In order to improve the safety r! ship berthing and the efficiency r! berth operation in the harbour, the berthing energy acting on a ship in berthing maneuver need to be estimated properly. The berthing energy is used as one q the criteria to determine the maximum permissible load of fender as well as important factors to establish the berthing speed and the required power r! tug-beat for pilot and ship operator. In this study, some problems r! present the method of berthing energy are discussed on the basis of the hydrodynamic aspects. Then, series calculations of berthing energy are carried out considering the effect of water depth on added mass and the ship shape for container series from 1,600TEU to 12,000TEU.
This paper presents a method of seismic analysis for a cylindrical liquid storage structure considering the effects of the interior fluid and exterior soil medium in the frequency domain. The horizontal and rocking motions of the structure are included in this study. The fluid motion is expressed in terms of analytical velocity potential functions, which can be obtained by solving the boundary value problem including the deformed configuration of the structure as well as the sloshing behavior of the fluid. The effect of the fluid is included in the equation of motion as the impulsive added mass and the frequency-dependent convective added mass along the nodes on the wetted boundary of the structure. The structure and the near-field soil medium are represented using the axisymmetric finite elements, while the far-field soil is modeled using dynamic infinite elements. The present method can be applied to the structure embedded in ground as well as on ground, since it models both the soil medium and the structure directly. For the purpose of verification, earthquake response analyses are performed on several cases of liquid tanks on a rigid ground and on a homogeneous elastic half-space. Comparison of the present results with those by other methods shows good agreement. Finally, an application example of a reinforced concrete tank on a horizontally layered soil with a rigid bedrock is presented to demonstrate the importance of the soil-structure interaction effects in the seismic analysis for large liquid storage tanks.

Recently, Wind-turbine electronic generator become popular. Wind-Turbine is free to cost for purchase and noise problem. For this reason, trend is shifting from Wind-turbine on land to offshore. Research and Development for offshore Wind-turbine has been conducted by various research institution. However, There is no solid design code for offshore Wind-turbine even in domestic as well as foreign. In this paper, conduct seismic analysis and compare results using design codes Korea Bridge Design Codes, Korea Harbor and Marina Design Codes, and DNV OS. Time-History analysis conducted for checking time dependent effect. The Added-Mass Method applied to consider water-structure effects and compared for w/ water and w/o water condition.

The concept of the natural frequency is useful for understanding the characters of oscillating systems. However, when a circular cylinder floating horizontally on the water surface is heaving, due to the hydrodynamic forces, the system is not governed by the equation like that of the harmonic one. In this paper, in order to shed some lights on the more correct use of the concept of the natural frequency, a problem of the heaving circular cylinder is analyzed in the frequency domain. Previously, it was thought that the theory of Ursell (1949) could not be used to get the added mass and wave-making damping for short waves, however, they were obtained by applying an accurate collocation method to the theory in this study. Using the so developed numerical method, we found the added mass and wave-making damping of the circular cylinder for the entire range of the frequency. Then, the MCFR(Modulus of Complex Frequency Response) was used to locate the frequency corresponding to the local maximum of MCFR and we define it as the natural frequency. Comparing our results with the previous investigation, we found that the pressure distribution on the cylinder gets close asymptotically to that of a cylinder in infinite fluid OR close to that of the cylinder, that the approximation of the natural frequency by Lee (2008) is different from our new value only by 0.64%, and that the approximation of the heaving system by an equivalent damped harmonic oscillation is not proper by the reason that is clearly shown from the comparison of the shape of the corresponding MCFRs.

An axisymmetric shell element which includes the effects of the meridional and circumferential cable prestresses is developed. The fluid-structure interaction is expressed as added mass effect which is in proportion to the acceleration of the structure in interface surface. The added mass is obtained by using finite element method under the assumption that the fluid is invicid, incompressible and irrotational. It is coded for personal computer by the maximum use of axisymmetic properties and the dynamic analysis are performed under seismic exitations. A ring element makes the characteristics of the axisymmetric shell to be fully utilized. The elgenvalue solutons under the initial prestresses and the internal fluid are well agreed with the exact solutions and references by using under 20 elements. The eigenvalues are decreased along the increasing the height of internal fluid and these effects are dominant under the lower wave numbers. The results of the seismic analysis show that the radial deflection under the meridional prestress is a little larger than that under the circumferential prestress.

An influence of the addition of copper (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mass% Cu) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of high purity iron (99.998 mass%) was characterized. The microstructure and microhardness of high-purity iron based samples, which were rolled at room temperature and subsequently annealed, were investigated in this work. The microstructure of the samples has been observed by electron back scattering diffraction (EBSD) and the mechanical properties have been studied by using micro-Vickers hardness test. The results of microstructural observation showed that deformation band was formed in high purity iron by rolling at room temperature, and it was recovered by annealing up to about 900 K. The microhardness results showed that the softening of high-purity iron occurred by annealing up to about 900 K, while the hardness of iron added with about 0.5-1.5 mass% copper was kept over 100 Hv and at the early time of annealing reached a maximum. The hardness of iron added with a small amount of copper may be attributed to precipitation hardening as well as solution hardening. The orientation of crystal in recrystallized grain was almost same as that of deformed grain.

The effects of radiation damping is used to compensate the truncated boundary which is relatively close to the structure-fluid interface in the fluid element surrounding the submerged structures. An efficient ring element is presented to model the shell and fluid element which fully utilizes the characteristics of the axisymmetry. The computational model uses the technique which separate the meridional shape and circumferential wave mode and gets similar result with the exact solution in the eigenvalues and the earthquake analysis. The fluid-structure interaction techniques is developed in the finite element analysis of two dimensional problems using the relations between pressure, nodal unknown acceleration and added mass assuming the fluid to be invicid, incompressible and irrotational. The effectiveness and efficiency of the technique is demonstrated by analyzing the free vibration and seismic analysis using the added mass matrix considering the structural deformation effect.
Typically, photoacoustic images are obtained in water or gelatin because the impedance of these mediums is similar to that of the human body. However, these acoustic mediums can have an additional mass effect that changes the resonance frequency of the transducer. The acoustic radiation impedance in air is negligible because it is very small compared to that of the transducer. However, the high acoustic impedance of mediums such as the human body and water is quite large compared to that of air, making it difficult to ignore. Specifically, in a case where the equivalent mass is very small, such as with a micro-machined ultrasound transducer, the additional mass effects of the acoustic medium should be considered for an accurate resonance frequency design. In this study, a piezoelectric micro-machined ultrasonic transducer (pMUT) was designed to have a resonance frequency of 10 MHz in the acoustic medium of water, which has similar impedance as the human body. At that time, the resonance frequency of the pMUT in air was calculated at 15.2 MHz. When measuring the center displacement of the manufactured pMUT using a laser vibrometer, the resonance frequencies were measured as 14.3-15.1 MHz, which is consistent with the finite element method (FEM) simulation results. Finally, photoacoustic images of human hair samples were successfully obtained using the fabricated pMUT.

This study was carried out to investigate the development and oviposition characteristics of Protaetia brevitarsis fed mulberry fermented sawdust added with mulberry cake. The results of rearing of P. brevitarsis larvae on oak fermented sawdust and mulberry fermented sawdust added with different ratio of mulberry cake, the development periods of larvae feed sawdust with mulberry cake were about 41.6~48.5 days and shortened by 117 or more than that without treatment. The development periods were shorter as the ratio of mulberry cake added increased and there was no difference according to the kind of sawdust. But the weight of the larvae raised in mulberry fermented sawdust added with mulberry cake was heavier than that of the larvae raised in oak fermented sawdust added with mulberry cake. When mass rearing P. brevitarsis larvae in oak fermented sawdust, the addition of 5% mulberry cake was appropriate. Also, the average number of laying eggs of female who fed diet with mulberry cake was 12.3% higher than that of untreated.
Active clay, bentonite and zeolite were used as porous materials for humidity controlling ceramic boards. The specific area and the pore volume of active clay were higher than bentonite and zeolite. The flexible strength of the gypsum board decreased with an increasing amount of porous material, and the flexible strength was lowest when active clay with a higher specific surface area than others porous materials was added. The specific surface area and total pore volume of ceramic boards containing porous material were highest at $102.25m^2/g$, $0.142cm^3/g$, respectively, when the active clay was added. In addition, as the amount of added porous materials increased, the specific surface area and total pore volume of the ceramic board increased, but the average pore diameter decreased. The addition of s porous materials with a high specific area and a large pore volume improved the moisture absorptive and desorptive performance of the ceramic board. Therefore, in this experiment, the moisture absorptive and desorptive properties were the best when active clay was added. Furthermore, as the amount of added porous materials increased, the moisture absorptive and desorptive properties improved. When 70 mass% of active clay was added to ${\alpha}$-type gypsum, the hygroscopicity was the highest, about $300g/m^2$, in this experiment.
