Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign neoplasm of the salivary glands. Its three malignant variants include carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma, carcinosarcoma, and metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma. Among the subtypes of carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma, high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma has rarely been reported. Additionally, metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma is rare. We report the imaging findings of a high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma ex metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland and parapharyngeal space in a 42-year-old man.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor of the salivary gland. Pleomorphic adenoma occurs most commonly in the parotid gland but it may involve other salivary gland such as submandible or lingual. We report an ectopic pleomorphic adenoma in the subcutaneous layer of the face. A woman presented with a mass of the nasolabial fold. After excision of the mass, it was revealed as an pleomorphic adenoma pathologically. An ectopic pleomorphic adenoma which was located in the subcutaneous layer of the face is very rare in medical literature.

Purpose: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign neoplasm in parotid gland. Superficial parotidectomy was usually used to remove the pleomorphic adenoma. But, this method has to remove tumor with normal parotid tissue. Authors did lumpectomy to remove pleomorphic adenoma in parotid gland, because pleomorphic adenoma is wrapped in a capsule as it grows. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of lumpectomy as a treatment of pleomorphic adenoma in parotid gland. Method: From 2002 to 2008, 8 patients underwent the lumpectomy of the pleomorphic adenoma in parotid gland. Occurrence of the complications and recurrance were evaluated. Result: Patients were followed-up for a mean 45 months. There were no recurrance or no complication after lumpectomy. Conclusion: Authors suggest that the lumpectomy lead to decrese complications, recurrane and can be used as a procedure for the resection of pleomorphic adenoma in parotid gland.

본 교실에서는 상악 구개부의 무통성 종창을 주소로 내원한 다형성 선종의 병력을 가진 환자에 대한 임상적, 조직병리학적, 면역병리학적 검사들을 통하여 최종적으로, 드물게 발병하는 다형성 선종 유래 악성 상피성-근상피암종으로 진단하였으며, 상악골 부분 절제술 및 측두근 피판 지연 재건술 시행 후 현재까지 재발의 소견 없이 양호한 치료 결과를 얻었기에 보고하는 바이다.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common intraoral salivary gland tumor and characteristically presents as slow painless growth. The cheek are rarely affected site of all pleomorphic adenoma arising from minor salivary glands. In this report, we present the case of a patient with pleomorphic adenoma that affects the cheek. The purpose of this paper is to report this case and review the features of the pleomorphic adenoma occuring in this site.

이하선의 기저세포선종은 pleomorphic adenoma와는 달리 종양구성세포에서 myoepithelial cell을 볼수없는 아주 희귀한 isomorphic epithelial tumor 이다. 병리학적으로 pleomorphic adenoma 와 adenoid cystic carcinoma 와 감별이 어려운 점이 문제이며, 임상 경과는 pleomorphic adenoma 에 준하는 수술로 양호한 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 저자는 최근에 63세와 71세된 남자환자에서 좌측 이하선 심부엽에 발생한 기저세포선종 2 예를 치험하였기에 이를 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하였다.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common type of salivary gland tumor and the most common tumor of the parotid gland. Because of its propensity for invasion, pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid requires superficial parotidectomy or total parotidectomy to minimize the risk of tumor recurrence. We report a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland with repeated recurrences. A 23-year-old male patient presented with a protruding neck mass. Six years prior to this presentation, the patient had undergone superficial parotidectomy for the removal of pleomorphic adenoma of the right parotid gland at our institution. The patient experienced recurrence at 17 months after the initial resection, which required a total parotidectomy with partial resection of the facial nerve. Pathologic examination revealed histologic findings consistent with pleomorphic adenoma across the surgical specimen from all three of the operations. The patient suffered from facial nerve paralysis, with facial expressions partially recovered over a year.

Among a variety of malignant types for parotid gland tumors, intracapsular carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma which is classified as a non-invasive tumor has been reported rarely. We report a case of a 69-years old patient, who presented with a left parotid mass that was detected 30 years ago. Fine needle aspiration biopsy result of the mass was "suggestive of pleomorphic adenoma". Superficial partial parotidectomy was performed for the mass and the permanent pathologic finding was "intracapsular carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma" which was a salivary ductal carcinoma with well-preserved myoepithelial cells surrounding the malignant epithelial cell clusters. Surgical resection is the main treatment modality for the treatment of intracapsular carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma. Herein, we present the case with a review of literature.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common salivary gland neoplasm and most of them arise in the parotid gland. Pleomorphic adenomas at other sites than salivary glands have rarely been reported. We experienced a patient with pleomorphic adenoma of larynx. A 59 year-old female patient visited outpatient clinic complaining of voice change and foreign body sensation. Round mass at right vocal process was found in laryngoscopic exam. We performed laryngoscopic microsurgery to remove the tumor. Histologically, it was diagnosed as pleomorphic adenoma. Recurrence or complication did not occur during the follow up period of 3 years.

Pleomonhic adenoma, the most common of the benign salivary gland tumor, is called benign mixed tumor. The tumor was first described by Kaltschmied in 1725 and clinically systematized by Bilroth in 1859. Most pleomorphic adenoma arise in major salivary glands. However, their development in minor salivay glands of the oral cavity, pharynx, paranasal sinuses, and in skin and lacrimal glands is well known. The palate is the most common site of origin of pleomorphic adenoma in minor salivary gland. Recently the authors have experienced a case of the huge pleomorphic adenoma of the hard palate in a 70 years old woman. This is the report of a case with review of literature.
