  • 기존의 MANET 환경에서 동작하는 계층화된 데이터 전송 프로토콜은 각 계층이 독립적인 기능을 수행하기 때문에 노드의 이동 상황에 따라 변하는 네트워크 환경을 잘 반영하지 못하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 라우팅 계층과 MAC 계층 간의 상호 작용을 통하여 MANET의 2-홉 거리에 있는 노드 수를 반영하여 더 우수한 성능을 나타내는 Cross-Layer 모델 기반의 브로트캐스트 기법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 Cross-Layer 모델은 IEEE 802.11 MAC 프로토콜을 수정하여 이동 노드 주위의 상태에 따라 브로드캐스트 패킷을 적응적으로 전송하도록 동작한다.

  • In the IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), network nodes experiencing collisions on the shared channel need to backoff for a random period of time. which is uniformly selected from the Contention Window (CW) This contention window is dynamically controlled by the Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm. The BEB scheme suffers from a unfairness problem and low throughput under high traffic load. In this paper, I propose a new backoff algorithm for use with the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function.

  • Several VHF bands for the use in analog communications has been changed to those for the use in new maritime digital communications by WRC-12. ITU-R M. 1842-1 has been also standardized, recommending the characteristics of maritime digital communication systems. In addition, a Shipborne Ad-hoc Network (SANET) has been introduced by IMO in order to provide ships, which cannot be connected to a shore directly, with maritime digital data exchange services with the help of ad-hoc communication. In this paper, several functionalities of the SANET, including channel access, route determination to a shore, and data exchange, are verified via sea trials. It is expected that the SANET can be applicable to collecting and analyzing maritime information, facilitating the entry and departure of vessels, and the communication infrastructure of e-navigation.

  • Conventional topology-based routing protocols are not suitable for inter-vehicular communication, where frequent route updates are necessary due to continuous and abrupt changes in network topology Position-based routing protocols are widely accepted to better serve their purpose in such a scenario as they do not require path discovery or maintenance. However they have to deal with the overhead of the location service and inaccurate position information. This paper proposes the MMFP (Multi-hop MAC Forwarding Protocol) for inter-vehicle communication that relies on reachability information collected from received packets in making a forwarding decision without path discovery. The MMFP is designed as an extension to the IEEE 802.11 MAC layer to ensure accuracy in its time-critical operations. This paper also presents some simulation results that demonstrate the superior performance of the MMFP over AODV in a realistic inter-vehicular communication.

Medium Access Control Using Channel Reservation Scheme in Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks (해양센서네트워크에서 채널예약방식을 이용한 매체접근제어)

  • In this paper, we propose a medium access control(MAC) protocol for reducing the energy efficiency and for improving the transmission efficiency in underwater acoustic sensor networks. In underwater environment, the transmission delay is longer and bandwidth is smaller than terrestrial environment. Considering these points, we propose a new MAC protocol to enhance throughput and to manage efficiently the energy of nodes. The proposed protocol operates as a channel reservation scheme to decrease data collisions, and uses a mechanism to control the hidden node problem and the exposed node problem occurred in ad hoc networks. The proposed protocol consists of the slotted based transmission frame and reduces data collisions between nodes by putting separately the reservation period in the transmission frame. In addition, it is able to solve the hidden node problem and the exposed node problem by reservation information between nodes. We carry out the simulation to evaluate the proposed protocol in terms of the average energy consumption, the ratio of collision, throughput, and the average transmission delay, and compare the proposed protocol to a traditional MAC protocol in the underwater environment. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol outperforms the traditional protocol under a various of network parameters.

  • IEEE 802.11 WLAN uses CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance) method in MAC(Media Access Control) protocol, and through the carrier sense checks whether other users use the channel during the data transmission to avoid the data collision. Currently, IEEE 802.11 standard recommends the use of a fixed threshold which gives an impact on carrier sensing range. However, the existing scheme using the fixed threshold causes the operation of network to be inefficiency owing to the mobility in MANET(Mobile Ad hoc NETwork). In this paper, we found the better network throughput to be obtained by applying the proposed scheme, which chooses properly the carrier sensing threshold and transmission rate considering SINR(Signal to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio), to the MANET.

  • Depending on the type of Tx-Rx pairs, VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) for maritime communication is expected to employ the different frequency channels. Load imbalance between the different channels turns out to be a critical problem for the multi-hop communication using Ad-hoc Self-Organizing TDMA (ASO-TDMA) MAC protocol, which has been proposed to provide the connectivity between land station and remote ship stations. In order to handle the inter-channel load imbalance problem, we consider a model of the stochastic geomety in this paper. After analyzing the spatial reuse efficiency in each hop region by the given model, we show that the resource utility can be maximized by balancing the inter-channel traffic load with optimal resource allocation in each hop region.

  • In multi-hop ad hoc networks, multi-interface multi-channel architecture is being noticing as methodology to improve the effective bandwidth and end-to-end throughput, But since existing routing metrics designed for networks based on single-interface exactly can not reflects the nature of networks based on multi-interface multi-channel, we are not expected the effect of throughput improvement. there had been proposal of MCR that discover high throughput by using metrics such as channel diversity and interface switching cost. however, MCR have an problem that is degraded it's performance in congested networks, because it not reflects the impact of traffic load. in this paper, we propose MAMCR metric, which select high throughput paths under congested conditions by combination MCR with channel access time metric, and conform it's the effect of performance improvement by ns-2 simulation.

  • Wireless sensor networks use battery-operated computing and sensing devices. And It can be expected to be deployed in an ad hoc networs. MAC is different from traditional wireless MACs such as IEEE 802.11 in almost every way. so self-configuration and power saving in sensor network are very important goals, while per-node fairness and latency are less important. In this paper, so we use a given prototype for efficient energy conservation to reduce power consumtion that is one of the important character in sensor network and compare energy consumption and collision with IEEE 802.11 MAC. finally we conclude the paper and analyze it.
