The information of cut slope in Baekyang Mt. area, Busan is investigated in order to construct the Slope Management System in Urban Area. The slope inspection sheet is made to record the characteristics for cut slopes, and that is capable to be inputted slope information systematically. The cut slopes in Baekyang Mt. area are consisting of 103 slopes. Most of the cut slopes are constructed in cutting slope and retaining wall (CR). The school is mostly distributed adjacent to cut slopes. The average traverse of cut slopes is approximately 122m, and the average height is approximately 18m. The slopes combined with soil and rock are mostly distributed. The retaining wall was installed in the toe part of cut slope in order to increase the slope stability, and the additional reinforcement methods including the anchor, drainage, preventing rock fall, shotcrete and vegetation were installed in the walls and slopes.

Green environment is most important factor to human being taking a side view of psychological aspect. But, as the civilization progresses rapidly, the green environment decreases. At present, various environmentally friendly methods are developed to prevent the ill effect of the concretes. n this study, Ecostone retaining wall method, which is a kind of environmentally friendly block, are used for verifying the application to the slope stability and protection of rural hosing. In case of rural hosing and structure, the height of the slope is not high and additional loading doesn't act on the slope except the gravity loading of housing and structure. From the result of the stability analysis of Ecostone, 3m to 7m Ecostone retaining wall can have an equivalence capacity comparing with the concrete retaining wall. Therefore, Ecostone method can apply to retaining wall with the structural safety and environmentally friendly aspect using the plants and vegetation.
One of the characteristics of the Maglev Train is the prominent capability of upgoing. Maglev train with the aim of longitudinal slope 7/100 is under development by the Center for Urban Maglev Program in Korea. To realize these slope, vertical curves must be inserted before and after the slope. The inserted curve has the radius of 3,000m generally. The insertion of these vertical curve results in the additional differences between the girder upper face and the guide rail, and the alignments are controlled by cast in place concrete at present. In this study, for longitudinal curved route with longitudinal slope 6/100, the applicability of PSC-U type girder and precast deck was evaluated for the span length 25m, 30m and vertical curve radii with 3,000m and 1,500m with respect to longitudinal slope 6/100.
A new sensorless position estimation method for switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives is presented in this paper. This method uses the change of the slope of the phase inductance to detect the aligned position. Since the aligned positions for successive electrical cycle of each phase are apart by a fixed mechanical angle $45^{\circ}$ in the case of 12/8 SRM, the speed of the machine can be calculated to estimate the rotor position. Since no prior knowledge of motor parameters is required, the method is easy for implementation without adding any additional hardware or memory. In order to verify the validity of this technique, effects such as changes in the advanced angle and phase lacking faults are examined. In addition, an inductance threshold based sensorless starting scheme is also proposed. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
Airborn Lidar technology has been applied to diverse applications with the advantages of accurate 3D information. Further, Lidar intensity, backscattered signal power, can provid us additional information regarding target's characteristics. Lidar intensity varies by the target reflectance, moisture condition, range, and viewing geometry. This study purposes to generate normalized airborne LiDAR intensity image considering those influential factors such as reflectance, range and geometric/topographic factors (scan angle, ground height, aspect, slope, local incidence angle: LIA). Laser points from one flight line were extracted to simplify the geometric conditions. Laser intensities of sample plots, selected by using a set of reference data and ground survey, werethen statistically analyzed with independent variables. Target reflectance, range between sensor and target, and surface slope were main factors to influence the laser intensity. Intensity of laser points was initially normalized by removing range effect only. However, microsite topographic factor, such as slope angle, was not normalized due to difficulty of automatic calculation.

In order to analysis the reason of sliding failure in embankment slope under construction in soft soil area, a model section located in Gimhae Region in Gyeongsangnam-Do, where the sliding failure had been occurred during embankment works in soft soil area, had been selected. This area had been firstly treated with the Pack Drain Method, and additional embankment works of 9.7 meters out of total 14 meters in thickness had been under construction. The results of analysis showed that the reason of sliding failure were overspeed in embankment construction and the overestimation of design factors in calculating strength of each layer of embankment and poor management and inaccuracy reading of measurement devices.

In this case study, under conideration of field situations, such as increase of water level, height increment of the marine structure, dredging and backfill, the stability analysis of sliding and lateral flow of the marine structure in OOOharbor was carried out, and foundation reinforcement methods was presented. based on the results of site investigation, the stability analysis of slope sliding and lateral flow was performed as following. In section BH-1, 2, the analysis was performed in two cases that the marine structure was heightened and filled, and not heightened and filled. In section BH-1, 4, heightened and filled. The analysis results showed that the stabilities of slope sliding and lateral flow in section BH-1, 2, 3, 4 were unstable. After additional reinforcements with Deep Mortar Pile, the stabilities in section BH-1, 2, 3, 4 were evaluated as efficiently large.

Recently the modified mild-slope equation has been developed by several researchers using different approaches, which, compared to the Berkhoff's mild-slope equation, includes additional terms proportional to the square of bottom slope and to the bottom curvature. By examining this equation, it is shown that both terms are equally important in intermediate-depth water, but in shallow water the influence of the bottom curvature term diminishes while that of the bottom slope square term remains significant. In order to examine the importance of these terms in more detail, the modified mild-slope equation and the Berkhoff's mild-slope equation are tested for the problems of wave reflection from a plane slope, a non-plane slope, and periodic ripples. It is shown that, when only the bottom slope is concerned, the mild-slope equation can give accurate results up to a slope of 1 in 1 rather than 1 in 3, which, until now, has been known as the limiting bottom slope for its proper application. It is also shown that the bottom curvature term plays an important role in modeling wave propagation over a bottom topography with relatively mild variation, but, where the bottom slope is not small, the bottom slope square term should also be included for more accurate results.
The cut-slope of a large-sectional tunnel portal is recognized as a potential area of weakness due to unstable stress distribution and possible permanent displacement. This paper presents a case study of a slope failure and remediation for a large-scale cut-slope at a tunnel portal. Extensive rock-slope brittle failure occurred along discontinuities in the rock mass after 46 mm of rainfall, which caused instability of the upper part of the cut-slope. Based on a geological survey and face mapping, the reason for failure is believed to be the presence of thin clay fill in discontinuities in the weathered rock mass and consequent saturationinduced joint weakening. The granite-gneiss rock mass has a high content of alkali-feldspar, indicating a vulnerability to weathering. Immediately before the slope failure, a sharp increase in displacement rate was indicated by settlement-time histories, and this observation can contribute to the safety management criteria for slope stability. In this case study, emergency remediation was performed to prevent further hazard and to facilitate reconstruction, and counterweight fill and concrete filling of voids were successfully applied. For ultimate remediation, the grid anchor-blocks were used for slope stabilization, and additional rock bolts and grouting were applied inside the tunnel. Limit-equilibrium slope stability analysis and analyses of strereographic projections confirmed the instability of the original slope and the effectiveness of reinforcing methods. After the application of reinforcing measures, instrumental monitoring indicated that the slope and the tunnel remained stable. This case study is expected to serve as a valuable reference for similar engineering cases of large-sectional slope stability.
In this study, in order to investigate the effects of reinforcement length and vertical spacing on the factor of safety, the road embankment reinforced by geogrid was analyzed using RSS(Reinforced Slope Stability) program based on limit equilibrium analysis. The result by computer analysis showed that the factor of safety for reinforced slope increased with increasing length of reinforcement and with decreasing vertical spacing of reinforcement up to certain limit. Also, numerical analysis by FLAC was performed on reinforced slope to evaluate the horizontal displacement, horizontal stress, and distribution of tensile forces of reinforcements in the cases of several reinforcement length. The results of analysis showed that the critical failure mode was toe failure or slope failure and the effect by the additional reinforcement length on the slope stability was negligible under stabilized condition.
