With the historical opening of the express rail, Korea has joined the league of France, Japan, Germany and Spain and entered into the super high-speed train era. Opening of the express rail will not only bring about enormous changes to the lives of Koreans, but it will also have a huge influence on the economic, social and cultural aspects of the country. With construction of the Seoul - Busan KTX line, railway passenger transportation capacity and freight transportation capacity will increase. Fast, safe, convenient and environmentally friendly, the express rail is a product of the latest technology and will secure its position as the newest and most preferred method of transportation for the next generation. As the traffic noise, train noise from KTX will become a social problems with the acceleration of speed and increase in the lines. In order to predict the train noise propagation from KTX, this paper presents the sound source system, the calculation model and the scale model experiment. Noise level unit patterns of a KTX that take the rolling noise, the motor noise and aerodynamic noise into consideration are simulated by the scale model experiment and numerical analysis.
In the present work, numerical simulations were conducted on the scaled model of the BWB type UCAV in the subsonic region using ANSYS FLUENT V15. The prediction method was validated through comparison with experimental results and the effect of the twisted wing was investigated. To consider the transitional flow phenomenon, ${\gamma}$ transition model based on SST model was adopted. The coefficients of lift, drag and pitching moment were compared with experimental results and the pressure distribution and streamlines were investigated. The twisted wing decreases the lift force but increases lift-to-drag ratio through delay of stall and leading edge vortex's movement to the front, also the non-linearity of the pitching moment is decreased.
Ice accretion on aircraft surface can greatly deteriorate the safety of aircraft. In particular, it can be a cause of impediment for aircraft performances such as aerodynamic characteristics, control, and engine. Numerical simulation of icing accretion based on the state-of-art CFD techniques can be alternative to expensive icing wind tunnel test or flight test. In this study, icing conditions are defined in order to predict the ice accretions around the air intake of aircraft. Then the range and amount of ice accretion on the intake in icing wind tunnel were investigated In addition, a study on the size effect of icing wind tunnel was conducted in order to check the compatibility with the real in-flight test environment.
Steady flow simulations through a high pressure turbine guide vanes were carried out. The main objective of the present work is to study the performance of turbulence models on the steady flow prediction from aerodynamic and aerothermal points of view. Three turbulence models were compared, namely SST, k-${\omega}$ and ${\omega}$-Reynolds stress models. The laminar results were also compared. The comparison was done with emphasis on the isentropic Mach number and heat transfer coefficient along the blade, and total pressure loss in the wake region. The calculated isentropic Mach number showed reasonable agreement with experimental data along the blade surface for all three turbulent models. For the total pressure loss in the wake region, ${\omega}$-Reynolds stress model showed the best agreement with the experimental data. However, unless using an appropriate transition model, the heat transfer coefficients of all three turbulent models showed poor agreement with experimental data.
The flap-lag-torsion coupled aeroelastic behavior of a hingeless rotor blade with composite flexures in hovering flight has been investigated by using the finite element method. The quasisteady strip theory with dynamic inflow effects is used to obtain the aerodynamic loads acting on the blade. The governing differential equations of motion undergoing moderately large displacements and rotations are derived using the Hamilton's principle. The flexures used in the present model are composed of two composite plates which are rigidly attached together. The lead-lag flexure is located inboard of the flap flexure. A mixed warping model that combines the St. Versant torsion and the Vlasov torsion is developed to describe the twist behavior of the composite flexure. Numerical simulations are carried out to correlate the present results with experimental test data and also to identify the effects of structural couplings of the composite flexures on the aeroelastic stability of the blade. The prediction results agree well with other experimental data. The effects of elastic couplings such as pitch-flap, pitch-lag, and flap-lag couplings on the stability behavior of the composite blades are also investigated.
A low-noise regenerative blower is developed for fuel cell application by combining the FANDAS-Regen code and design optimization algorithm under several performance constraints for flow capacity, static pressure, efficiency and power consumption. The optimized blower design model is manufactured with some impeller modification based on low noise design concept and tested by using aerodynamic performance chamber facility and narrow-band noise measurement apparatus. The measured results of the optimized blower satisfy the performance requirements and are also compared favorably with the FANDAS-Regen prediction results within a few percent relative error. Furthermore, the present study shows the remarkable noise reduction by 26 dBA can be achieved through design optimization and low noise design concept.
The internal broadband noise of a centrifugal fan in a household refrigerator is predicted by using hybrid CAA technique based on stochastic turbulent synthetic model. First, the unsteady flow field around the centrifugal fan is predicted using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. Then, the turbulent flow field is synthesized by applying the stochastic turbulent synthetic technique to the predicted flow field. The aerodynamic noise sources of the centrifugal fan are modeled on a basis of the synthesized turbulent field. Finally, the broadband noise of the centrifugal fan is predicted using Boundary Element Method (BEM) and the modeled sources. The predicted result is compared with the experimental data. It is found that the predicted result closely follows the experimental data. The proposed method can be used as an effective tool for designing low-noise fans without expensive computational cost required generally for the LES and DNS simulations to resolve the turbulence flow field responsible for the broadband noise.
A new method to calculate the aeroacoustic pressure of a centrifugal fan that is used in a vacuum cleaner has been developed. The centrifugal fan consists of the impeller, the diffuser, and the circular casing. Due to the high rotating speed of the impeller and the small gap distance between the impeller and diffuser, the centrifugal fan makes very high noise levels at BPF and its harmonic frequencies. In order to calculate the sound pressure of a centrifugal fan, the unsteady flow field data is needed. This unsteady flow field is calculated by the vortex method. The sound pressure is then calculated by acoustic analogy. In this paper, only dipole term is considered in the equation. The noise generated by moving impeller and stationary diffuser is calculated separately. The predicted acoustic pressures agree very well with the measured data. The difference between the two is less than 4dB
In this study, pitching stability derivatives of the conical shell configuration is predicted using commercial CFD code. Unsteady flow analysis with forced harmonic motion of the model is performed using overset mesh. The test is conducted about Basic finner missile configuration. The static and dynamic stability derivatives are good agreement with available experimental data. As the same way, a conical shell is analyzed in Mach number 1.6 and various reduced frequency. The static and dynamic derivatives are obtained from the time-pitching moment coefficient histories in each of four cases of mean angle of attack. The variation of reduced frequency is not affected static and dynamic derivatives. Increasing the mean angle of attack, static derivatives are increased slowly. Comparison of the Cm curves at the steady and unsteady state results shows that the Cm curve including the damping effect is lower than otherwise case, approximately 9-18 %.
