  • In an experiment using chest radiography, the authors measured the scattered ray content ratio and exposed skin dose giving varieties to the object thickness, tube voltage, additional filters and gird. The result was as follows, In the 80 kV the required mAs for the density 1.8 was $10{\sim}20$ times as much as in the 140 kV, and when 10 : 1 grid was used the required mAs was $3{\sim}5$ times as much as when grid was not used. Under the same tube voltage the scattered ray content ratios were increased as the additional filter thickness became thicker. And when 10 : 1 grid was used the ratio could be decreased $2{\sim}5$ times as much as when grid was not used. Skin doses exposed to the patients were increasing as the thickness of the object became thicker, and were decreasing as filters became thicker while showing slow the decreasing effects above the 1/8 VL. And when the grid was used skin doses were increased $2{\sim}4$ times as much as when not used. In order to improve the image qualities while reducing the exposures in the chest radiography, the authors suggest followings. The additional filters up to the 1/2 VL will be suitable according to the thickness of the objects in the 80kv, while the 10 : 1 grid and additional filter of 1/8 VL will be suitable in the 140 kV.

  • We propose approaches for improving Bloom filter in terms of false positive probability and membership query speed. To reduce the false positive probability, we propose special type of additional Bloom filters that are used to handle false positives caused by the original Bloom filter. Implementing the proposed approach for a routing table lookup, we show that our approach reduces the routing table lookup time by up to 28% compared to the original Bloom filter by handling most false positives within the fast memory. We also introduce an approach for improving the membership query speed. Taking the hash table-like approach while storing only values, the proposed approach shows much faster membership query speed than the original Bloom filter (e.g., 34 times faster with 10 subsets). Even compared to a hash table, our approach reduces the routing table lookup time by up to 58%.

  • In this paper a method of designing FIR filters without digital arithmetic operationsi is persented. The filter coefficients are represented by resistors combined with a differential amplifier. With this method an FIR filter can be simply impemented without refering to complex digital arithmetic operations. Furthermore, in this scheme, no additional D/A converter is needed for D/A conversion. Spectral response response of a pulse shaping filter of 17 coefficients is shown as an illustration.

  • In this paper, the fractal shape is applied to microstrip band pass filters and integrated on a high-resistivity Si substrate to solve conventional $2^{nd}$ harmonic problem. Conventional microstrip coupled line filters are popular in RF front ends, because they can be easily fabricated and integrated with other RF components. However, they typically have large second harmonics that can cause unwanted interference in interested frequency bands. Without any additional filters, the proposed Koch shape filters have suppressed the $2^{nd}$ harmonics by about -40 dB, so they can be used in systems such as direct conversion receiver with stringent harmonic suppression requirements.

  • LCL filters installed at converter outputs offer a higher harmonic attenuation than L filters. However, as a three order resonant circuit, it is difficult to stabilize and has a risk of oscillating with the power grid. Therefore, careful design is required to damp LCL resonance. Compared to a passive damping method, an active damping method is a more attractive solution for this problem, since it avoids extra power losses. In this paper, the damping capabilities of capacitor current, capacitor voltage, and grid-side current feedback methods, are analyzed under the discrete-time state-space model. Theoretical analysis shows that the grid-side current feedback method is more suitable for use in active power filters, because it can damp LCL resonance more effectively than the other two methods when the ratio of the resonance and the control frequency is between 0.225 and 0.325. Furthermore, since there is no need for extra sensors for additional states measurements, this method provides a cost-efficient solution. To support the theoretical analysis, the proposed method is tested on a 7-kVA single-phase shunt active power filter.

  • In this paper, the decentralized suboptimal $H_2$ filtering problem is considered. An additional term is added to the centralized optimal $H_2$ filter so that the whole filter is decentralized. We derive a sufficient condition for existence of such decentralized filters. By employing the solution procedure for the exact model matching problem, we obtain a set of decentralized $H_2$ filters, and choose a suboptimal filter from this set of decentralized $H_2$ filters. Naturally the resulting filter is guaranteed to be stable.

  • In this paper, a new filter structure to improve frequency response characteristics in decimation filter using CIC(Cascaded Integrator-Comb) filters and half band filters is proposed. Conventional filters improve only passband characteristics, but we propose a new filter which can improve stop band and pass band characteristics simultaneously. Since proposed filter needs only two multiplication, additional implementation cost is not much. And overall linear phase characteristics are maintained since the proposed filter is also linear phase. Finally, filter coefficients quantization effects ate discussed after Verilog-HDL coding.

  • In order to block mobile junk messages automatically, many studies on spam filters have applied machine learning algorithms. Most previous research focused only on the accuracy rate of spam filters from the view point of the algorithm used, not on individual user's preferences. In terms of individual taste, the spam filters implemented on a mobile device have the advantage over spam filters on a network node, because it deals with only incoming messages on the users' phone and generates no additional traffic during the filtering process. However, a spam filter on a mobile phone has to consider the consumption of resources, because energy, memory and computing ability are limited. Moreover, as time passes an increasing number of feature words are likely to exhaust mobile resources. In this paper we propose a spam filter model distributed between a users' computer and smart phone. We expect the model to follow personal decision boundaries and use the uniform resources of smart phones. An authorized user's computer takes on the more complex and time consuming jobs, such as feature selection and training, while the smart phone performs only the minimum amount of work for filtering and utilizes the results of the information calculated on the desktop. Our experiments show that the accuracy of our method is more than 95% with Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes and Support Vector Machine, and our model that uses uniform memory does not affect other applications that run on the smart phone.

  • We present a new generation of imaging colorimeter that ensures improved accuracy and sensitivity for shorter measurement times. The imaging optics is telecentric on the sensor and allows measurements at any distances without additional calibration. A new technology is used to make the color filters and flat densities. Imaging polarimetry at fixed wavelength is also possible with the same instrument.
