primary internal condition of sales of industrial establishments and made possible its role as a marketing tool through the improvement of the brand image and in charge of indirect sales. This research will be based on the Prada Tokyo Epee Center's architectural process, designed by Herzog De Moron, focusing on the relationship between the space design process and strategy and experimental marketing aiming towards the architect's intention and goal in relation to perceptive communication. This paper will thus look into how experiential marketing strategies, prominent in marketing, are being shown in comsumer spaceas design elements. It will further investigate into how design elements is being used as a tool for product sales and brand image reconstruction. In conclusion, authors discuss importance of experimental marketing tool in the current consumer society and role of contemporary architects who need to consider design that does not only satisfy their customers but further stimulates their desires.

  • The disposal of stormwater is one of the major problems in urban water management. One method of reducing peak runoff rates and other detrimental impacts of stormwater is detention storage. Detention ponds as a water quality control alternatives have been investigated by a number of researchers. Recognizing multiple roles such as flood peak attenuation, pollution removal and aesthetic enhancement, the design and management of detentions ponds deserve more research. The purpose of this research is to establish design criteria wet detention ponds to improve water quality. Water quality in detention pond discharge might be improve with physical, chemical and biological alterations. Physical alteration was focused in this study. There are several methods for estimating the suspended solid control capability of wet detention ponds. Existing models of suspended solids removal are based on sedimentation and gravity settling theory. The pollutant trap efficiency of pond is a function of several interrelating factors. Detention time is the most important factor, because it determine gravity settling quantities of pollutants. Desirable modification of physical factors for improvement of water quality in wet detention ponds are volume ratio, area ratio, length to width ratio, depth, out let location, bottom soil type. In order to apply design procedure in actual site, Namak new town development area was selected.
