It has not been a long time since a comparative advertising was emphasized in the advertising industry and academics. The issue is whether comparative advertising is more effective than noncomparative advertising, and if it is true, then under what conditions it is more effective. Based upon previous research results and expertises' opinions, the authors try to figure out the hierarchy of comparative advertising effect and its determinants. The objective of this exploratory study is to develop a conceptual model on comparative advertising effect and research propositions. This model would provide us with broader understanding on comparative advertising, practical guidelines for comparative advertisement production, and foundations of developing more detailed model on comparative advertising effectiveness.

Brands have their own life cycles and exert a great influence on the marketing activities of companies. This study examines the marketing activities according to a brand life cycle and measures the scope of their performances. The research divides a fashion brand life cycle into three stages through the analysis of secondary data, and validates the causal relationship between marketing activities, brand equity, and consumer behavior according to the brand life cycle. A total of 573 responses were analyzed through a factor analysis, path analysis, and paired t-test with SPSS 12.0. The results are as follows: According to the analysis of the relationship between marketing mix and brand equity, distribution strategies are effective at the introduction/growth stage and the continuation stage. Advertisement strategies should be a main focus at the maturity stage for brand awareness. Throughout all the stages, product strategies wield the greatest influence on the brand image. Among brand equity components, the brand image has an influence on consumer behavior at every stage of the cycle while the brand awareness has no significant effect on consumer behavior. The marketing mix component that has the greatest impact on consumer behavior is product. Contrary to general expectations, price has a negative or insignificant effect on consumer behavior at every stage of the cycle. The results illustrated in this study help to understand the life cycle of fashion brands and characteristics different from consumer goods. Thus, fashion companies should identify at which stage their brands are positioned and develop different strategies to fit each stage.
This study examined the intake status of energy drinks and related factors among university students in Yeungnam region, Korea. A total of 456 students participated in the study by a self-administered questionnaire. About 26% of the respondents never took energy drinks, whereas about 30% took them previously, but do not take them now. Almost 45% answered that they have taken them up to now. The reasons for first intake of energy drinks were 'necessity for myself' followed by 'curiosity', 'recommendation of friends', and 'seeing advertisement', and Chi-square test showed that there was a significant difference according to dwelling status. About half of the respondents took them since high school, and the main reason for energy drink intake was 'to stay awake'. About 45% of the respondents indicated that they increased study hours after taking energy drinks, whereas almost 40% answered that they had little effect on them. Over half of the respondents experienced side effects after energy drink intake. About one-fifth of the respondents mixed the energy drinks with alcoholic beverages to make them taste better. In addition, in the result for the multinomial logistic regression analysis, gender, grade, dwelling status, smoking status, alcohol drinking status, perception of effect of energy drinks on health, and perception of benefit level of caffeine were the predictors for the respondents who never took energy drinks in comparison with the respondents who have taken them up to now. On the other hand, for the respondents who took them previously but do not take them now compared with those of having taken them up to now, the predictors were dwelling status and smoking status. These results imply that dietary education from childhood regarding knowledge and side effects of energy drinks should be offered.
This study aims at finding out major factors affecting the attitude, intention and behavior on Mobile advertising and figuring out what their differences between genders are. To do this, new variations such as personalization, permission and incentive are suggested, as well as variations proven by the previous studies. The findings show us that while entertainment, informativeness, credibility, personalization and permission had a positive effect on attitude toward Mobile advertising, irritation had a negative effect on it. Incentive had a positive influence on intention for mobile advertising. Attitude toward mobile advertising had a meaningful influence on intention, and the intention had a meaningful influence on behavior. At last it was revealed that gender difference has a meaningful influence. This study was carried out to find out the effects that evaluation variations have on attitude, intention and behavior on the nature of Mobile advertising. Therefore, it has a significance that gives a theoretical suggestion in that through its evaluation, some considerations are offered at the time of implementing the Mobile advertising, and the basic difference between genders can be explained as well.
232 internet sites in Yahoo and Empas were monitored to analyze what good contents of nutrition information on line have for the internet searchers. As the sites on line were disappeared frequently, all the monitored sites were selected on April 25, 2003. 3 disciplined personnels analyzed the contents of the selected sites by using self-developed monitoring format. The results are as follows. Most of sites were administered by the marketing companies and only 8% by public institutions, associations and school. Especially, most of the contents of the sites by marketing companies were advertisement about their goods instead of nutrition information. Only 42.6% of sites indicated the sources of nutrition information. Only 10.3% of site administrators responded about on-line questions quickly within 1 day. Moreover, 46% of sites were not conformed their answering periods. On the other hand, 94.8% of sites offered more than 1 feedback methods. Monitors checked purposes offering on-line informations plurally. Leading purpose was for advertising and marketing their goods(59.5%) and 47% of them were opened for offering food and nutrition information. They offered various informations at the same time. More than half of the sites had the menus for food and nutrition information and connected sites, but the other half of them only advertised their own goods. Positive sides from monitored informations were as follows : 'communicating informations easily' (8.7%) / 'definite informations for daily living' (7.2%) / 'beneficial informations for nutritional management' (4.6%) / 'new informations' (2.1%). Negative sides of offered information were ‘not enough to give scientific basis and/or to simplify special evidences too much’(60.8%) / ‘to exaggerate the contents’ (41.4%) / ‘not to indicate the notice of side effect and/or to advertise that there are not side effect from using their goods’ (34.1%).
Purpose - Previous studies on the influence of appeal types of advertising messages on pro-social behavior have shown inconsistent results. The purpose of this study is to examine whether the appeal type of advertising affects consumer's prosocial behavior. In particular, the authors investigated whether the social exclusion moderates the relationship between the appeal type of advertising and prosocial behavior. Research design, data and Methodology - To verify the hypothesis, two experimental study were conducted. The experimental study was 2(appeal type : self-benefit vs. other-benefit) by 2(social exclusion : being ignored vs. being rejected) between-subject design. Participants were randomly assigned to one of four conditions. The experiment was conducted using a computer. First, the participants was exposed to the advertising image used in the social campaign, and then responded to questions about social behavior. The participants completed the experiment after further responding to the item for manipulation check and demographic measure. The experiment took about 10 minutes in total. Results - In Study 1, a global warming campaign with participation intention variable, other-benefit ads rather than self-benefit ads drive consumers who feel socially rejected to be more willing and likely to participate, but consumers who feel socially ignored are more likely to participate the campaign in self-benefit ad than other-benefit ad. Study 2 replicates the findings, a child poverty relief campaign with an amount-to-donate variable: consumers who feel explicitly rejected allocate more dollars to the charity in response to other-benefit rather than self-benefit ads, but consumers who being ignored are willing to donate more money. Conclusion - This study has theoretical contribution in that it expands existing theories by explaining the existing inconsistent results of the message appeal influence on pro-social behavior through new control variables. In addition, the results have important managerial implications, suggesting marketers should tailor their marketing message to match the consumer situation.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of sympathetic reactions to public service advertisement video messages produced for health campaigns. To this end, based on the empathy response scale proposed by Campbell & Babrow (2004), the empathy response to the images of nine health campaigns with themes of smoking cessation, tuberculosis, and suicide triggered fear of health risks and health behaviors (information seeking, preventive actions). As a result of the analysis, among the factors of empathy reaction, the reality of the message creative, the match of emotions, and the identification of the characters in the video each played a role in raising fear, and it is rather fear that logically understanding the situation that causes health problems through the health campaign video It was found that it played a role in reducing health information seeking behavior. On the other hand, it was found that the higher the degree of interest, such as sympathy for the characters in the video, among the factors of the sympathetic response to the health campaign, the higher the intention of preventive action to reduce the health risk.
