As increasing the growth of the Internet in medical area, a new technology to transmit effectively massive medical data is required. In optical internet, all OBS nodes have fiber delay lines, hardware components. These components are calculated under some optimal traffic conditions, and this means that if the conditions change, then the components should be altered. Therefore, in this article a new service differentiation algorithm using the previously installed components is proposed, which is used although the conditions vary. When traffic conditions change, the algorithm dynamically recalculates the threshold value used to decide the length of data bursts. By doing so, irrelevant to changes, the algorithm can maintain the service differentiation between classes without replacing any fiber delay lines. With the algorithm, loss sensitive medical data can be transferred well.

Relay technology is becoming more important for mobile communications and wireless internet of things (IoT) networking because of the extended access network coverage range and reliable quality of service (QoS) it can provide at low power consumption levels. Existing mobile multihop relay (MMR) technology uses fixed-point stationary relay stations (RSs) and a divided time-frame (or frequency-band) to support the relay operation. This approach has limitations when a local fixed-point stationary RS does not exist. In addition, since the time-frame (or frequency-band) channel resources are pre-divided for the relay operation, there is no way to achieve high channel utilization using intelligent opportunistic techniques. In this paper, a different approach is considered, where the use of mobile/IoT devices as RSs is considered. In applications that use mobile/IoT devices as relay systems, due to the very limited battery energy of a mobile/IoT device and unequal channel conditions to and from the RS, both minimum energy consumption and QoS support must be considered simultaneously in the selection and configuration of RSs. Therefore, in this paper, a mobile RS is selected and configured with the objective of minimizing power consumption while satisfying end-to-end data rate and bit error rate (BER) requirements. For the RS, both downlink (DL) to the destination system (DS) (i.e., IoT device or user equipment (UE)) and uplink (UL) to the base station (BS) need to be adaptively configured (using adaptive modulation and power control) to minimize power consumption while satisfying the end-to-end QoS constraints. This paper proposes a minimum transmission power consuming RS selection and configuration (MPRSC) scheme, where the RS uses cognitive radio (CR) sub-channels when communicating with the DS, and therefore the scheme is named MPRSC-CR. The proposed MPRSC-CR scheme is activated when a DS moves out of the BS's QoS supportive coverage range. In this case, data transmissions between the RS and BS use the assigned primary channel that the DS had been using, and data transmissions between the RS and DS use CR sub-channels. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MPRSC-CR scheme extends the coverage range of the BS and minimizes the power consumption of the RS through optimal selection and configuration of a RS.

This paper studies a method for reducing performance degradation due to losing sub-carrier orthogonality caused by power transient between physical channels in LTE uplink transmission. The pattern of inter-carrier interference(ICI) caused by power transient is different from what has been studied for doppler shift, in that its pattern occurs at front and rear sides of channels in each period of power transient. The reason of ICI's occurrence results from power difference between channels, power transient duration, multi-path channel delay spread, and numbers of sub-carrier. New criterion is proposed to find out number of taps of multi-tap equalizer enough to improve the ICI. The scheme is to determine the number of taps of multi-tap equalizer when a normalized interference or a normalized ICI is greater than a normalized noise. Simulation results show that the number of taps is flexibly adjusted according to SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) of a received signal to improve Bit Error Rate(BER), while the complexity of the proposed scheme is reduced down to 88 percentage of the classical method.
Vehicular ad-hoc networks is temporarily established through inter-vehicle communication without any additional infrastructure aids. It requires a immediate message propagation because it mainly deals with critical traffic information such as traffic accidents. The distance-based broadcast scheme is one of the representative broadcast schemes for vehicular ad-hoc network. In this scheme, a node to disseminate messages is selected based on a distance from a source node. However, a message propagation delay will be increased if the relay nodes are not placed at the border of transmission range of the source node. In particular, when the node density is low, the message propagation delay is getting longer. In this paper, we propose a time-window reservation based relay node selection scheme. A node receiving the alert message from the source node has its time-window and randomly selects its waiting time within the given time-window range. A proportional time period of the given time-window is reserved in order to reduce the message propagation delay. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme has shorter message propagation delay than the distance-based broadcast scheme irrespective of node density in VANET. In particular, when the node density is low, the proposed scheme shows about 26% shorter delay and about 46% better performance in terms of compound metric, which is a function of propagation latency and network traffic.

The multi-band (MB) ultra-wideband (UWB) communication system divides its available frequency spectrum in 3.1 to 10.6GHz into 16 sub-bands, which leads to inherent disparities between carrier frequencies of each sub-band. For instance, the highest carrier frequency is 2.65 times higher than the lowest one. Since the propagation loss is proportional to the square of the transmission frequency, the propagation loss on the sub-band having the highest carrier frequency is approximately 7 times larger than that on the sub-band having the lowest carrier frequency, which results in disparities between received signal powers on each sub-band. In this paper, we propose a novel correlation scheme for frequency hopping (FH) MB UWB communications, where the correlation time is adaptively adjusted relative to the sub-band, which reduces the disparity between the received signal energies on each sub-band. Such compensation for lower received powers on sub-bands having higher carrier frequency leads to an improvement on the total average bit error rate (BER) of the entire FH MB UWB communication system. We analyze the performance of the proposed correlation scheme in Nakagami fading channels, and it is shown that the performance gain provided by the proposed correlator is more significant as the Nakagami fading index n increases (i.e., better channel conditions).

In this paper, a new adaptive resource allocation scheme is proposed in orthogonal frequency-division multiple access(OFDMA) systems with rate proportionality constraints. The problem of maximizing the overall system capacity with constraints on bit error rate, total transmission power and rate-proportionality for user requiring different classes of service is formulated. Since the optimal solution to the constrained fairness problem is extremely complex to obtain, a low-complexity suboptimal algorithm that separates subchannel allocation and power allocation is proposed. Firstly, the number of subchannels to be assigned to each user is determined based on the users' average signal-to-noise ratio and rate-proportion. Subchannels are subsequently distributed according to the modified max-min criterion. Lastly, based on the subchannel allocation, the optimal power allocation by solving the Language dual problem is proposed. Additionally, in order to reduce the computational complexity, iterative rate proportionality tracking algorithm is proposed for maximizing the capacity together with maintaining the rate proportionality constraint.

In recent years, rate control is an important technique in real time video communication applications using H.264/AVC. Many existing rate control algorithms employ the quadratic rate-distortion model, which is determine the target bits for each P frame. In this paper, a new rate control algorithm for transmission of H.264/AVC video bit stream through CBR(Constant Bit Rate) channel is proposed. The proposed algorithm predicts an adaptive QP(Quantization Parameter) for improving video distortion, due to high motion and abruptly scene change, which target bit rate and MAD(Mean of Absolute Difference) for current frame considering image complexity variance between previous and current frames. Additionally, it uses frame skip technique to maintain bit stream within a manageable range and protect buffer from overflow or underflow. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives a quality improvement of about 0.5dB when compared to previous rate control algorithm. Also our proposed algorithm encodes the video sequences with less frame skipping compared to the existing rate control for H.264/AVC.

EZW proposed by Shapiro is based on a zerotree constructed in a way that a parent coefficient in a subband is related to four child coefficients in the next finer subband of similar orientation. This fixed treeing based on 1-to-4 parent-child is suitable to exploti hierachical correlations among subbands but not to exploit spatial correlations within a subband. A new treeing by Joo, et al. is suggested to simulatneously exploit those two correlatins by extending parent-child relationship in a flexible way. The flexible treeing leads to increasing the number of symbols and lowering entorpy comparing to the fixed treeing, and therefore a better compression can be resulted. In this paper, we suggest two techniques to suppress the increasing of symbols. First, a probing bit is generated to avoid redundant scan for insignivicant coefficients. Second, since all subbands do not always require the same kind of symbol-set, produced symbols are re-symbolized into binary codes according to a pre-defined procedure. Owing to those techniques, all symbols are generated as binary codes. The binary symbols can be entropy-coded by an adaptive arithmetic coding. Moerover, the binary symbol stream can give comparatively good performances without help of additional entropy coding. Our proposed coding scheme is suggested in two modes: binary coding mode and arithmetic coding mode. We evaluate the effectivenessof our modifications by comparing with the original EZW.

We consider a window-controlled selective-repeat ARQ scheme for error control between two adjacent nodes lying on a communication path. In this scheme, each packet to be transmitted is endowed with a serial number in a cyclic and sequential fashion. In turn, the transmitting node is not allowed to transmit a packet belonging to a window before every packet in the previous window is positively acknowledged. Such postponement of packet transmission incurs a degradation in throughput and delay performance. In this paper, aiming at improving packet delay performance, we employs a supplement scheme in which a serial number is duplicated within a frame. Classifying duplication rules into fixed, random and adaptive categories, we present candidate rules in each category and evaluate the packet delay performance induced by each duplication rule. From numerical examples, we observe that duplicating serial numbers, especially ADR-T2 effectively reduces mean packet delay for the forward channel characterized by a low packet error rate. We also reveal that such delay enhancement is achieved by a high probability of hitting local optimal window size.

VANET technologies provide real-time traffic information for mitigating traffic jam and preventing traffic accidents, as well as in-vehicle infotainment service through Telematics/Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Due to the rapid increasement of various requirements, the vehicle communication with a limited resource and the fixed frame architecture of the conventional techniques is limited to provide an efficient communication service. Therefore, a new flexible operation depending on the surrounding situation information is required that needs an adaptive design of the network architecture and protocol for efficiently predicting, distributing and sharing the context-aware information. In this paper, Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) based on communication between vehicle and a Road Side Units (RSU) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) based on communication between vehicles are effectively combined in a new MAC architecture and V2I and V2V vehicles collaborate in management. As a result, many vehicles and RSU can use more efficiently the resource and send data rapidly. The simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve high resource utilization in accordance. Also we can find out the optimal transmission relay time and 2nd relay vehicle selection probability value to spread out V2V/V2I collaborative schedule message rapidly.
