There are trying to reduce damage from automobile accident in many countries. In many automobile companies, there have been active study on development of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) for commercialization, in order to reduce damage from automobile accident. ADAS is the system providing convenience and safeness for drivers. Generally, ADAS is composed of ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System), and AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking). AEB of the ADAS, it is an autonomous emergency braking system and it senses potential collide and avoids or degrades it. Therefore AEB plays a significant role in reducing automobile accident rate. However, AEB safety evaluation method is not established not yet. For this reason, this study suggests safety evaluation scenarios with adding cut-in, sensor malfunctioning scenario that scenario domestic street conditions considered as well as original standard AEB scenario of Euro NCAP for establishment of safety evaluation method of AEB. And verifying validity of suggested scenario by comparing the calculated values of the theoretical formulas presented in the previous study with results of the actual vehicle test.
Hydrogen is a clean fuel and is used in many applications in power systems such as fuel cells. It has unique properties such as wide flammability, high burning velocity, and difficulty to liquefy, which lead to critical safety issues. Fire and explosion are the most frequently occurring accidents and one of the major reasons is autoignition. In the ignition process, the chemistry of hydrogen combustion depends mainly on radical pools, and the temperature at which chain-branching and terminating rates are equal is called the crossover temperature. This study addresses the homogeneous autoignition of diluted hydrogen-air mixtures to investigate the effects of dilution on the crossover temperature to prevent explosions in the future. The new criterion for crossover temperature is introduced by only hydrogen radicals to adjust more simply. The detailed calculations indicate that the crossover temperatures are low at high dilutions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen because the concentrations of active radicals are reduced when an inert gas is added. This result is expected to contribute to hydrogen safety and realize a hydrogen society in the future.
The basic point of a vehicle recall is to remove vehicle defects as soon as possible and thus prevent possible road traffic accidents caused by the defects beforehand. Therefore, the core of vehicle recall under the self-certification system consists of a timely response and fast remedy of defects. The present study aimed to deduce a plan for improvement of the system necessary for the fast remedy of defects through a phased analysis of defect investigation procedure based on defect investigation statistical data. There will be a need to make the TSB(Technical Service Bulletin) or service campaign data submission of a manufacturer compulsory for the collection of broad defect information in the stage of information analysis and to impose a higher penalty when the manufacturer violates the data submission in the investigation stage. In addition, it is considered that an active service campaign should be induced and a punishment for late recall will be needed for consumer protection.
Recently, the safety in vehicle also has become a hot topic as self-driving car is developed. In passive safety systems such as airbags and seat belts, the system is being changed into an active system that actively grasps the status and behavior of the passengers including the driver to mitigate the risk. Furthermore, it is expected that it will be possible to provide customized services such as seat deformation, air conditioning operation and D.W.D (Distraction While Driving) warning suitable for the passenger by using occupant information. In this paper, we propose robust vehicle occupant detection algorithm based on RGB-Depth-Thermal camera for obtaining the passengers information. The RGB-Depth-Thermal camera sensor system was configured to be robust against various environment. Also, one of the deep learning algorithms, OpenPose, was used for occupant detection. This algorithm is advantageous not only for RGB image but also for thermal image even using existing learned model. The algorithm will be supplemented to acquire high level information such as passenger attitude detection and face recognition mentioned in the introduction and provide customized active convenience service.

Atmospheric corrosion poses a significant threat to durability of metallic materials and safety of structures, making precise prediction of corrosion rates crucial in industrial and engineering settings. Understanding the exact rate of corrosion is essential. However, accurate inclusion of various environmental factors that can influence atmospheric corrosion in the calculation of corrosion rate is a complex challenge. This study introduces a physics-based model that incorporates electrochemical methods and considers active surface area affected by surface contaminants to estimate atmospheric corrosion rate of carbon steel. The model can evaluate corrosion levels using key factors such as chloride deposition rate, relative humidity, and the presence of surface particles. By integrating these considerations, this model moves beyond empirical estimations, providing a more stable prediction of corrosion rate that is less susceptible to environmental variations. This model provides a robust tool for defense applications, offering precise insights into the dynamics of atmospheric corrosion that could enhance the maintenance and safety of weapon systems.

Recently, sterilization technology has received increasing interest due to the COVID-19 pandemic and required safety precautions. Particularly, sterilization devices using near ultraviolet (UV) with a 405 nm wavelength are also drawing attention. It has a UV-C wavelength and other sterilization effects. Its blue-colored light on the boundary between UV and visible light is used as a light-emitting diode (LED) lamp for 405 nm sterilization, owing to its longer wavelengths than UV rays. However, the 405 nm wavelength contains blue light that can damage the eyes and skin during prolonged exposures and affect the emotional and biological parts of the body. Currently, 405 nm sterilization LED light registers are circulating in the market. However, they have not undergone safety tests for blue-light hazards. Thus, with the active distribution of sterilization LED lights, solid safety standards and management systems are essential to protect users from blue-light hazards. Accordingly, in this study, we conducted spectral radiance and spectral radiative luminance tests on 405 nm sterilization LED registers available in the market by the measurement criteria of IEC 62471. Safety standards must be established to secure users' safety against blue light hazards at a time when 405nm sterilization LED lights are actively distributed due to COVID-19.
In this paper, a complete station blackout (SBO) or complete loss of electrical power supplies is simulated and analyzed in a downward cooling 5-MW pool-type Material Testing Reactor (MTR). The scenario is traced in the absence of active cooling systems and operators. The code nodalization is successfully benchmarked against experimental data of the reactor's operating parameters. The passive heat removal system includes downward water cooling after pump breakdown by the force of gravity (where the coolant streams down to the unfilled portion of the holdup tank), safety flapper opening, flow reversal from a downward to an upward cooling direction, and then the upward free convection heat removal throughout the flapper safety valve, lower plenum, and fuel assemblies. Both short-term and long-term natural core cooling conditions are simulated and investigated using the RELAP5 code. Short-term analyses focus on the safety flapper valve operation and flow reversal mode. Long-term analyses include simulation of both complete SBO and long-term operation of the free convection mode. Results are promising for pool-type MTRs because this allows operators to investigate RELAP code abilities for MTR thermal-hydraulic simulations without any oscillation; moreover, the Tehran Research Reactor is conservatively safe against the complete SBO and long-term free convection operation.

Approximately 40,000 elevators are installed every year in Korea, and they are used as a convenient means of transportation in daily life. However, the continuous increase in elevators has a social problem of increased safety accidents behind the functional aspect of convenience. There is an emerging need to induce preemptive and active elevator safety management by elevator management entities by strengthening the management of poorly managed elevators. Therefore, this study examines domestic research cases related to the evaluation items of the elevator safety quality rating system conducted in previous studies, and develops a statistical model that can examine the effect of elevator maintenance quality as a result of the safety management of the elevator management entity. We review two types: odds ratio analysis and logistic regression analysis models.

This paper describes an integrated chassis control for a maneuverability, a lateral stability and a rollover prevention of a vehicle by the using of the ESC and AFS. The integrated chassis control system consists of a supervisor, control algorithms and a coordinator. From the measured and estimation signals, the supervisor determines the vehicle driving situation about the lateral stability and rollover prevention. The control algorithms determine a desired yaw moment for lateral stability and a desired longitudinal force for the rollover prevention. In order to apply the control inputs, the coordinator determines a brake and active front steering inputs optimally based on the current status of the subject vehicle. To improve the reliability and to reduce the operating load of the proposed control algorithms, a multi-core ECU platform is used in this system. For the evaluation of this system, a closed loop simulations with driver-vehicle-controller system were conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed control strategy.
