A study of "administration time in herbal medicine" (한약의 복용시간에 관한 고찰)

  • Objectives : There are many causes that may affect efficacy of a drug but the time of administration for the Herbal Medicine is among the most important factors. Traditionally, administration of medicine was prohibited during the meal time along with food and the time of administration has been highly regarded in medical practitioners. The rules of administration time are stated in a book titled, "Materia Medica" but it lacked the details and index. Thus, the systemized administration rules for Herbal Medicine were prepared. Methods : The rules were drawn from both ancient teachings and the experiences from modern clinics. Ancient teachings about the administration are focused on treatment of a disease by utilizing biorhythm of the body in accordance of changes in Yin and Yang and Day and Night. Results : It means the medicine should be prepared and administered at the appropriate time of the day and this type of administration method is thought to be superior to the western method such as "once a day" or "twice a day in the morning and evening" that does not take consideration of cold, hot, warm and cool properties of the medicine. If the prescription is assigning appropriate medicine, administration time is an important method of maximizing drug efficacy. Conclusion : With the ancient teaching in mind, it was concluded that, the drug administration time must be determined with regard to properties of the drug and the condition of the patient.

The Anesthetic Effects of the Epidural Administration of Tiletamin-Zolazepam and Lidocaine in Rats (흰쥐에서 Tiletamine-Zolazepam 및 Lidocaine의 경막외투여시의 마취 효과)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the anesthetic effects of the epidural administration of tiletamin-zolazepam and lidocaine to rats. Blood pressure, heart rate, respiratoty rate and blood chemistry were examined according to the time lapse, after the administration of tiletamine-zolazepam, lidocaine or saline. The results obtained were as follows. 1, Tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed fast anesthesia onset time (p<0.01) and also revealed prolonged ambulation time compared with lidocaine group (p<0.01). 2. In the effects of blood pressure, tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed significantly higher value than lidocaine group or saline group, and revealed the highest value at 20 minutes after administration. According to the time lapse, blood pressure of tiletamine-zolazepam group was recovered and showed similar value with lidocaine group and control group at 90 minutes after administration. 3. In the effects of heart rate, tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed significantly lower value than lidocaine group or saline group and revealed the lowest value at 30 minutes after administration, and recovered similar value with pre-administration at 90 minutes after administration. 4. In the effects of respiratory rate, lidocaine group revealed significantly lower value at 30 minutes administration compared with 0 and 60 minutes after administration (p<0.01). Tiletamine-zolazepam group also revealed significantly lower value at 30 minutes compared with 0 and 60 minutes after administration (p<0.01). The changes at 60 minutes after administration, lidocaine group revealed lower value than saline or tiletamine-zolazepam group, and tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed similar value with 0 minutes. 5. In the effects of tidal volume, lidocaine group revealed significantly lower value than saline group (p<0.001) and tiletamine-zolazepam group also revealed lower value than saline group, at 30 minutes after administration. The values at 60 minutes after administration, revealed similar results with that of 30 minutes after administration. 6. In the blood chemistry, the values of alanine transminase (ALT), aspartate transminase(AST) and creatinine did not reveal significant results at 60 minutes after administration. The values of ALT at 60 minutes slightly decreased compared with pre-administration, and revealed normal level.

Effect of Prostaglandin $F_2\alpha$ Administration on the Luteal Cell of Korean Native Cattle (Prostaglandin $F_2\alpha$의 투여가 한우황체의 조직상에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out to observe early morphological changes of luteal cells in Korean native cattle treated with prostaglandin F2$\alpha$. Twenty five gram of prostaglandin F2$\alpha$ was administrated per cow at 10 days after ovulation and luteal cells were removed 30, 60, 120 and 180 minites after administration. Morphological changes of each luteal cell was observed by electron microscope. the results obtained were summarized as followings: 1. Many electron-dense granules were observed in luteal cells obtained from control cow but those granules were decreased rapidly after 30 minutes of administration and no granules were obresved after 180 minutes of administration. 2. In control, the shape of mitochondria were begining to collapse from the time of 60 minutes after administration. After 180 minutes of administration, mitochondria were swelled extreamly. 3. Lipid droplets in luteal cell were increased in its size and number with the duration of time after administration. 4. Shape of smooth endoplasmic recticulum was vesicular and its dimension and number were increased according to time course after administration.

A Longitudinal Study on Farm Householder's Perception of Economic Problem (전업${\cdot}$겸업 농가의 가정 내 경제문제 인지의 변화)

  • This study focused on the trends in recognising an economic concern as the most difficult problem in the farm household that was categorised as a full-time farm household or a part-time household according to income structure from agricultural activity. Log-linear models were suggested to compare the change of recognising an economic problem between year 2003 and 2005. As a result, there was no significant difference in recognising an economic problem between full-time farm household and part-time farm household both in 2003 ($x^2$=0.04;p=0.84) and in 2005 ($x^2$=1.08; p=0.30). It was revealed, however, that full-time farm household had increasingly recognised an economic problem over years. Log-linear models showed that full-time farm households tended to recognise the economic problem 1.11 times as much as part-time farm households in 2005, compared to 0.97 times in 2003.

Comparison on Efficacy of Administration Time of Levothyroxine in Patients with Hypothyroidism: A Meta-analysis (갑상선 기능 저하 환자에서 levothyroxine 투여 시간에 따른 효능 비교: 메타분석)

  • Background: Levothyroxine is an essential drug for the treatment of hypothyroidism or related diseases. Several studies have reported an association between the effects of levothyroxine treatment and time of administration, which can be inconsistent. Objective: This study was conducted to compare the levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone or free thyroxine between morning and nighttime dosing of levothyroxine. Methods: We reviewed previously reported relevant articles and conducted a meta-analysis. Results: In total, five studies were included in this meta-analysis. Results showed that thyroid-stimulating hormone (standard difference in means [SE]=0.321; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.016 to 0.657) and free thyroxine (SE= -1.367; 95% CI, -2.943 to 0.210) levels did not differ significantly between morning (before breakfast) and nighttime (before bedtime) administration. Conclusion: This is the first meta-analysis to evaluate the effects of time of administration on levothyroxine levels in patients with hypothyroidism. Based on our results, we suggest considering patients' lifestyles or daily routines when counselling them on the optimal time of administration for levothyroxine.

Effects of Jakyakgamchotang extract on the Analgesic effect in Mice (작약감초탕(芍藥甘草湯) 및 구성약물(構成藥物)이 진통(鎭痛)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • This study was designed to elucidate the analgesic effects of Jakyakgamchotang and Radix paeinia, Radix Glycyrrhiziae which are the component of Jakyakgamchotang in mice. The analgesic effects were measured by the Whittle's method and hot plate method. The results were as follows ; After the administration of Jakyakgamchotang extrace, the frequency of writhing syndrome was significantly inhibited. After the administration of Radix paeinia extract, the frequency of writhing syndrome was significantly inhibited. After the administration of Radix Glycyrrhiziae extract, the frequency of writhing syndrome was significantly inhibited. After the administration of Jakyakgamchotang extrace, paw licking time and escape time were significantly prolonged. After the administration of Radix paeinia extract, paw licking time was significantly prolonged. After the administration of Radix Glycyrrhiziae extract, paw licking time was significantly prolonged. It is concluded that the analgesic effects of Jakyakgamchotang were found to be more effective than Radix paeinia and Radix Glycyrrhiziae.

Statistical Analysis of Determining Optimal Monitoring Time Schedule for Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI) (작물 수분 스트레스 지수 산정을 위한 최적의 관측 간격과 시간에 대한 통계적 분석)

  • Continuous and tremendous data (canopy temperature and meteorological variables) are necessary to determine Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI). This study investigated the optimal monitoring time and interval of canopy temperature and meteorological variables (air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation and wind speed) to determine CWSIs. The Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficient (NSE) was used to quantitatively describe the accuracy of sampling method depending upon various time intervals (t=5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 60 minutes) and CWSIs per every minute were used as a reference. The NSE coefficient of wind speed was 0.516 at the sampling time of 60 minutes, while the ones of other meteorological variables and canopy temperature were greater than 0.8. The pattern of daily CWSIs increased from 8:00 am, reached the maximum value at 12:00 pm, then decreased after 2:00 pm. The statistical analysis showed that the data collection at 11:40 am produced the closest CWSI value to the daily average of CWSI, which indicates that just one time of measurement could be representative throughout the day. Overall, the findings of this study contributes to the economical and convenient method of quantifying CWSIs and irrigation management.

Effects of Organophosphorous Insecticides on Mice Cholinesterase Activity (유기린계 살충제가 흰쥐의 Cholinesterase활성에 미치는 영향)

  • Changes in cholinesterase (ChE) activity, electrophoretic pattern of ChE and histopathologic state on the mice serum, brain and liver by administration of organophos-phorous insecticides were studied. The mice ChE activities on serum, brain and liver decreased by increasing of concentration and time both administration of malathion and DDVP, whereas on serum and brain the activities of the 7 days after administration decreased, and then presented the gradually slight recovery in course of time. The ChE on serum and liver showed many isozyme bands by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis but several on brain. And isozyme bands disappeared and diffused by administration of organophosphorous insecticides and development of time. The mice liver with administration group of malathion on histopathologic test showed midzonal necrosis between central vein and portal area, and with administration group of DDVP mainly presented portal necrosis on location of potal area.

  • The objective of this study was to enhance the pregnancy rate of repeat-breeder Hanwoo with gonadotropin-releasing hormone(Gn-RH) at the time, dose and site of administration.The results obtained were summaried as fallows:1.Ovulation time and pregnancy rate following GnRH administration time was 46.0, 27.4, 42.0 and 43.2hr and 33.3, 57.1, 37.5 and 40.0% at non-treatment, estus, 1st A' and 2nd Al treatment, respectively.2. Ovulation in repeat-breeder was induced 100% within 24hr with GnRH administration at the time of estrus.3. Ovulation time and pregnancy rate following GnRH adminstration dose and site was 25.2, 32.6, 17.6 and 27.6hr, and 28.6, 42.9, 75.0 and 66.7% at 50$\mu$g+IU, 50$\mu$g+IM, 100$\mu$g+IU and 100$\mu$g+IM treatments, respectively. It is concluded that GnRH administration for repeat-breeder was enhanced the pregnancy rate when treated with 100$\mu$g intrauterine at the time of estrus.

Pharmacokinetics of Ethanol After Oral Administration of Aspartate-Containing Compositions (Aspartate함유 복합성분과 Ethanol의 약물동태학적 거동)

  • The purpose of this work was to investigate pharmacokinetics of alcohol as a function of dose and time of administration of ethanol. The pharmacokinetics of alcohol 15 min after and before oral administration of aspartate-containing compositions to rats were also evaluated. The retention time of acetaldehyde, alcohol and isopropyl alcohol an internal standard in gas chromatogram was 3.6, 6.0 and 10.5 min, respectively. The maximum concentration of alcohol $(C_{max})$ and area under the blood concentration (AUC) were significanly increased as a function of ethanol dose in a nonlinear fashion. The significant diurnal variation of alcohol pharmacokinetics was also noted, showing fast metabolism and elimination when given orally in the night time. When APAP was given after administration alcohol (1g/kg) to rats, AUC and $C_{max}$ were increased when compared to alcohol only. However, AUC and $C_{max}$ were decreased when aspartate or standard complex compositions containing aceaminophen (APAP, 250mg). sodium L-aspartate(25 mg), dl-methionine (125 mg) and anhydrous caffeine (25 mg) was orally given by coupling malate/asparate shuttle in hepatocyte. The blood alcohol concentration profiles between aspartate and standard complex compositions were similar when given before or after administration alcohol (1g/kg) to rats. No significant difference of administration sequence was observed. However, it was noted that AUC and $C_{max}$ of standard complex compositions given before alcohol administration were significantly lower when compared with alcohol only. Based on these findings, dose, time of administration and composition of drugs to improve alcohol metabolism and elimination were considered to be important in the pharmacokinetics of alcohol. The administration sequence of drug compositions and alcohol might be also considerd.
