This paper presents active antenna diplexers implemented into an ultra-wideband CPW(Coplanar Waveguide) fed monopole antennas. The proposed active antenna diplexer is designed to direct interconnect the output port of a wideband antenna to the input port of two active(HEMT) devices, where the impedance matching conditions of the proposed active integrated antenna are optimized by adjusting CPW(Coplanar Waveguide) feed line to be the length of 1/20 $\lambda_0$(@5.8 GHz) in planar type wideband antenna. The measured bandwidth of the active integrated antenna shows the range from 2.0 GHz to 3.1 GHz and from 5.25 GHz to 5.9 GHz. The measured peak gains are 17.0 dB at 2.4 GHz and 15.0 dB at 5.5 GHz.

In this paper, the 5-bit digital phase shiftier with 10 InGaAs HEMTs is designed and fabricated for U.S. mobile DBS receiving active phased array antenna system in 12 GHz band. 11.25 $^{\circ}$, 22.5$^{\circ}$ and 45$^{\circ}$ phase bits are designed in leaded-line type. 90$^{\circ}$ and 180$^{\circ}$ phase bits are designed in reflection type combined with ring hybrid. The return loss more than 17.5 ㏈, insertion louts less than 7.8 ㏈, and maximum phase error of $\pm$6$^{\circ}$for 32 phase responses are measured in 12.2 GHz~ 12.7 GHz band.

The waveguide slotted active phased array radar is characterized in that the beam is tilt in a specific direction when the feeding position of the antenna is not in the center of the antenna. If the beam deflection phenomenon is not properly compensated, error bias is generated in the target information collected by the radar, and the target accuracy is lowered. In this paper, we describe a technique to compensate the error of the target information that is collected in the active phased array radar of the waveguide slot type instead of the center of the antenna.

As the latest weapon systems and electronic equipments are increasingly demanding stealth technology to improve the survivability of allies, it is necessary to implement low-observability technology that reduces the radar cross section(RCS). In order to implement this stealth technology, a method for low RCS characteristics by applying a shape design or a electromagnetic wave absorber is widely used. However, active phased array antennas have structural limitations in shape design, also when a absorber is applied to it, the performance of the antenna is degraded. Therefore, in this paper, in order to realize the low RCS characteristics of the active phased array antenna operating in the X-band, individual radiating elements suitable for applying the radio wave absorber were selected, and a 13x13 array antenna was designed and manufactured. Next, by comparing the measured results of the relative RCS and electrical performance for the manufactured antenna according to the presence and type of the absorber, it is shown that the electrical performance is maintained at an equal or higher level while obtaining the low RCS characteristics. Thereby the method proposed in this paper for implementing the low RCS characteristics was validated. Finally, it was confirmed that when the wave absorber is applied to the array antenna, the limitation of its performance deterioration can be overcome.

This paper presents self-oscillating mixer(SOM) with simple structure which includes dc source, a cross type groove, and a three terminal GaAsFET. By using parasitic elements such as cooper wires, If level of the active antenna is increased. In order to include active device into FDTD analysis, equivalent voltage source are used to substitute for the active device and to describe the voltage-current relationships. This approach is applied to analyze SOM theoretically.

Active array radar is evolving into digital active array radar. Digital active array radar has many advantages for making several simultaneous radar beams from the digital receive data of each element. A digital-type transceiver(TR) module is suitable for this goal in radar. In this work, the design results of an L-band digital TR module are presented to verify the possibility of fabrication for a digital active array antenna. This L-band digital TR module consists of a gallium-nitride-type HPA to achieve a more than 350-W peak output power and one-chip transceivers that include a digital waveform generator and analog digital converter. The receiving gain was 47 dB, the noise figure was less than 2 dB, and the final output type of the four channel receiving paths was one optic signal.

In this paper, a performance enhancement study of an AESA antenna that can be applied to a seeker that serves as the eye of a missile was conducted, and the performance of the antenna was verified through actual measurement. When designing an AESA antenna, the optimization of the active reflection coefficient must be considered during transmission due to the mutual coupling between radiators that inevitably occurs, and the selection of a radiator that can overcome the space limitation of the seeker with a small size/light weight is an important design consideration. Accordingly, optimization in terms of electrical performance and low-profile structure is required through research on array antennas for application to the AESA structure. The radiator designed and measured in this paper was designed as an SFN that can satisfy the low-profile structure while enhancing the performance of a general vivaldi antenna. Through this paper, it was confirmed that SFN has the same broadband characteristics as general vivaldi antennas and has optimized characteristics required for AESA antennas. The structure optimized through simulation confirmed the pattern characteristics and active reflection coefficient characteristics through the fabrication of actual proto-type antennas.
An antenna-coupled bolometer-type terahertz sensor was designed, fabricated, evaluated, and utilized to obtain terahertz transmission images. The sensor consists of a thin film bowtie antenna that resonates accordingly in response to an incident terahertz beam, a heater that converts the applied current in the antenna into heat, and a microbolometer that converts the rise in temperature into a change in resistance. The device is fabricated by a bulk micromachining process on a 4-inch silicon wafer. The fabricated sensor chip has a size of $2{\times}2mm$ and an active area of $0.1{\times}0.1mm^2$. The temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of the bolometer film (VOx) is 2.0%, which is acceptable for bolometer applications. The output sensor signal is proportional to the power of the incident terahertz beam. Transmission images were obtained with a 2-axis scanning imaging system that contained the sensor. The small active area of the sensor will enable the development of highly sensitive focal plane array sensors in terahertz imaging cameras in the future.
In this paper, the circular polarized horn antenna composed of circular polarizer and impedance transformer is designed, and fabricated. For the circular polarizer, two types of the polarizer are designed and the electrical performance of them is compared; rectangular waveguide polarizer with $45^{\circ}$-inclined dielectric slab and oval shaped one. Straight type mode converter has a stepped impedance structure and plays a role of converting waveguide TE mode into coaxial TEM mode, and the proposed antenna is designed to directly connect with active components using the feed-through in the input port of the mode converter. Fabricated antenna has the wideband performance, VSWR<1.5 and Axial ratio < 1.0dB, ranging from 30.085 to 30.885 GHz, and the antenna gain is 6.7~7.0 dBi.

The Real Time Location System (RTLS) is very important in the ubiquitous society for real time tracking of men, high price assets, and logistics products. In this work, we developed an active RF system for RTLS and tested its performance. The RTLS system developed in this work was constructed of three active readers and one active tag. The small size tag developed in this work operated with a coin type battery. To make the tag smaller, we used an internal PCB antenna and a chip antenna. We tested the performance of the tag. To reduce the manufacturing cost of our RF system, we used low price RF transceiver CC2510 chip-set. The CC2510 chip-set provided RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator) signal which could be used to determine the distances between an active tag and three active readers.
