  • In this study, experimental tests of chemical and autogenous shrinkage were performed to evaluate the early age shrinkage behaviors of ultra high performance cementitious composites (UHPCC) with various replacement ratios of silica fume (SF), shrinkage reducing agent (SRA), expansive admixture (EA), and superplasticizer (SP). Starting time of self-desiccation, was analyzed by comparing the setting times and the deviated point of chemical and autogenous shrinkage strains. The test results indicated that both SF and SRA augment the early age chemical shrinkage, whereas SP delays the hydration reaction between cement particles and water, and reduces chemical shrinkage. About 49% of autogenous shrinkage was depleted by synergetic effect of SRA and EA. The hardening of UHPCC was catalyzed by containing EA. Self-desiccation of UHPCC occurred prior to the initial setting due to the high volume fraction of fibers and low water-binder ratio (W/B).

  • As recent concrete products changed to pursue high class, high quality, and high strength, as translucent concrete was developed to meet esthetic effects and exhibition purpose of structures. This study aims at introducing fabrication methods of various shapes of translucent concrete and evaluating feasibility of using mineral admixture such as fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag and granulated glass throughout experimental tests. As the result, it was found that compressive strength of translucent concrete block at 28 days is 32.2MPa and higher elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio than ordinary concrete block, which means that translucent concrete is widely applicable to structural purpose. Application of fly ash as a replacement of cement showed lower strength of 85 to 96% than Portland cement. In the meanwhile, ground granulated blast furnace slag showed 82 to 96% depending on the amount of replacement. The use of granulated glass as replacement of optical fiber was not applicable due to invisibility of light in concrete.

  • The service life evaluation in RC(Reinforced Concrete) structure exposed to chloride attack can be classified into deterministic and probabilistic method, and it significantly varies with design parameters. The present work derives PDF (Probability of Durability Failure) and the related service life considering time-dependent diffusion coefficient and internal parameters such as reference diffusion coefficient, critical chloride content, and time-exponent. When critical chloride content increases to 133.3%, the changing ratios of service life are 134.0~145.4% for deterministic method and 149.2%~152.5% for probabilistic method, respectively. In the case of increasing time-exponent to 200%, they increase to 323.8% for deterministic method and 346.0% for probabilistic method. Through adopting time-diffusion coefficient for probabilistic method, reasonable service life evaluation can be achieved, and it is also verified that increasing time-exponent through mineral admixture is very effective to extension of service life in RC structure.

  • The enzymic activities of Kojis which were prepared by the various combination of raw-materials, soybean and barley, were measured and the ripening process of soybean paste made from the kojis was pursued. 1). The koji made by the admixture of soybean, barley and wheat at the ratio of 40-60 : 60-40:20 was superior to the Kojis made from soybean or barley alone, in the aspect of dextrinizing, saccharifying and proteolytic activities. 2). The soybean paste mashed with the admixed koji with higher enzymic activities caused the more and rapid formation of reducing sugars and proteolysis than the soybean pate from barley-koji. 3). The effect of salt on the activities of ${\alpha}-amylase$, saccharification and proteases was examined and it was noticed that the three was inhibited to the different extent respectively.

  • The permitted limit, ${\pm}12%$, of the change in solid contents based on ASTM C 494 as an interim standard in Korea Expressway Corporation, can not reflect the kind of chemical admixture and the characteristics of solid content so that it differed depending on the admixture types. In this study, effect of cement concrete quality was investigated by solid changes which can be used chemical admixtures acceptance criteria. As a result of an evaluation of a change in the quality of concrete due to solid content, since Ligno-sulfonate based (LG) had a low water reducing ratio, the range of the change in solid content was great while Naphthalene sulfonated based (PNS) and Poly-carboxylate based (PC) High Range Water-reducing Admixtures (HRWR) had a high water reducing ratio, the permitted limit of the difference in solid content currently used as the acceptance criterion should be readjusted. As a result, it is found that the acceptable range must be managed within 10% and 5% when the solid contents less than 25% and more than 25%, respectively.

  • This study was conducted to investigate some effects of Cemesol on acidresistance and compressive strength of concrete. In mix design of concrete, the cemesol was used as an admixture of cement, and it was added to the mix in an amount equal to 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, and 0.4% by weight of cement of the mix. Concrete specimens were made in accordance with the. Korean Standard Specification for concrete and they were tested for acid-resistance and compressive strength at 2 weeks intervals through 8 weeks. The tests were performed in two cases non-curing and curing for 28 days. The results obtained from the tests are summarized as follows. 1. Refering to acid-resistance test, the cemesol was comparatively effective at every cemesol content except 0.3% in case of non-curing and it was found that cemesol content of 0.4% was the optimum. On the other hand, the cemesol was ineffective in case of curing, but it was seen that cemesol content of 0.1% had some effect at 6 to 8 weeks curing only. 2. Refering to compressive strength test, the cemesol was remarkably effective at a content of 0.1% but it was also shown most inefiective at content of 0.3% in case of non-curing. On the other hand the cemesol was comparatively effective at every content of cemesol except a content of 0.2% in case of curing and it was determined that the cemesol content of 0.3% may be an optimum content. 3. Since optimum cemesol content varied according to acid-resistance, compressive strength and cases such as non-curing and curing, as indicated above may be desirable to choose an optimum cemesol content suitable for purposes and ciroumstances of construction works or conditions of location. 4. The corrosive rate was proportional to compressive strength in case of non-curing, but the relation was reversed in case of curing. It was found that corrosive rate for 8 weeks did not influence compressive strength in case of non-curing but compressive strength in case of curing begins to vary under the influence of corrosion. Thus, corrosion may be more serious to compressive strength in case of curing than that in case of non-curing.

  • The disposal of constructive waste is emerging as a national and social issue and the recycled powder generated by the production of reproductive aggregate is all being abolished or buried Analysis on the harmful effect of recycled powder indicated that because it contained massive cytotoxicity, it could derive secondary pollution to soil and subterranean water. This study set on an idea that one way to recycle recycled powder was to use it as a compound of concrete. In order to study that prospect, recycled powder, instead of cement, was mixed and a comparative analysis was conducted on the mechanical properties and workability. From experimental results, it was judged that application of recycled powder of cement replacement ratio below 20% was available with chemical admixtures. Also application of recycled powder was available to high strength concrete.

  • This paper reports the physical and shrinkage properties of concrete using expansive additive(E) and three shrinkage reducing admixtures(SRA1, 2, 3) in order to reduce shrinkage of concrete. For the properties of fresh concrete, the use of SRA1, 2, 3 results in a increase in fluidity and decrease in the dosage of super plasticizer as much as 0.05$\sim$0.1%. And For the properties of hardened concrete, the use of SRA1, 2, 3 results in a decrease in compressive, tensile and flexural strength slightly. For drying shrinkage properties, the use of SRA3 is the most effective for reduction of shrinkage, and the next best way to reduce shrinkage is combination with expansive additive(E) and shrinkage reducing admixture(SRA) or the using of expansive additive(E).

  • As super.high.strength concrete uses a large amount of binder, there is an autogenous shrinkage strain larger than dry shrinkage and it degrades the quality of structures. Thus, we need a technology to minimize the shrinkage strain of super.high.strength concrete. Accordingly, the present study prepared super.high strength concrete with design strength of over 80MPa and, using an embedded gauge, measured the shrinkage strain of free shrinkage specimens for super.high.strength concrete containing expansion agent. According to the results of this study, the expansion rate of concrete increased in the early stage due to the admixture of expansion agent, but the shrinkage rate went down with the lapse of time. The effect of the admixture of expansion agent on compressive strength appeared insignificant. Further research shall be made on different kinds of expansion agents and various mixture ratios for basic analysis to reduce autogenous shrinkage of super.high.strength concrete.
