Recently, home energy management system (HEMS) for power consumption reduction has been widely used and studied. The HEMS performs electric power consumption control for the indoor electric device connected to the HEMS. However, a traditional HEMS is used for passive control method using some particular power saving devices. Disadvantages with this traditional HEMS is that these power saving devices should be newly installed to build HEMS environment instead of existing home appliances. Therefore, an HEMS, which performs with existing home appliances, is needed to prevent additional expenses due to the purchase of state-of-the-art devices. In this paper, an intelligent inference algorithm for EMS at home for non-power saving electronic equipment, called legacy devices, is proposed. The algorithm is based on the adaptive network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and has a subsystem that notifies retraining schedule to the ANFIS to increase the inference performance. This paper discusses the overview and the architecture of the system, especially in terms of the retraining schedule. In addition, the comparison results show that the proposed algorithm is more accurate than the classic ANFIS-based EMS system.
This paper presents an approach of the Gustafson-Kessel (GK) clustering algorithm's performance in fault identification on power transmission lines. The clustering algorithm is incorporated in a scheme that uses hybrid intelligent technique to combine artificial neural network and a fuzzy inference system, known as adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The scheme is used to identify the type of fault that occurs on a power transmission line, either single line to ground, double line, double line to ground or three phase. The scheme is also capable an analyzing the fault location without information on line parameters. The range of error estimation is within 0.10 to 0.85 relative to five values of fault resistances. This paper also presents the performance of the GK clustering algorithm compared to fuzzy clustering means (FCM), which is particularly implemented in structuring a data. Results show that the GK algorithm may be implemented in fault identification on power system transmission and performs better than FCM.

According to the National Police Agency, the total number of traffic accidents which occurred in 2010 was 226,878. Intersection accidents accounts for 44.8%, the largest portion of the entire traffic accidents. An research on the signalized intersection is constantly made, while an research on the unsignalized intersection is yet insufficient. This study selected traffic volume, road width, and sight distance as the input variables which affect unsignalized intersection accidents, and number of accidents as the output variable to build a model using ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System). The forecast performance of this model is evaluated by comparing the actual measurement value with the forecasted value. The compatibility is evaluated by R2, the coefficient of determination, along with Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Mean Square Error (MSE), the indicators which represent the degree of error and distribution. The result shows that the $R^2$ is 0.9817, while MAE and MSE are 0.4773 and 0.3037 respectively, which means that the explanatory power of the model is quite decent. This study is expected to provide the basic data for establishment of safety measure for unsignalized intersection and the improvement of traffic accidents.

Concrete carbonation is a prevalent phenomenon that leads to steel reinforcement corrosion in reinforced concrete (RC) structures, thereby decreasing their service life as well as durability. The process of carbonation results in a lower pH level of concrete, resulting in an acidic environment with a pH value below 12. This acidic environment initiates and accelerates the corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete, rendering it more susceptible to damage and ultimately weakening the overall structural integrity of the RC system. Lower pH values might cause damage to the protective coating of steel, also known as the passive film, thus speeding up the process of corrosion. It is essential to estimate the carbonation factor to reduce the deterioration in concrete structures. A lot of work has gone into developing a carbonation model that is precise and efficient that takes both internal and external factors into account. This study presents an ML-based adaptive-neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) approach to predict the carbonation depth of fly ash (FA)-based concrete structures. Cement content, FA, water-cement ratio, relative humidity, duration, and CO2 level have been used as input parameters to develop the ANFIS model. Six performance indices have been used for finding the accuracy of the developed model and two analytical models. The outcome of the ANFIS model has also been compared with the other models used in this study. The prediction results show that the ANFIS model outperforms analytical models with R-value, MAE, RMSE, and Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency index values of 0.9951, 0.7255 mm, 1.2346 mm, and 0.9957, respectively. Surface plots and sensitivity analysis have also been performed to identify the repercussion of individual features on the carbonation depth of FA-based concrete structures. The developed ANFIS-based model is simple, easy to use, and cost-effective with good accuracy as compared to existing models.
This study proposes an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS)-based rotor position controller for brushless direct current (BLDC) motors to improve the control performance of the drive under transient and steady-state conditions. The dynamic response of a BLDC motor to the proposed ANFIS controller is considered as standard reference input. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is compared with that of the proportional integral derivative (PID) controller and fuzzy PID controller. The proposed controller solves the problem of nonlinearities and uncertainties caused by the reference input changes of BLDC motors and guarantees a fast and accurate dynamic response with an outstanding steady-state performance. Furthermore, the ANFIS controller provides low torque ripples and high starting torque. The detailed study includes a MATLAB-based simulation and an experimental prototype to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed topology.

A fault is considered as a variation of physical parameters; therefore the design of fault detection and identification(FDI) can be reduced to the parameter identification of a non linear system and to the association of the set of the estimated parameters with the mode of faults. ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) which contains multiple linear models as consequent part is used to model non linear systems. In this paper, we proposes an FDI system for non linear systems using ANFIS. The proposed diagnositc system consists of two ANFISs which operate in two different modes (parallel-and series-parallel mode). It generates the parameter residuals associated with each modes of faults which can be further processed by additional RBF (Radial Basis function) network to identify the faults. The proposed FDI scheme has been tested by simultation on a two-tank system

This paper presents an efficient models for reinforeced concrete structures using CART-ANFIS(classification and regression tree-adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system). a fuzzy decision tree parttitions the input space of a data set into mutually exclusive regions, each of which is assigned a label, a value, or an action to characterize its data points. Fuzzy decision trees used for classification problems are often called fuzzy classification trees, and each terminal node contains a label that indicates the predicted class of a given feature vector. In the same vein, decision trees used for regression problems are often called fuzzy regression trees, and the terminal node labels may be constants or equations that specify the Predicted output value of a given input vector. Note that CART can select relevant inputs and do tree partitioning of the input space, while ANFIS refines the regression and makes it everywhere continuous and smooth. Thus it can be seen that CART and ANFIS are complementary and their combination constitutes a solid approach to fuzzy modeling.
In this study, the efficiency of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and genetic expression programming (GEP) in predicting the effects of infill walls on base reactions and roof drift of reinforced concrete frames were investigated. Current standards generally consider weight and fundamental period of structures in predicting base reactions and roof drift of structures by neglecting numbers of floors, bays, shear walls and infilled bays. Number of stories, number of bays in x and y directions, ratio of shear wall areas to the floor area, ratio of bays with infilled walls to total number bays and existence of open story were selected as parameters in GEP and ANFIS modeling. GEP and ANFIS have been widely used as alternative approaches to model complex systems. The effects of these parameters on base reactions and roof drift of RC frames were studied using 3D finite element method on 216 building models. Results obtained from 3D FEM models were used to in training and testing ANFIS and GEP models. In ANFIS and GEP models, number of floors, number of bays, ratio of shear walls and ratio of infilled bays were selected as input parameters, and base reactions and roof drifts were selected as output parameters. Results showed that the ANFIS and GEP models are capable of accurately predicting the base reactions and roof drifts of RC frames used in the training and testing phase of the study. The GEP model results better prediction compared to ANFIS model.
Signals of the Electroencephalogram (EEG) can reflect the electrical background activity of the brain generated by the cerebral cortex nerve cells. This has been the mostly utilized signal, which helps in effective analysis of brain functions by supervised learning methods. In this paper, an approach for improving the accuracy of EEG signal classification is presented to detect epileptic seizures. Moreover, Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is incorporated as a preprocessing step and Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) is used for denoising the signal adequately. Feature extraction of EEG signals is accomplished on the basis of three parameters namely, Standard Deviation, Correlation Dimension and Lyapunov Exponents. The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is trained by incorporating Levenberg-Marquardt(LM) training algorithm into the backpropagation algorithm that results in high classification accuracy. Experimental results reveal that the methodology will improve the clinical service of the EEG recording and also provide better decision making in epileptic seizure detection than the existing techniques. The proposed EEG signal classification using feed forward Backpropagation Neural Network performs better than to the EEG signal classification using Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) classifier in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity.
