Estimation of the Lodging Area in Rice Using Deep Learning (딥러닝을 이용한 벼 도복 면적 추정)

  • Rice lodging is an annual occurrence caused by typhoons accompanied by strong winds and strong rainfall, resulting in damage relating to pre-harvest sprouting during the ripening period. Thus, rapid estimations of the area of lodged rice are necessary to enable timely responses to damage. To this end, we obtained images related to rice lodging using a drone in Gimje, Buan, and Gunsan, which were converted to 128 × 128 pixels images. A convolutional neural network (CNN) model, a deep learning model based on these images, was used to predict rice lodging, which was classified into two types (lodging and non-lodging), and the images were divided in a 8:2 ratio into a training set and a validation set. The CNN model was layered and trained using three optimizers (Adam, Rmsprop, and SGD). The area of rice lodging was evaluated for the three fields using the obtained data, with the exception of the training set and validation set. The images were combined to give composites images of the entire fields using Metashape, and these images were divided into 128 × 128 pixels. Lodging in the divided images was predicted using the trained CNN model, and the extent of lodging was calculated by multiplying the ratio of the total number of field images by the number of lodging images by the area of the entire field. The results for the training and validation sets showed that accuracy increased with a progression in learning and eventually reached a level greater than 0.919. The results obtained for each of the three fields showed high accuracy with respect to all optimizers, among which, Adam showed the highest accuracy (normalized root mean square error: 2.73%). On the basis of the findings of this study, it is anticipated that the area of lodged rice can be rapidly predicted using deep learning.

  • The etiology of masseteric hypertrophy is obscure. When the hypertrophy occurs unilaterally it's appearance is more striking because of the resultant facial asymmetry. Two soldiers were admitted with the complaint of a lump on their jaws. The authors obtained good results on the esthetic & functional aspect in two cases of unilateral masseteric hypertrophy with the Adam's method. The etiology was thought to be the combination of unilateral masticatory and jaw clenching habits when emotionally disturbed or under nervous tension in army services.

  • This paper describes operating and capacitor voltage balancing of the modular multilevel converter. The paper focuses on sizing of the cell capacitor and establishes approximate expressions for the capacitor voltage. Simulations and experiments results obtained from three-level modular converter are used to demonstrate its viability in medium voltage applications. It is shown that the modular converter can operate over the full modulation index linear range independent of load power factor.

Infrared Transmitting Glass Ceramics for Passive and Active Applications

  • Glass-ceramics transparent above $10\;{\mu}m$ in the infrared, have been synthesized. They are based on germanium and antimony sulphides or selenides associated to alkali halides. They are prepared by heating glass samples at temperatures above the glass transition, as a function of time. Ceramisation can be controlled, so that sub-100 nm crystals are generated in the glass matrix. Then, low light scattering is achieved and the transparency window of the original glass is maintained. When gallium sulphide is added, glass ceramics can be doped with rare-earth ions. Emissions from the $^4F_{3/2}$ and $^4I_{13/2}$ of $Nd^{3+}$ and $Er^{3+}$ ions, respectively, are more intense in glass-ceramics, as compared to their vitreous counterpart. Examination of band profiles and decaytimes show that rare-earth ions are embedded in both crystalline and glassy environments.

  • Dynamic analysis of the KTX can predict the dynamic motions in test drive. In this study an analytical model of the KTX is developed to find the critical speed. The numerical analysis for the nonlinear equation motions of 17 degrees of freedom shows the running stability and the critical speed due to the hunting motion of the KTX. Also, the vibration modes of the KTX are calculated using the ADAM/RAIL software, which show that the critical speed occurs for the yawing modes of the car body and the bogie. Finally, this paper shows that the critical speed of the KTX could be changed with the modifications of the design parameters of wheel conicity or wheel contact length.

  • An analysis of handling characteristics of a vehicle is performed for step and pulse steering input, which may be very useful in suspension design stage. Many developed computer programs for vehicle dynamics require test data of compliance effects for proto type car. Therefore, these programs are not suitable for automobile development stage. Using the raw design data of suspension and steering system, we analyze the vehicle behavior for step and pulse steering input with commercial multibody dynamics program, ADAMS. Simulated results are in good agreement with vehicle test results. Vehicle handling characteristics parameters which are very useful in automobile suspension design are evaluated from the analysis.

  • SunPower's corporate mission is to reduce the installed cost of solar electricity 50% by 2012. As part of that mission, the company is continually exploring novel technologies that might enable progress towards the goal. This paper describes SunPower's efforts to decrease the levelized cost of electricity for solar power plants through the use of bifacial cell and system technology. The results of the first production run of SunPower bifacial cells and modules are presented. Future bifacial system development plans are reviewed.

  • Modeling creep of concrete has been one of the most challenging problems in concrete. Over the years, research has proven the significance of creep and its ability to influence structural behavior through loss of prestress, violation of serviceability limit states or stress redistribution. Because of this, interest in modeling and simulation of creep has grown significantly. A research program was planned to investigate the significance of different factors affecting creep of concrete. This research investigation is divided into two folds: first, an in-depth study of the RILEM creep database and development of a homogenous database that can be used for blind computational analysis. Second: developing a probabilistic Bayesian screening method that enables identifying the significance of the different factors affecting creep of concrete. The probabilistic analysis revealed a group of interacting parameters that seem to significantly influence creep of concrete.

구속 받는 유연 매니퓨레이터의 병렬 위치/힘 제어

  • 본 논문에서는 환경에 구속 받는 유연 매니퓨레이터의 힘/위치에 대하여 논하고자 한다. 일반적으로, 유연 매니퓨레이터의 모델링 방법은 분포 정수 모델과 집중 정수 모델로 분류할 수 있다. 전자인 분포 정수 모델을 이용해서는 평면 1 링크, 2 링크를 대상으로 한 위치/힘 제어는 가능하나, 운동 방정식의 복잡성으로 인하여 실시간에서 다 링크 다 관절 유연 매니퓨레이터의 힘/위치를 제어하기는 어렵게 여겨져 왔다. 본 논문에서는 집중 정수 모델링 방법인 집중 스프링 질량 모델(Lumped Spring Mass Model)을 이용하여 환경에 구속받는 유연 매니퓨레이터의 운동 방정식을 산출했다 이 모델을 실험기인 유연 매니퓨레이터 ADAM(Aerospace Dual Arm Manipulators)에 적용하여 실시간 위치/힘 제어 실험을 행하였으며, MATLAB를 이용하여 해석했다. 또한, ADAMS$^{TM}$ FEM를 이용하여 분포 정수 모델을 도출하여, 해석하였으며, 이 결과와 집중 정수 모델을 이용한 MATLAB 해석의 결과, 그리고 실험 결과를 비교 분석하여 본 논문에서 제안한 구속받는 유연 매니퓨레이터의 집중 정수 모델 타당성을 입증시켰다.

  • Vehicle stability is a very important subject in vehicle design and control, because vehicle safety is closely dependent upon its dynamic stability. For the vehicle stability analysis, the nonlinear vehicle model of a mid-size car with three DOF - longitudinal, lateral and yaw - is employed. A rigorous method is used to determine the vehicle stability region in plane motion. An algorithm is used to materialize a topology theorem, which enables to find the exact stability region. A stability criterion for the critical cornering is proposed.
