Recently, our circumstances are threatened by an accident that leakage of under ground storage tank and illegal dumping of synthetic organic compounds at chemical plants and many treatment methods, Activated carbon adsorption, Ozonization, Membrane filtration and Photocatalystic oxidation, are developed to remove such a synthetic organic compounds. And it has reported that Activated carbon adsorption have a great removal efficiency to nondegradable matters and organic compounds which have a high molecular weight. Comparing with other adsorbents, Activated carbon adsorption have a worse efficiency when ad desorption speed is low. Thus improved type of adsorbents was invented and one of those is Activated Carbon Filter. The purpose of this study was getting information about adsorption characteristic phenol which can be applied Activated Carbon Fiber and Granular Activated Carbon. In detail, With comparing removal characteristics of phenol in the presence Humic Acid using Activated Carbon Fiber(ACF) and Granular Activated. Carbon(GAC), it is to certify an effective application of Activated Carbon Fiber. At the range of this study, Batch test, Isotherm adsorption test and Factorial analysis, following conclusion were obtained from the results of this study. Batch test was carried to know time of adsorption equilibrium. In this study about time of adsorption equilibrium by ACF was faster than GAC's, for developed micropore of ACF. From the result of phenol adsorption test, High removal rate of adsorption is shown at pH 5. The result of lsotherm adsorption test, it has represented that the Freundlich's isotherm is most suitable one in others, that a ACF's adsorption capacity is more excellent than GAC's. Adsorption of phenol exiting humic acid is decreased getting raised humic acid concentration. Since ACF's micropore is developed at this time, an effect of high molecular humic acid is lower. Factorial analysis was carried to know about Main effect which was injection dosage of adsorbent in the range of this study.
The constant correlation factors between the Temkin and the Langmuir or the Frumkin adsorption isotherms of over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H) for the cathodic H2 evolution reaction (HER) at poly-Pt and Re/0.5M $H_2SO_4$ and poly-Ni/0.05 M KOH aqueous electrolyte interfaces have been experimentally and consistently found using the phase-shift method. At intermediate values of the fractional surface coverage $(\theta),\;i.e.,\;02<{\theta}<0.8$, the Langmuir and Temkin adsorption isotherms of OPD H for the cathodic HER are correlated to each other even though the adsorption conditions or processes are different from each other. At the same range of $\theta$, correspondingly, the Frumkin and Temkin adsorption isotherms of OPD H for the cathodic HER are correlated to each other. The equilibrium constants $(K_o)$ for the Temkin adsorption isotherms $({\theta}\;vs.\; E)$ are consistently ca. 10 times greater than those (K, Ko) for the corresponding Langmuir or Frumkin adsorption isotherms ($({\theta}\;vs.\; E)$. The interaction parameters (g) for the Temkin adsorption isotherms $({\theta}\;vs.\; E)$ are consistently ra. 4.6 greater than those (g) for the corresponding Langmuir or Frumkin adsorption isotherms $({\theta}\;vs.\; E)$. These numbers (10 times and 4.6) can be taken as constant correlation factors between the corresponding adsolftion isotherms (Temkin, Langmuir, Frumkin) at the interfaces. The Temkin adsorption isotherm corresponding to the Langmuir or the Frumkin adsorption isotherm, and vice versa, can be effectively verified or confirmed using the constant correlation factors. Both the phase-shift methodand constant correlation factors are useful and effective for determining or confirming the suitable adsorption isotherms (Temkin, Langmuir, Frumkin) of intermediates for sequential reactions in electrochemical systems.
Altered Langmuir adsorption isotherm has been suggested for adsorption reactions occurring in aqueous environment based upon the concept of the steric displacement between adsorbates and water molecules at the surface of adsorbent. For the adsorption of $Cd^{2+}$ on activated carbon, the suggested adsorption isotherm was shown to be more well applied to the experimental results compared with the classical Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Based on this, regarding the adsorption system which following the Langmuir model more precise design and controllable operation of the process were considered to be attainable when the adsorption process is analyzed employing the altered adsorption isotherm.
The maximum adsorption/desorption conditions and the adsorption mechanism of globular proteins to vaccine adjuvants were determined. The maximum adsorption ratio of protein to the $Al^{3+}$ content of aluminum oxyhydroxide and the optimal adsorption pH are 2:1 (${\mu}g:{\mu}g$) for bovine serum albumin (BSA) at pH 6.0 and 2.5:1 (${\mu}g:{\mu}g$) for immunoglobulin G (IgG) at pH 7.0, respectively. The maximum adsorption ratio onto aluminum phosphate gel was 1.5:1 (${\mu}g$ Protein:${\mu}g$$Al^{3+}$) at pH 5.0 for both BSA and IgG. Adsorption of the native globular proteins, BSA and IgG, to aluminum oxyhydroxide and aluminum phosphate gel was reversible as a function of pH. Complete desorption of these proteins from aluminum phosphate gel was observed at alkaline pH, whereas only 80~90% removal from aluminum oxyhydroxide was achieved with alkaline pH and 50 mM phosphate buffer. We conclude that electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions between the native proteins and adjuvants are important binding mechanisms for adsorption, and that the surface charge of the protein and the colloid components control the maximum adsorption conditions.

In this study, an innovative media, iron mixed ceramic pellet (IMCP) has been developed for arsenic (As) removal from groundwater. A porous, solid-phase IMCP (2-3 mm) was manufactured by combining clay soil, rice bran, and Fe(0) powder at $600^{\circ}C$. Both the As(III) and As(V) adsorption characteristics of IMCP were studied in several batch experiments. Structural analysis of the IMCP was conducted using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analysis to understand the mechanism of As removal. The adsorption of As was found to be dependent on pH, and exhibited strong adsorption of both As(III) and As(V) at pH 5-7. The adsorption process was described to follow a pseudo-second-order reaction, and the adsorption rate of As(V) was greater than that of As(III). The adsorption data were fit well with both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. The maximum adsorption capacities of As(III) and As(V) from the Langmuir isotherm were found to be 4.0 and 4.5 mg/g, respectively. Phosphorus in the water had an adverse effect on both As(III) and As(V) adsorption. Scanning electron microscopy results revealed that iron(III) oxides/hydroxides are aggregated on the surface of IMCP. XAFS analysis showed a partial oxidation of As(III) and adsorption of As(V) onto the iron oxide in the IMCP.
Haloacetonitriles (HANs) are nitrogenous disinfection by-products (DBPs) that have been reported to have a higher toxicity than the other groups of DBPs. The adsorption process is mostly used to remove HANs in aqueous solutions. Functionalized composite materials tend to be effective adsorbents due to their hydrophobicity and specific adsorptive mechanism. In this study, the removal of dichloroacetonitrile (DCAN) from tap water by adsorption on thiol-functionalized mesoporous composites made from natural rubber (NR) and hexagonal mesoporous silica (HMS-SH) was investigated. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results revealed that the thiol group of NR/HMS was covered with NR molecules. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated an expansion of the hexagonal unit cell. Adsorption kinetic and isotherm models were used to determine the adsorption mechanisms and the experiments revealed that NR/HMS-SH had a higher DCAN adsorption capacity than powered activated carbon (PAC). NR/HMS-SH adsorption reached equilibrium after 12 hours and its adsorption kinetics fit well with a pseudo-second-order model. A linear model was found to fit well with the DCAN adsorption isotherm at a low concentration level.
Adsorption experiment was carried out to find the adsorption capacity and characteristics of heavy metals(Cd, Pb) onto soil and mixed soil with food compost. Result showed that mixed soil having higher organic content adsorbed more heavy metal than soil, indicating that food compost can be used effectively to prevent soil pollution. Linear adsorption isotherm which adopted to find the adsorption characteristics was used to calculate Retardation Factor(R). The value of Retardation Factor(R)s of Pb and Cd in mixed soil, found as 34.54, 24.42 respectively, are higher than those in soil which were found as 4.64, 3.67, respectively. The value of Retardation Factor(R) using Freundlich adsorption isotherm could be presented by the functions of concentration and showed similar result as the linear one. But Freundlich adsorption isotherm showed higher relationship than linear one and the retardation factor(R) from freundlich adsorption isotherm was thought as more effective method to assess adsorption capacity because it could reflect gradient and intercept of the isotherm.
In this work, activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were plated with copper metal using electroless plating method and the effects of surface properties and pore structures on chromium adsorption properties were investigated. Surface properties of ACFs have been characterized using pH and acid/base values. BET data with $N_2$ adsorption were used to obtain the structural parameters of ACFs. The electroless copper plating did significantly lead to a decrease in the surface acidity or to an increase in the surface basicity of ACFs. However, all of the samples possessed a well-developed micropore. The adsorption capacity of Cr(III) for the electroless Cu-plated ACFs was higher than that of the as-received, whereas the adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) for the former was lower than that of the latter. The adsorption rate constants ($K_1$, $K_2$, and $K_3$) were also evaluated from chromium adsorption isotherms. It was found that $K_1$ constant for Cr(III) adsorption depended largely on surface basicity. The increase of Cr(III) adsorption and the decrease of Cr(VI) adsorption were attributed to the formation of metal oxides on ACFs, resulting in increasing the surface basicity.
In this study, the adsorption of toxic pollutants onto cetyltrimethylammonium kaolin (CTAB-Kaolin) is investigated. The organo-kaolin is synthesized by exchanging cetyltrimethylammonium cations (CTAB) with inorganic ions on the surface of kaolin. The chemical analysis, the structural and textural properties of kaolin and CTAB-kaolin were investigated using elemental analysis, FTIR, SEM and adsorption of nitrogen at $-196^{\circ}C$. The kinetic adsorption and adsorption capacity of the organo-kaolin towards o-xylene, phenol and Cu(II) ion from aqueous solution was investigated. The kinetic adsorption data of o-xylene, phenol and Cu(II) are in agreement with a second order model. The equilibrium adsorption data were found to fit Langmuir equation. The uptake of o-xylene and phenol from their aqueous solution by kaolin, CTAB-kaolin and activated carbon proceed via physisorption. The removal of Cu(II) ion from water depends on the surface properties of the adsorbent. Onto kaolin, the Cu(II) ions are adsorbed through cation exchange with $Na^+$. For CTAB-kaolin, Cu(II) ions are mainly adsorbed via electrostatic attraction with the counter ions in the electric double layer ($Br^-$), via ion pairing, Cu(II) ions removal by the activated carbon is probably related to the carbon-oxygen groups particularly those of acid type. The adsorption capacities of CTAB-kaolin for the investigated adsorbates are considerably higher compared with those of unmodified kaolin. However, the adsorption capacities of the activated carbons are by far higher than those determined for CTAB-kaolin.
Manufacturing process of OLED contains adsorption-desorption process of glass substrate. There are several adsorption methods of glass substrate such as atmospheric pressure, vacuum and electrostatic adsorption. However, these methods are very complex to connect system. Therefore, the adsorption method using silicone rubber based sticking chuck was proposed in this study. Three types of silicone rubbers having 0, 19.3 and 32.2 wt% of fluorine were used and their mechanical properties, surface energies and adsorption properties were examined. According to the results ${\sigma}_{300}$ and hardness increased with increasing fluorine contents, but elongation was decreased. Also, fluorosilicone rubber containing 32.2 wt% of fluorine showed the lowest surface tension, among three types of rubber and resulted in the highest initial tack with glass substrate. After the adsorption-desorption test of 300,000 cycles was performed, the adsorption force of S-1 (silicone rubber) decreased largely from 2.34 to 0.73 MPa. However, the S-3 (fluorosilicone rubber having 32.2 wt%. of fluorine) decreased only from 3.15 to 2.24 MPa. From this study, we obtained the valuable equations related to long term durability of silicone based sticking chuck. Finally the transfer of silicone rubber to glass substrate with the adsorption-desorption process was not occurred and this phenomenon was examined by UV-Visible spectroscopy.
