  • Supportive periodontal therapy(SPT) is essential for the long-term success of periodontal treatment. A patient's compliance with SPT is one of the most important factors affecting periodontal status. There are few studies quantifying compliance with SPT. The aim of this study is to quantify patient's compliance using new method and evaluate tooth loss depending on patient's supportive periodontal treatment compliance index(SPTCI) with SPT. This study included subjects diagnosed with generalized moderate to severe chronic periodontitis, who had completed active periodontal treatment and had SPT over 5 years in Wonkwang university dental hospital. Chart review and radiography analysis were performed. To quantify compliance, SPTCI representing average of gap between recommended schedules and actual visits has been used and evaluated with tooth loss. Mean period of SPT was 8.9 years and mean SPTCI was about 120. In statical analysis, patients who have higher SPTCI with SPT are more likely to have higher rate of tooth loss. Under SPTCI of 120, there were no significant co-relation between SPTCI and tooth loss. Patients diagnosed with moderate chronic periodontitis have significant co-relation between SPTCI and tooth loss, whereas patients diagnosed with severe chronic periodontitis have no co-relation. SPTCI, new method of quantifying compliance in this study, affected to tooth loss. This study suggests that using SPTCI could be helpful for prediction of tooth loss and be used to determine the interval of visit.

  • Purpose - Multi-National Enterprises (MNEs) tend to face a high level of institutional pressures in regions with high institutional development level. When complying with institutional pressures, firms try to make decisions to maximize profit while minimizing the risks to them. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the institutional development level on institutional compliance timing by MNEs and the relationship between compliance speed and corporate performance. Design/methodology - The research focuses on three main variables, which are the institutional development level (as a determination of the institutional pressure level), the firm's compliance speed (as a determination of the compliance timing), and the firm's financial performance (as a determination of the corporate performance). We collected 19,869 firm-level data from CSMAR (the China Stock Market and Accounting Research), 6,922 CSR data from RKS (the Rankins CSR Ratings), and province and city-level data from the NERIM (National Economic Research Institute Index of Marketization) and NBSC (National Bureau of Statistics of China). The firms in China were chosen for analysis, and the analysis period was from 2008 to 2017. Random Effects GLS Regression was used to test the relationships among the variables. Findings - This study examined the effect of the institutional development level on the firm's compliance speed, together with the effect of compliance speed on the firm's financial performance of the MNEs in China. We found that the institutional development level positively influenced firms' financial performances, which means the firms' financial performances are better in the region with a high institutional development level. The compliance speed of institutional practice by firms was faster in the higher level of institutional development. However, the firm's delayed compliance led to better financial performance. Originality/value - Studies in the resource dependence view of Institutional Theory often fall short in understanding the theory by overlooking the firm's active decision-making. Thus, the findings do not present a full scope of corporate performance in this regard. This study not only found a way to test the role of a firm's independent decision-making (i.e., compliance timing) when facing the institutional pressure but also prove the significant role of the compliance timing on corporate performance. Also, we were able to test the effect of institutional development level, controlling location-specific variables because we used CSR performance data for MNEs operating in China. Lastly, by doing the above, the findings of this study suggest practical implications to the industry practitioners in MNEs.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of the program to promote self management for patients with chronic hepatitis B. Methods: The research was a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group pre-post test. The participants were 61 patients, 29 in the experimental group and 32 in the control group. A pretest and 2 posttests were conducted to measure main variables. For the experimental group, the self-management program, consisting of counseling- centered activities in small groups, was given for 6 weeks. Data were analyzed using $X^2$, t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA with PASW statistics program. Results: There were statistically significant increases in knowledge, self-efficacy, active ways of coping, and self-management compliance but not in passive ways of coping in the experimental group compared to the control group over two different times. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the self-management program is effective in increasing knowledge, self-efficacy, active ways of coping, and self-management compliance among patients with chronic hepatitis B. Therefore, it can be usefully utilized in the field of nursing for patients with chronic disease as a nursing intervention for people with chronic hepatitis B.

  • Anchorage plays an important role in orthodontic treatment especially in the maxillary arch. In spite of many efforts for anchorage control. it was difficult for clinicians to predict the result of treatment because most of the treatment necessitated an absolute compliance of patients, But recently, skeletal anchorage has been used widely because it does not necessitate patient compliance but produces absolute anchorage. In addition titanium miniscrews have several advantages such as ease of insertion and removal. possible immediate leading and use in limited implantation spaces. In this case, a skeletal Class I bialveolar protrusion Patient was treated with standard edgewise mechanics using indirect active P.S.A. (palatal skeletal anchorage). The miniscrews in the paramedian area of the hard palate provided anchorage for retraction of the upper anterior teeth and remained firm and stable throughout treatment This indicates that the PSA can be used to reinforce anchorage for orthodontic treatment in the maxillary arch Consequently, this new approach can help effective tooth movement without patient compliance, when used with various transpalatal arch systems.

  • Objectives : Routine vaccination against influenza is recommended for all people aged 65 years or more. Without active encouragement to receive the vaccine, the rate of compliance is generally low. A study was undertaken to assess and compare the effectiveness of two reminder systems in improving the influenza vaccination rate. Methods : A total of 2,017 patients aged 65 or over in a tertiary care hospital family practice center were randomly assigned to a control, a telephone reminder, or a postcard reminder group before the influenza season in 1998. The outcome measure, receipt of vaccination, was determined by telephone interview. Demographic and clinical characteristics were checked through the medical chart review. Results : Among the 1,312 patients who actually received reminders and interviewed, the vaccination rate was 46.7% in the control group, 56.3% in the postcard reminder group, and 63.3% in the telephone reminder group. Vaccination compliance was significantly higher in people reminded by telephone (Odds ratio [OR], 2.00; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.52-2.64) and postcard (OR, 1.55; 95% CI, 1.18-2.02) compared to that in the control group. Of the characteristics investigated, number of high risk co-morbidity was positively associated with vaccination compliance while current smoking was negatively associated. Conclusions : This result suggests that telephone and postcard reminders can significantly improve compliance with influenza vaccination in this group of Korean elderly. However, additional strategies need to be developed to encourage vaccination among noncompliant.

  • As protecting organizations' information assets affects their substantiality, they are increasing their investments in policies, regulations, and technologies for systematic information asset management and protection. This study confirms the impact on information security(IS) compliance from the perspective of employees who apply IS policies to actual work. In particular, this study identifies mechanisms linked to IS policy awareness, sanction, justice, and IS compliance from the perspective of expanding deterrence theory. We applied 316 samples obtained from workers of organizations that applied IS policies and regulations to work and verified the relationship between mechanisms by using AMOS and SPSS packages. As a result of the verification, IS policy awareness had a positive effect on organization justice and compliance intention through the severity and clarity of sanctions. Individual justice sensitivity had a moderating effect on the cause and outcome of justice. The sanction-related mechanism presented in this study provides strategic implications for organizations that require active IS activities by insiders.

  • To reduce the possibility of longitudinal dynamic instability, called "POGO", in the liquid rocket system due to the feedback effect of a main structure and a fuel-feeding system, several different types of PSD(POGO Suppression Device) systems have been studied. In the present study, several different types of PSD were reviewed. Basically, all PSD systems can be categorized into two groups; a passive PSD or an active PSD. We can classify the passive PSD's into more detailed groups according to their compliance methods; localized compliance methods or distributed compliance methods. As a result of our intensive review on various PSD's, the gas-filled accumulator with a level control system is considered to be the most suitable one to suppress the POGO instability without mal-effects to the performance of a fuel-feeding system.ng system.

  • A functional suspension model is proposed as a kinematic describing function of the suspension, that represents the relative wheel displacement in polynomial form in terms of the vertical displacement of the wheel center and steering rack displacement. The relative velocity and acceleration of the wheel is represented in terms of first and second derivatives of the kinematic describing function. The system equations of motion for the full vehicle dynamic model are systematically derived by using velocity transformation method of multi-body dynamics. The comparison of test and simulation results demonstrates the validity of the proposed functional suspension modeling method. The model is computationally very efficient to achieve real-time simulation on TMS 320C6711 150 MHz DSP board of HILS (hardware-in-the-loop simulation) system for ECU (electronic control unit) evaluation of semi-active suspension.
