  • An original sensor system based on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) for the strain monitoring of an adaptive wing element is presented in this paper. One of the main aims of the SARISTU project is in fact to measure the shape of a deformable wing for performance optimization. In detail, an Adaptive Trailing Edge (ATE) is monitored chord- and span-wise in order to estimate the deviation between the actual and the desired shape and, then, to allow attaining a prediction of the real aerodynamic behavior with respect to the expected one. The integration of a sensor system is not trivial: it has to fit inside the available room and to comply with the primary issue of the FBG protection. Moreover, dealing with morphing structures, large deformations are expected and a certain modulation is necessary to keep the measured strain inside the permissible measure range. In what follows, the mathematical model of an original FBG-based structural sensor system is presented, designed to evaluate the chord-wise strain of an Adaptive Trailing Edge device. Numerical and experimental results are compared, using a proof-of-concept setup. Further investigations aimed at improving the sensor capabilities, were finally addressed. The elasticity of the sensor structure was exploited to enlarge both the measurement and the linearity range. An optimisation process was then implemented to find out an optimal thickness distribution of the sensor system in order to alleviate the strain level within the referred component.

  • The vehicle interior noise caused by exterior fluid flow field is one of critical issues for product developers in a design stage. Especially, turbulence and vortex flow around A-pillar and side mirror affect vehicle interior noise through a side window. The reliable numerical prediction of the noise in a vehicle cabin due to exterior flow requires distinguishing between the aerodynamic (incompressible) and the acoustic (compressible) surface pressures as well as accurate computation of surface pressure due to this flow, since the transmission characteristics of incompressible and compressible pressure waves are quite different from each other. In this paper, effective signal processing technique is proposed to separate them. First, the exterior flow field is computed by applying computational aeroacoustics techniques based on the Lattice Boltzmann method. Then, the wavenumber-frequency analysis is performed for the time-space pressure signals in order to characterize pressure fluctuations on the surface of a vehicle side window. The wavenumber-frequency diagrams of the power spectral density shows clearly two distinct regions corresponding to the hydrodynamic and the acoustic components of the surface pressure fluctuations. Lastly, decomposition of surface pressure fluctuation into incompressible and compressible ones is successfully accomplished by taking the inverse Fourier transform on the wavenumber-frequency diagrams.

  • 엇회전식 축류팬의 복잡한 유동특성을 이해하고 설계, 공력 해석 및 소음 특성 예측에 활용될 수 있는 3차원 비정상 유동장을 측정하였다. 엇회전식 축류팬의 3차원 비정상 유동장은 작동 영역인 설계점에서 $45^{\circ}$ 경사 열선을 이용하여 전단 동익의 전방, 전단 동익과 후단 동익 사이 그리고 후단 동익의 후방의 수직 유로 단면에서 측정되었다. 엇회전식 축류팬의 전단 동익과 후단 동익에 의해 발생되는 후류, 팁 와류 및 팁 누설 유동의 비정상 특성을 속도 벡터와 속도 윤곽을 통해 나타내었다.

Online condition assessment of high-speed trains based on Bayesian forecasting approach and time series analysis

  • High-speed rail (HSR) has been in operation and development in many countries worldwide. The explosive growth of HSR has posed great challenges for operation safety and ride comfort. Among various technological demands on high-speed trains, vibration is an inevitable problem caused by rail/wheel imperfections, vehicle dynamics, and aerodynamic instability. Ride comfort is a key factor in evaluating the operational performance of high-speed trains. In this study, online monitoring data have been acquired from an in-service high-speed train for condition assessment. The measured dynamic response signals at the floor level of a train cabin are processed by the Sperling operator, in which the ride comfort index sequence is used to identify the train's operation condition. In addition, a novel technique that incorporates salient features of Bayesian inference and time series analysis is proposed for outlier detection and change detection. The Bayesian forecasting approach enables the prediction of conditional probabilities. By integrating the Bayesian forecasting approach with time series analysis, one-step forecasting probability density functions (PDFs) can be obtained before proceeding to the next observation. The change detection is conducted by comparing the current model and the alternative model (whose mean value is shifted by a prescribed offset) to determine which one can well fit the actual observation. When the comparison results indicate that the alternative model performs better, then a potential change is detected. If the current observation is a potential outlier or change, Bayes factor and cumulative Bayes factor are derived for further identification. A significant change, if identified, implies that there is a great alteration in the train operation performance due to defects. In this study, two illustrative cases are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method for condition assessment of high-speed trains.

구형 탄환을 이용한 감자총의 설계, 해석 및 시험 (Design, Analysis and Experiment of Potato Gun with a Spherical Projectile)

  • 연소 및 추진 기관 공학 교육 과정의 일부로써 간단한 형태의 열기관인 감자총 (Potato Gun)의 제작, 시험 및 해석을 수행하였다. 정적 연소실의 화학 평형 해석을 이용하여 연소실의 압력을 계산하고, 팽창과정의 열역학 해석을 통하여 열에너지의 운동에너지로 변환되는 내탄도 과정을 계산하였다. 공기역학적 지식을 도입한 구형 탄도 궤적 해석을 통하여 비행거리를 추정할 수 있었으며, 이를 통하여 감자총의 에너지 변환 효율 및 혼합기의 당량비를 추정하였다. 본 과제는 재활용 자재를 이용하여 학부 수준에서 열-유체역학공학 지식을 활용하여 실습하고 학생들의 관심을 유발할 수 있는 적당한 예로 여겨진다.

가스터빈엔진 천이 성능 시험에 의한 정상상태 성능 예측 (Prediction of Gas Turbine Engine Steady Performance from Transient Performance Test)

  • 항공기용 가스터빈엔진에 대한 경제적인 시험 기법 개발을 위해 천이상태 성능 시험 결과로부터 정상상태 성능을 예측할 수 있는 방안을 모색하였다. 천이상태 성능과 정상상태 성능이 상이한 원인을 동역학적 천이 효과, 열적 천이 효과, 공기역학적 천이 효과로 구분하고, 각각을 모델링해서 엔진의 천이상태 성능을 통해 정상상태 성능을 계산하는 보정 인자를 정량화 하였다. 엔진 성능시험은 한국항공우주연구원이 보유한 고공환경시험설비에서 이루어졌다. 먼저 천이상태 성능시험 시 나타나는 엔진 입 출구의 온도 변화가 엔진 성능에 미치는 영향을 보정했으며, 그 후 도입된 보정 인자를 사용해 정상상태 성능을 예측하였다. 이렇게 예측된 결과와 실제 정상상태 성능시험 결과를 비교한 결과, 연료 소모량의 차이 3.68% 이내로 정상상태 성능을 예측할 수 있어, 본 연구에서 사용한 보정 기법이 상당한 정도의 정확도를 보장하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Wind-induced responses and dynamic characteristics of a super-tall building under a typhoon event

  • Wind measurements were made on the Canton Tower at a height of 461 m above ground during the Typhoon Vincente, the wind-induced accelerations and displacements of the tower were recorded as well. Comparisons of measured wind parameters at upper level of atmospheric boundary layer with those adopted in wind tunnel testing were presented. The measured turbulence intensity can be smaller than the design value, indicating that the wind tunnel testing may underestimate the crosswind structural responses for certain lock-in velocity range of vortex shedding. Analyses of peak factors and power spectral density for acceleration response shows that the crosswind responses are a combination of gust-induced buffeting and vortex-induced vibrations in the certain range of wind directions. The identified modal frequencies and mode shapes from acceleration data are found to be in good agreement with existing experimental results and the prediction from the finite element model. The damping ratios increase with amplitude of vibration or equivalently wind velocity which may be attributed to aerodynamic damping. In addition, the natural frequencies determined from the measured displacement are very close to those determined from the acceleration data for the first two modes. Finally, the relation between displacement responses and wind speed/direction was investigated.

고양력장치 설계 최적화 및 풍동시험 (High Lift Device Design Optimization and Wind Tunnel Tests)

  • 본 연구에서는 높은 양력을 얻기 위하여 플랩 형상 최적 설계를 시도하였다. 플랩 형태는 플랩 중에서 가장 효율이 좋은 파울러 플랩(fowler flap)이다. 플랩 설계는 최적화 기법을 활용하여 진행하였고 최적화의 초기 형상은 general aviation airfoil과 Wentz 등이 개발한 플랩이다. 최적화 방법으로는 반응면 기법 (Response Surface Method)이 사용되었으며, Hicks-Henne 형상함수가 사용되었고, GA(W)-1 익형과 fowler flap이 조합된 형상의 유동장에 대하여 Navier-Stokes 해석을 수행하였다. 상용 최적화 프로그램인 Visual-Doc, 격자 생성 프로그램인 Gambit/Tgrid, 그리고 유동해석에는 Fluent를 이용하였다. 플랩의 윗면 형상과 gap에 대한 최적화를 수행하여 착륙조건에서의 양력이 증가하였다. 초기 형상과 최적화된 형상의 공력특성 변화를 관찰하기 위하여 항우연의 1m 풍동에서 시험을 수행하였다. 최적화된 형상은 대체로 예측치와 비슷한 경향을 보이나, 이른 실속이 관찰되었다. 또한, 날개와 플랩 간의 간격을 설계치보다 좁혀 줌으로써 양력특성이 향상됨을 알 수 있었는데, 이는 설계시 사용된 난류 모델의 영향이라 판단된다.

Development of a Time-Domain Simulation Tool for Offshore Wind Farms

  • A time-domain simulation tool to predict the dynamic power output of wind turbines in an offshore wind farm was developed in this study. A wind turbine model consisting of first or second order transfer functions of various wind turbine elements was combined with the Ainslie's eddy viscosity wake model to construct the simulation tool. The wind turbine model also includes an aerodynamic model that is a look up table of power and thrust coefficients with respect to the tip speed ratio and pitch angle of the wind turbine obtained by a commercial multi-body dynamics simulation tool. The wake model includes algorithms of superposition of multiple wakes and propagation based on Taylor's frozen turbulence assumption. Torque and pitch control algorithms were implemented in the simulation tool to perform max-Cp and power regulation control of the wind turbines. The simulation tool calculates wind speeds in the two-dimensional domain of the wind farm at the hub height of the wind turbines and yields power outputs from individual wind turbines. The NREL 5MW reference wind turbine was targeted as a wind turbine to obtain parameters for the simulation. To validate the simulation tool, a Danish offshore wind farm with 80 wind turbines was modelled and used to predict the power from the wind farm. A comparison of the prediction with the measured values available in literature showed that the results from the simulation program were fairly close to the measured results in literature except when the wind turbines are congruent with the wind direction.

프로펠러 후류 간섭 효과를 고려한 투척식 무인기 롤 모멘트 예측 (Prediction of Rolling Moment for a Hand-Launched UAV Considering the Interference Effect of Propeller Wake)

  • 본 논문에서는 CFD 기법을 활용하여 전기체 형상의 투척식 무인기 형상에 대해 고속 회전하는 프로펠러와 그로 인해 생성된 후류 간섭 효과를 고려한 비정상 유동해석을 수행하였다. 또한 다양한 투척식 이륙 조건에서 롤 모멘트 평형에 요구되는 에일러론 타각을 정확하게 예측하기 위해 실제 조종면 회전을 고려한 유동해석이 수행되었다. 투척식 소형 무인기의 경우 초기 이륙상태에서 롤 안정성을 증대시키기 위해 적절한 초기 에일러론 설정을 활용하는 것이 유용한 방식이며, 구축된 공력 데이터베이스를 사용하여 다양한 이륙속도와 받음각 조건들에 대해 롤 모멘트를 상쇄시킬 수 있는 에일러론 타각 조건들이 빠르게 예측 가능함을 보였다.
