Dietary intake and food sources of essential fatty acids among Korean adolescents: a cross-sectional study based on the 2016-2021 KNHANES data

  • Objectives: This study evaluated dietary intake and food sources of essential fatty acids in Korean adolescents. Methods: This study was comprised of 3,932 adolescents (9-18 years) who participated in the 2016-2021 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys. Dietary intake and food sources of essential fatty acids, including alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and linoleic acid (LA) were evaluated using data obtained from one-day 24-hour dietary recall. The proportions of adolescents consuming ALA, EPA + DHA, and LA above or below the adequate intake (AI) of the 2020 Dietary Reference Intakes for Koreans were calculated. All statistical analyses accounted for the complex sampling design effect and appropriate sample weights. Results: The mean intakes of ALA, EPA, DHA, and LA among Korean adolescents were 1.29 g/day, 69.6 mg/day, 166.0 mg/day, and 11.1 g/day, respectively. Boys had higher intakes of all essential fatty acids compared to girls. By age group, adolescents aged 15-18 years showed lower intakes of EPA and DHA compared to adolescents in younger age groups. The 9-11-year-old adolescents had lower intakes of ALA and LA than older adolescents. The proportions of adolescents who consumed more than AI were 35.7% for ALA, 30.4% for EPA + DHA, and 41.5% for LA. Adherence to the AI for ALA did not differ by sex or age group, although boys showed a lower adherence to the AI for EPA + DHA than girls. Major food sources for ALA and LA were plant-based oils, mayonnaise, pork, and eggs. Mackerel was the most significant contributor to EPA and DHA intake (EPA, 22.6%; DHA, 22.2%), followed by laver, squid, and anchovy. Conclusions: The proportion of Korean adolescents who consumed EPA + DHA more than AI was low. Our findings highlight that nutrition education emphasizing an intake of essential fatty acids from healthy food sources is needed among Korean adolescents.

외래치료 명령제의 실효성과 외래 치료 순응도에 관한 연구 (A Study of Effectiveness of Outpatient Treatment Orders and Compliance with Outpatient Treatment)

  • 연구목적 외래치료명령제는 정신질환을 앓고 있는 사람이 특정한 외래치료 프로그램에 참여하도록 법에 의해 명령을 내리는 사회적 강제 제도이다. 본 연구에서는 외래치료명령제 및 정신질환자들의 치료 순응도에 영향을 미치는 요인들에 관해 알아보고자 하였다 방법 정신건강의학과 전문의 60명을 대상으로 2016년 10월에서 11월까지 외래치료명령제 및 치료 순응도에 관한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문지 각 문항은 문헌조사를 통하여 초안을 작성하고 3명의 정신건강의학과 전문의 및 1명의 법학전문대학원 교수의 의견 조회 과정을 거쳐서 최종적으로 확정하였다. 설문에 응답한 대상자들의 답변을 기술 통계를 이용하여 분석하였으며, 외래치료명령제의 실효성 점수에 대해서는 중앙값과 최고치, 최저치를 알아보았다. 결과 60명의 정신건강의학과 전문의 중에서 45명(75.0%)이 외래치료명령제를 알고 있었지만, 지난 12개월 중에 이를 이용한 전문의는 2명(4.0%)이었고, 주관적 실효성 점수는 40점/100점으로 그 실효성은 매우 낮게 나타났다. 또한 재입원 환자 중 외래 치료를 지속적으로 받았던 환자의 비율은 37.7%, 외래치료를 임의 중단한 환자 비율은 53.1%로 임의 중단 환자가 차지하는 비율이 더 높았다. 퇴원 환자 중에서는 약 2/3가량이 지속적인 치료를 받고 있었다. 임의로 치료를 중단한 환자의 관리방법으로 '아무런 조치를 취하지 않는다'(n=27)와 '파악하지 않음'(n=15)가 대부분이었지만 '정신건강증진센터 연락한다'는 의견은 2명으로 매우 저조하였다. 또한 임의 중단 환자에 대한 효율적인 조치로서는 '정신건강증진센터에 연계해야한다'는 의견이 가장 많았다(n=30). 결론 현재 시행되는 외래치료명령제는 실효성이 낮고, 외래치료 환자의 치료순응도 또한 매우 저조하였다. 따라서 이에 대한 효과적인 개입을 위해 제도적, 행정적 개선이 필요하며, 향후 정신건강증진센터의 역할이 중요할 것으로 판단된다.

부유챔버를 이용한 화장품의 미세먼지 부착방지 효과 평가법 (Evaluation Method of Cosmetics for the Effect of Fine Dust Adhesion Prevention Using Floating Chamber)

  • 미세먼지(Particulate matter, PM)는 피부 장벽의 기능을 저하시키고 염증성 피부 질환 및 외인성 노화를 유발하는 대기 오염원이다. 본 연구에서는 대체 미세먼지로서 iron oxide black을 이용하여 화장품에 의한 미세먼지의 피부 부착 방지효과를 평가하였다. 미세먼지 부유챔버는 피부노출부위, 미세먼지 주입구, 부유동력장치, 배출구로 구성하여 미세먼지가 챔버내에서 부유 중 피부에 자연스럽게 부착될 수 있도록 제작하였다. 대체 미세먼지의 부유농도에 따른 피부 밝기 변화를 확인하여 최적의 부유농도 조건을 확인하였다. Iron oxide black의 피부부착 전·후의 밝기차이 (미세먼지 부착 전 밝기 - 미세먼지 부착 후 밝기, Δ)는 미세먼지의 양에 비례한다. 또한, 화장품 5종에 대하여 각각 20명의 피험자를 대상으로 제품 도포군과 무도포 대조군으로 나누어 부유 대체 미세먼지에 대한 피부부착 방지효과를 확인하였다. 피부에 부착된 iron oxide black의 전·후 밝기 차이를 계산하여 대조군과 비교분석하였다(p < 0.05). 시험에 최소 150 mg 이상의 iron oxide black을 사용할 때 농도에 따른 피부 밝기 변화 양상이 뚜렷하게 나타났다. 최적의 부유농도에서 피부와 대체미세먼지의 밝기 간섭이 적고 피부 부착 패턴이 선명하게 나타났다. 5종의 화장품을 피부에 도포할 경우 iron oxide black의 부착양이 대조군에 비해 통계적으로 유의하게 낮았다. 이는 제품에 따라 iron oxide black의 부착을 방지 함을 의미한다. 본 연구는 대체 미세먼지로서 iron oxide black의 피부 부착양상을 확인하고, 화장품에 의한 부착 방지효과를 평가하는 안전하고 유용한 방법이다. 화장품의 다양한 제형이나 원료의 특성에 따라 미세먼지가 피부에 부착되는 것을 방지할수 있음을 확인하였다.

분기기 고장 시 열차사고방지를 위한 안전시스템 모델링 (A Study on the Safety System Modeling to Prevent Train Accident by Turn-out Failure)

  • A turnout serves to switch train from one line to another. The turnout consists of a Point which is switchs the rail to induce direction, and a Crossing which is cross over two line on the plane surface, and a Lead where is middle section in Point to Crossing. Point machine, consists of a turnout, is important facilities in railway signal, that is safety issue relates in derailment of the train. Recently, train delay and accident frequently occurred because of the turnout include in a point machine trouble of electrical and mechanical. So in order to prevent train accident the research is advanced, install of normal and reverse indication lamp in a point machine, development of adherence detector for sensing the status of adhesion between the stock rails and tongue rails etc. In this paper investigates the problem which is connected with a turnout trouble, include in a point machine, occurrence at the time of train accident, and then proposed to the safety system model in order to prevent the train accident in turnout.

  • High RAM performance and efficient operation plan and maintenance equipment and policies are needed for improving the system availability performance such as punctuality and schedule adherence while reducing life cycle cost. Because railway systems are repairable, complex and have multi-echelon maintenance support structure, it is much complicated to set RAM performance targets and operation and maintenance plan. It is not easy to solve these problem by mathematical method and simulation can be consider for them. This article suggests the conceptual simulation model for analysing availability of railway system which has complex system structure and operation/maintenance environment.

Influence of 120 kDa Pyruvate:Ferredoxin Oxidoreductase on Pathogenicity of Trichomonas vaginalis

  • Trichomonas vaginalis is a flagellate protozoan parasite and commonly infected the lower genital tract in women and men. Iron is a known nutrient for growth of various pathogens, and also reported to be involved in establishment of trichomoniasis. However, the exact mechanism was not clarified. In this study, the author investigated whether the 120 kDa protein of T. vaginalis may be involved in pathogenicity of trichomonads. Antibodies against 120 kDa protein of T. vaginalis, which was identified as pyruvate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR) by peptide analysis of MALDI-TOF-MS, were prepared in rabbits. Pretreatment of T. vaginalis with anti-120 kDa Ab decreased the proliferation and adherence to vaginal epithelial cells (MS74) of T. vaginalis. Subcutaneous tissue abscess in anti-120 kDa Ab-treated T. vaginalis-injected mice was smaller in size than that of untreated T. vaginalis-infected mice. Collectively, the 120 kDa protein expressed by iron may be involved in proliferation, adhesion to host cells, and abscess formation, thereby may influence on the pathogenicity of T. vaginalis.

METAL ION RESISTANCE OF THE BACTERIOCIN PRODUCING ENTEROCOCCI

  • Ten bacteriocin-producing Enterococcus faecium strains with urease activity ($1.10-6.2nkat.mL^{-1}$) were isolated from the rumen of 2-8 weeks old calves. All strains were resistant aginst disodium arsenate at a minimal inhibition concentration - MIC $5g.L^{-1}$ and mercury chloride ($MIC=10-20mg.L^{-1}$). Eight strains were resistant against silver nitrate ($MIC=40-50mg.L^{-1}$) and three against antibiotics used. The resistance against six antibiotics was found in A23 strain. Values of adherence index ranged from 5.02 to 20.4 enterococci adhered per one epithelial cell of rumen wall. All isolates produced bacteriocins which inhibited the growth at least of one of five indicator organisms. The EF1 strain with a good affinity to the epithelial cell ($15.2{\pm}1.2$) produced bacteriocin substance with antimicrobial activity against grampositive and gramnegative indicator bacteria.

Electroplating of Nickel on Nickel Titanate Modified Mild Steel Surface

  • Nickel is a good electrocatalytic metal and nickel electrodes find many applications in different electrochemical fields. The nickel plated electrodes were prepared by electro-deposition technique on mild steel surface modified with in-situ deposition of nickel titanate. The SEM images shows that the nickel plating on nickel titanate modified mild steel shows better adherence than the nickel plating on bare mild steel surfaces. The extent of polarization of the nickel plating on mild steel with nickel titanate was lower than that of nickel plating on mild steel. The incorporation of nickel titanate on mild steel surface before nickel plating enhances physical, chemical and electrochemical properties of the plating film.

News Analysis of the Fukushima Accident: Lack of Information Disclosure, Radiation Fears and Accountability Issues

  • Previous research assessed media reporting on nuclear accidents and risks, whilst studies about the Fukushima accident focused on the impact of the Internet on coverage of the incident. However, little research has addressed news framing or comparisons of the perceptions of journalists in relation to reporting nuclear accidents. The aim of this study is to apply framing analysis to news content in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today about the Fukushima accident. It explores the question of how journalists view reporting on complex events. Content analysis of these three newspapers shows that conflict, responsibility, and economic consequences were the most frequently used frames. According to the journalists interviewed, the biggest problem was the inability to assess information due to contrary positions held by experts. It is argued that the Fukushima accident was framed as a conflict of experts and officials' opinions, utility and government officials' responsibility, and economic consequences for the United States. Adherence to professional norms of objectivity and impartiality was signified as the best approaches to risk reporting.

임프란트 주위염의 이해와 치료 (Treatment considerations in peri-implantitis)

  • Peri-implantitis is defined as an inflammatory process affecting the tissues around an osseointegrated implant, resulting in the loss of the supporting bone. Microbial adherence and colonization appear to play a major role in the pathogenesis of periimplantitis. The decision regarding treatment strategies is based on the diagnosis. The severity of the peri-implant lesion and the treatment strategies must include mechanical cleaning (infection control) procedures. Mechanical instrumentation is widely used for the debridement of dental implants, but this may alter the titanium's surface properties. Therefore, selection of the type of instrumentation should be made depending on the type of surface to be debrided. Also, patients with dental implants must always be enrolled in a supportive therapy program.
