Random Backoff Scheme of Emergency Warning Message for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communications (차량 간 통신에서 충돌을 완화하기 위한 랜덤 백오프 방안)

  • In this paper, we propose a random backoff scheme for Emergency Warning Messages (EWMs) in the vehicle-to-vehicle environment. The EWMs are disseminated from a vehicle that detects an emergency situation to other vehicles in a multi-hop fashion. Since the vehicle-to-vehicle communication based on IEEE 802.11 adapts CSMA/CA, the density of vehicles increase the probability of collisions between transmissions. Moreover, in the presence of background traffic, the EWM should have a higher priority than that of other messages in neighboring vehicles. To that end, we propose the Distant-Dependent Adaptive Backoff (DDAB) scheme, which set a different contention window for random backoff depending on the distance from the sender to the receiver. In the case when a vehicle is expected to located in the outskirts of the communication boundary, the proposed scheme makes the contention window size small in order to compete the background traffic transmission. Otherwise the contention window is set to a large number to reduce the collision possibility among the EWM transmissions. Via simulations, we show that the proposed scheme performs better than the previous schemes for EWM.

Adaptive Channel Estimation Algorithm for DVB-T (DVB-시스템을 위한 적응형 채널 추정 알고리즘)

  • In digital video broadcasting-terrestrial (DVB-T), which is the European digital terrestrial television standard, the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been adopted for signal transmission. The main reasons using OFDM are to increase the robustness against the frequency selective fading and impulse noise, and to use available bandwidth efficiently. However, channel variation within an OFDM symbol destroys orthogonality between subcarriers, resulting in inter-carrier interference (ICI), which increases an error floor in proportional to maximum Doppler spread. This paper provides an ICI analysis in both time and frequency domains while existing literatures analyze the ICI effects mainly in frequency domain and proposes the algorithms that estimate the channel impulse response and channel variation using least square (LS) algorithm which is the most simple channel estimation technique. And we propose adaptive channel estimation algorithm that estimates the velocity of terminals. The simulation results show that proposed algorithm has similar performance with about 1.5% computational complexity of noise and ICI reduction LS algorithm in low speed environments.

The Design of Adaptive Quantizer to Improve Image Quality of the H.263 (H.263의 화질 개선을 위한 적응 양자화기 설계)

  • H.263 is an international standard of ITU-T that can makes the service such as video phone, video conference in the transmission line less than 64Kbps. This recommendation draft has used motion estimation/compensation, transform coding and quantizing methods. TMN5 used for the performance estimation of H.263 has fundamentally used DCT in transform coding method and presented quantizer for quantizing the DCT transform coefficient. This paper is presenting adaptive quantizer effectively able to quantize DCT coefficient considering the human visual sensitivity while the structure of TMN5 is maintaining. As quantizer that proposed DCT-based H.263 could make transmit more frame than TMN5 in a same transfer speed, it could lower the frame drop effect. And the luminance signal appeared the difference of -0.3 ~ +0.7dB in the average PSNR for the estimation of objective image quality and the chrominance signal appeared the improvement in about 1.5dB in comparision with TMN5. As a result it can attain the better image quality compared to TMN5 in the estimation of subjective image quality.

A study on image edge detection using adaptive morphology Meyer wavelet-CNN (적응적 형상학 Meyer 웨이브렛-CNN을 이용한 영상 에지 검출 연구)

  • The digital image can be distorted by a noise for a transmission or other elements of system. It happen to be vague of a boundary side in the division of an image object, especially, boundary side of an input image is very important because it can be determined to the division and detection element in pattern recognition. Therefore it is proposed an edge detection method of optimal to divide and detect exactly a boundary part. In this paper, it detected the optimal edge with applying this image to Meyer wavelet-CNN algorithm, after it does level up a boundary side of an image by using the adaptive morphology as the threshold of an input image. It confirmed that the proposed algorithm is more superior to the conventional methods and the conventional Sobel method which is an image edge detection algorithm. Especially, it is confirmed by simulation that the proposed algorithm can be got the better result edge at the place of closing to each edges and having smoothly curved line.

Realization of Plasmonic Adaptive Coupler using Curved Multimode Interference Waveguide (곡면형 다중모드 간섭 도파로를 사용한 플라즈마 적응 결합기의 구현)

  • Nano-scale power splitter based on curved plasmonic waveguides are designed by utilizing the multimode interference (MMI) coupler. To analyze easily the adaptive properties of plasmonic curverd multimode interference coupler(PC-MMIC), the curved form transforms equivalently into a planar form by using conformal transformation method. Also, effective dielectric method and longitudinal modal transmission-line theory are used for simulating the light propagation and optimizing the structural parameters at 3-D guiding geometry. The designed $2{\times}2$ PC-MMIC does not work well for quasi-TM mode case due to the bending structure, and it does not exist 3dB coupling property, in which the power splitting ratio is 50%:50%, for quasi-TE mode case. Further, the coupling efficiency is better when the signal is incident at channel with large curvature radius than small curvature radius.

  • This paper relates with the performance of VSCA adaptive equalization algorithm that is used for the minimization of the intersymbol interference due to the distortion which occurs in the time dispersive channel for the transmission of 16-QAM signal. In the conventional SCA, it is possible to compensates the amplitude and phase in the received signal that are mixed with the intersymbol interference by the constellatin dependent constant by using the 2nd order statistics of the transmitted signal. But in the VSCA, it is possible to the increase the equalization performance by adding the concept of distance adjusted approach for constellation matching. We compare the performance of VSCA and SCA algorithm by computer simulation. For this, the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion and MSE were used for perfomance comparison. It was confirmed that, the VSCA algorithm has better than the SCA in every performance index by computer simulation.

An Adaptive De-blocking Algorithm in Low Bit-rate Video Coding (저 비트율 비디오를 위한 적응적 블록킹 현상 제거 기법)

  • Most video codecs including the international standards use the block-based hybrid structure for efficient compression. But for low bit-rate applications such as video transmission through wireless channels, the blocking artifacts degrade image qualify seriously. In this paper, we propose an adaptive de-blocking algorithm using characteristics of the block boundaries. Blocking artifacts contain the high frequency components near the block boundaries, therefore the lowpass filtering can remove them. However, simple lowpass filtering results into blurring by removing important information such as edges. To overcome this problem, we determine the modes depending upon the characteristics of pixels adjacent to block boundary then proper filter is applied to each area. Simulation results show that proposed method improves de-blocking performance compared to that of MPEG-4.

  • The issues that we should consider in the process of providing mobile web service using a mobile device are seamless service and QoS-guaranteed service. HMIPv6 has MAP because of improving packet loss and transmission delay due to disconnection. However, a load is concentrated on HMIPv6 because of receiving and delivering packet for MN. Owing to this, real time data fails to be processed quickly, and also adaptive mobile service is required for QoS guaranteed service. However, this method demands the response time cost of contents service owing to the hardware differences of various devices. Therefore, we improve the process performance of real time data by applying a queue in MAP for seamless service in this paper. For decreasing response time cost, we propose mobile web service method which has reusable cache of contents using the elements of contents. The result of a numerical formula and simulation shows that our proposed method is superior under various system conditions.

Image Exposure Compensation Based on Conditional Expectation (Conditional Expectation을 이용한 영상의 노출 보정)

  • In the formation of images in a camera, the exposure time is appropriately adjusted to obtain a good image. Hence for a successful alignment of a sequence of images to the same scene, it is required to compensate the different exposure times. If we have no knowledge regarding the exposure time, then we should develop an algorithm that can compensate an image with respect to a reference image without using any camera formation models. In this paper, an exposure compensation is performed by designing predictors based on the conditional expectation between the reference and input images. Further, an adaptive predictor design is conducted to manage the irregular exposure or histogram problem. In order to alleviate the blocking artifact and the overfitting problems in the adaptive scheme, a smoothing technique, which uses the pixels of the adjacent blocks, is proposed. We successfully conducted the exposure compensation using real images obtained from digital cameras and the transmission electron microscopy.

An ANP-based Resource Management Scheme in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks Considering Multiple Criteria (다기준 요소를 고려한 ANP 기반 이기종 무선 네트워크 자원관리 방안)

  • In a heterogeneous wireless environment, a variety of Radio Access Technologies (RATs) coexist. Since the number of RATs is anticipated to increase in the near future, it is desirable to have radio and network resources managed in a cooperative manner using the Common Radio Resource Management (CRRM) strategy. In order to make RAT-specific radio resources manageable in CRRM, this paper proposes the Analytical Network Process (ANP) based resource management scheme that efficiently allocates resources among heterogeneous wireless networks. The proposed ANP-based method is flexible enough to be used in any network environment and can consider a multitude of decision factors. In addition, the proposed scheme uses a radio bandwidth model, which properly reflects transmission rates under given channel conditions, as the actual radio resources to be allocated. The model considers the AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) scheme that is widely used in current broadband wireless access technologies, and thus, packet service characteristics, such as response time, can be analyzed. The effectiveness and flexibility of the proposed method are demonstrated by implementing a number of existing factors on heterogeneous networks environment.
