Objectives: This case report is to present a complete recovery from Kaposi's varicelliform eruption (KVE) that occurred in a patient with atopic dermatitis by applying Korean Medicine therapies. Methods: Hwangyeonhaedoktang pharmacopuncture (HP), 0.3 mL, and 25% bee venom pharmacopuncture (BVP), 0.1 mL, were injected, 0.2 mL each, at both BL13 acupoints once a day in the morning. Acupuncture was applied at Sama Upper, Middle and Lower of the Master Tung acupuncture points and at ST44 on the left lateral for 30 minutes twice a day. The affected face was gauze dressed with mixture of 2.0 mL HP and 1.0 mL 25% BVP with 20 mL of normal saline twice a day. Herbal Medicine, Seungmagalgeuntang, was administered three times a day after each meal. Results: Rashes and papules on the face were completely cleared after 10 days of treatments. Conclusion: KVE, an acute and urgent dermatitis, can be effectively treated with Korean medicine.

The conventional direct and indirect moxibustion therapies for prostatism treatment could not been applied to the acupuncture point of CV 1( Conception Vessel Meridian 1) because of its boring body region. In order to get rid of these problems we have suggested the moxa-pad cauterizer especially for prostatism. We have implemented the moxa-pad moxibustion cauterizer especially for the prostatism. The experimental demonstrations have been made by the stimulating the spots which are CV-1(Conception Vessel Meridian 1), B-28(Bladder Meridian 28), and CV-3(Conception Vessel Meridian 3) acupuncture points. And stimulating time was one hour with moxa-pad cauterizer.

Objectives The study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Hyungtonghaeul-tang along with Korean medicine treatment for fibromyalgia syndrome. Methods A patient with fibromyalgia syndrome was treated with Hyungtonghaeul-tang as well as Korean medical treatment including acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, bee venom therapy, chuna, aromatherapy, and physical therapy. The counts of tenderness points, widespread pain index (WPI), symptom severity scale score (SS scale score), digital infrared thermal imaging (DITI), Ryodoraku diagnosis, visual analogue scale (VAS), fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (FIQ), and beck depression inventory (BDI) were measured. Results After treatment, the counts of tenderness point, WPI, SS scale score, VAS, FIQ, and BDI were decreased. The DITI and the Ryodoraku pattern recovered normally. Conclusions Hyungtonghaeul-tang along with Korean medicine treatment can be used in the treatment of fibromyalgia syndrome.

Objective This is a previous study for including traditional Korean medical terms into the UMLS(The Unified Medical Language System) and achieving the interoperability between various medical systems. Method First, the traditional medical terms were divided into 4 categories : basic theory, acupuncture, herb and formulae. And then, searching these terms through metathesaurus in UMLSKS(UMLS Knowledge Source Server), terminology information was investigated and analyzed. Results In the case of TM title, traditional Korean medicine was categorized as different semantic type from Traditional medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine and Kampo medicine. Acupuncture points were described only as abbreviation and herbs were conceptualized inconsistently, as some belonged to scientific name and some belonged to Chinese pronunciation. Formulaes are described as Chinese, Japanese and Korean pronunciations. Conclusions More research is needed on diagnosis/disease terms and semantic types for the unique concepts in traditional Korean medicine in order to including the international standard.

This study was designed to examine the clincotherapeutic effect of natural honeybee (Apis mellifera) venom in sows with mastitis, metritis and agalactia (MMA) syndrome. Sows with MMA syndrome after parturition were assigned to treated and nontreated control groups. In treated group, 22 sows were bee acupunctured once a day for 3 consecutive days. Acupuncture points of Jiao-chao (GV-1, at the indentation between the base of tail and the anus), Yang-ming (ST-18, outside at the base of teat) and Hai-men (ST-25, about 1 cm lateral to the umbilicus) were stung by the natural honeybees. In control group, 20 sows were intramuscularly injected with a standard dosage of penicillin G (400,000 IU/kg of body weight) once a day for 3 consecutive days. At post-treatment, 85.0% of control sows and 90.9% of sows in treated group recovered from MMA syndrome. Bee acupuncture therapy didn't show any side effects such as allergy, intoxication, hemorrhage, or infection. It might be concluded that apitherapy was effective in controlling of sows with MMA syndrome.

Biophotons from three healthy subject's hands were measured every Friday for one year. The correlation coefficients between the left and right palms were found to be 9.0, and a similar value was also obtained between the left and right back of hands. However, the correlations between the palm and back of a hand turned out to be low, on the average only 0.5. These results are consistent with the result of Zhang's $CO_2$ production rate experiments on the acupuncture points. The high correlation between the left and right, and the low correlation between the palm and back are interpreted according to the acupuncture theory of meridians. The palm and the back correspond to the yin and yang meridians, respectively. And their behaviors are rather opposite, thus they show low correlations.

In this study, we evaluated the effects of herbal medicine, acupuncture and language therapy in a patient with fluent aphasia after stroke. We treated the patient with Jihwangumja, special acupuncture points and Language-Oriented Treatment(LOT). The language abilities of the patient in this study was markedly increased in Korean-Western Aphasia Battery(K-WAB) and Communicative Ability in Daily Living Test(CADLT). Aphasia quotient, fluency, comprehension, repetition and naming score of K-WAB were improved in second and third examination compared with those of the first examination. Each item of CADLT was improved in second examination compared with that of the first examination.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of food intake on radial pulse amplitude. Methods : Thirty one healthy male subjects participated in this study. Radial pulse was measured using 3 dimensional pulse imaging system (DMP-3000) before, right after, 40 minutes after, 80 minutes after and 120 minutes after food intake. Results : 1. The amplitude of h1 increased significantly right after food intake compared to 'before food intake' at all 6 measuring points. Later on, it decreased back as time passed, however, even 120 minutes later, it was still higher than 'before food intake' 2. Pulse energy, which is calculated from pulse waves acquired with five sensors, increased after food intake as well. Conclusions : Food intake exerts an influence on radial pulse amplitude, resulting in increase of h1 and pulse energy.

This study interprets the records of Bianque (醫案) as a medicine practice rather than a simple legend or story, and analyzes its effect on the development of oriental medicine. It also compares aspects of the Bianque related to patient treatment as described in 『韓非子』, 『韓詩外傳』, 『史記』, and reinterpreted using other contemporary literature. The clairvoyant power of 『史記』 「扁鵲傳」 was created by Sama-Cheon(司馬遷) exaggerating the pulse diagnosis with clairvoyance. The contents of the treatment of Sogan-Ja(趙簡子)'s confusion affairs in the first agenda, show that Bianque master the pulse diagnosis. The contents of the treatment of Kwek-Seja(虢世子)'s disease in the second agenda is a record of knowledge of acupuncture using acupuncture points. The content of refusal of treatment in the third agenda, 腠理, 肌膚, 腸胃, 骨髓 and the progression of the disease and the corresponding treatment of 湯熨, 鍼石, 火齊 are specified in detail. From the content of Bianque, he was not a martial art, but a doctor who practiced medicine, and contributed to the development of the pulse diagnosis.

Objectives : This study is to report the effect of Pharmacopuncture therapy on a patient suffering from the pain and cold intolerance of hand caused by Carpal tunnel syndrome with Raynaud's phenomenon. Methods : We had treated the patient diagnosed as Carpal tunnel syndrome with Raynaud's phenomenon by Sweet BV and CF pharmacopuncture. We injected Sweet BV and CF into acupuncture points on both hands - Sweet BV into Baxie (EX-UE9), CF into Naegwan ($PC_6$) and Daereung ($PC_7$). And then we evaluated her symptoms by VAS (Visual Analog Scale). Results : Clinical symptoms about Carpal tunnel syndrome with Raynaud's phenomenon were remarkably improved by Sweet BV and CF Pharmacopuncture. Conclusion : Therefore, we concluded that pharmacopuncture therapy - Sweet BV, CF etc. - may be useful to treat Carpal tunnel syndrome with Raynaud's phenomenon.
