  • Recently organic electroluminescent devices have been intensively investigated for using in full-color flat-panel display. Since the quantum efficiency of electrophosphorescent device decrease rapidly as the luminance increase, it is desirable to operate the electrophosphorescent display with active matrix rather than passive matrix. Here we report the study of driving electrophosphorescent diode with all organic thin film transistor(OTFT). The structure of electrophosphorescent diode is ITO/TPD/BCP:Ir(ppy)$_3$/BCP/Alq$_3$/Li:Al/Al. In OTFT, Polymer is used as an insulator and pentacene as an active layer. Detailed performance of the integrated device will be discussed.

  • Certain types of anti-inflammatory components and whitening components were in practical use as the active ingredients of quasi drugs expected to display their pharmacological actions. However, only twenty years at most have past since the introduction of cosmetics that not only physically change the condition of the surface of the skin, but also promote skin homeostasis from by acting on the physiological mechanisms of the skin. Since then, much effort hasa been made to find new active ingredients suitable for full-scale development, and the term "cosmeceutical" has often been coined to describe cosmetics containing pharmacologically active components. In this report, the prospects of cosmeceuticals will be discussed on the basis of a review of the history of the development of current skin-care products.

  • We report dimension-reduced and photon-induced quantum rings naturally formed in a vertical-cavity-like active microdisk plane due to Rayleigh's band of whispering gallery modes. The √T- dependent redshift, microampere-range threshold currents, λ/2 lightwave ordering, and chaotic properties are also discussed.

  • Veratrum patulum has toxicological relevance because of the potential for misidentification of this plant as mountain garlic. Veratrum patulum has an ester-alkaloid that provokes cardiac arrhythmias by excessive vagal stimulation and depression of the sinoatrial and atrioventricular nodes of the heart and hypotension, cardiomegaly. We report on a retrospective case of successful outcome in patients with veratrum patulum poisoning through active treatment from the early phase after ingestion. We report on a case involving a patient who experienced dizziness, dyspnea, hypotension, and elevation of cardiac enzyme, cardiomegaly. These cases were kept under observation and generally recovered with supportive care. We report on cases of veratrum patulum poisoning with review of literature.

  • Abdominal wall hematoma (AWH) after blunt trauma is common, and most cases can be treated conservatively. More invasive treatment is required in patients with traumatic AWH if active bleeding is identified or there is no response to medical treatment. Herein, we report a case of endovascular embolization for traumatic subcutaneous AWH. Almost endovascular treatment for AWH is done through the deep inferior epigastric artery. However, in this case, the superficial inferior epigastric artery was the bleeding focus and embolization target. After understanding the vascular system of the abdominal wall, an endovascular approach and embolization is a safe and effective treatment option for AWH.

  • Objectives The objective of this study is to report the effects of acupuncture on neonatal brachial plexus palsy (neonatal brachial plexopathy). Methods We treated the patient with acupuncture for 4 months. Acupuncture was performed on the infant with flaccid paresis of a lower extremity. The effects of neonatal brachial plexus injury were measured by the active movement scale and the electromyographic test. Results 1. In electromyographic test, conduction velocity in left median nerve was elevated. 2. Active movement scale score was increased from 6 to 27 during the 4 months of treatment. 3. Grasping power of the patient's left hand was 60% stronger than the first medical examination. Conclusions This study showed that acupuncture was effective in treating the symptoms of brachial plexopathy. The further studies might be also needed.

  • Self healing systems are considered as cognation-enabled sub form of fault tolerance system. But our experiments that we report in this paper show that self healing systems can be used for performance optimization, configuration management, access control management and bunch of other functions. The exponential complexity that results from interaction between autonomic systems and users (software and human users) has hindered the deployment and user of intelligent systems for a while now. We show that if that exceptional complexity is converted into self-growing knowledge (policies in our case), can make up for initial development cost of building an intelligent system. In this paper, we report the application of AHSEN (Autonomic Healing-based Self management Engine) to in OKKAM Project infrastructure backbone cluster that mimics the web service based architecture of u-Zone gateway infrastructure. The 'blind' load division on per-request bases is not optimal for distributed and performance hungry infrastructure such as OKKAM. The approach adopted assesses the active threads on the virtual machine and does resource estimates for active processes. The availability of a certain server is represented through worker modules at load server. Our simulation results on the OKKAM infrastructure show that the self healing significantly improves the performance and clearly demarcates the logical ambiguities in contemporary designs of self healing infrastructures proposed for large scale computing infrastructures.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medical treatment on a patient with relapsing transverse myelitis. Methods : The patient was treated using acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine and other treatments including moxibustion and therapeutic exercise for 8 weeks. We evaluated the patient's motor grade with medical research council(MRC) scale and evaluated active range of motion in the hip, knee, and anke joint. Results : Through treatment the patient's motor grade and active range of motion all improved. Other symptoms such as lower limb hypoesthesia and residual urine sensation also showed improvement. Conclusions : We concluded that Korean medicine treatment had respectable effect in improving symptoms on the patient with relapsing transverse myelitis.

  • About 20% of intestinal tuberculosis have active pulmonary tuberculosis. Intestinal tuberculosis can develop by swallowing sputum which have active pulmonary tuberculosis and by ingestion of contagious milk. We report a case of intestinal tuberculosis complicated with pulmonary tuberculosis in a 15-year old aldelescent who could not cough out sputum because of known cerebral palsy. He was admitted because of 3 day history of fever and bloody stool. Chest PA showed both upper lobe consolidation. AFB stain and AFB PCR was positive for tuberculosis. Colon study showed abscence of haustral marking and lead pipe appearance due to stenosis of ascending colon and mucosal edema. Abdominal CT scan showed mild wall thickening in ascending colon. Despite the anti-tuberculosis therapy with first line drugs, fever accompanying pleural effusion developed. Second line drug with Isoniazid and Rifampin improved clinical manifestation. After the report on sensitivity, we readjusted the regimen, and clinical manifestations improved gradually.

  • The purpose of this study was to apply a concept map to the first-year students of radiologic science and report its effects. The concept map is a visual representation of a major concept and related linking statements. Concept maps are useful tools for students to construct and organize content they have learned. The subjects of this study were first-year grade and at one university in Chungbuk, Korea. They were divided into active and passive participant groups in the class. And they were evaluated the educational effects such as satisfaction, fidelity, learning achievement, and interest before and after using the concept map. As a result, the passive participant group significantly increased the educational effect except for satisfaction, and the active participant group significantly increased the educational effect in all variables (p<0.05). These results showed that concept mapping, which induces first-year grade students to participate in class, could be helpful in radiologic education. It is expected to be used as basic data in various radiologic educational methodology studies in the future.
