  • In hierarchical Mobile IPv4 Networks the highest FA(Foreign Agent) may experience serious congestion and delay since the highest FA plays a role of CoA(Care of Address) for all mobile nodes in the domain, In this paper, we propose mechanism called 'HRFA(Hierarchical Root Foreign Agent)', which distributes the load imposed on the highest FA. In the proposed HRFA scheme, multiple HRFAs are selected to provide the similar service that is provided by the highest FA. According to which entity determines HRFAs, HRFA scheme is categorized into 'Active' and 'Passive' approaches. HRFA scheme is further categorized into 'All MN(Mobile Node)s' and 'New MNs' approaches, depending on which mobile nodes are assigned to a newly elected HRFA. Through a course of simulations, we investigate the performance of 4 possible combinations of HRFA schemes. We also compare the performance of the proposed HRFA schemes with the LMSP(Local Multicast Service Provider) scheme, which is a scheme to distribute the load of FA for multicast service in hierarchical wireless network domain. The simulation results show that the Passive & New MN approach performs best with respect to both the overhead and the load balancing.

  • In this study, seismic anisotropic tomography algorithm was developed for imaging the seismic velocity anisotropy of the subsurface. This algorithm includes several inversion schemes in order to make the inversion process stable and robust. First of all, the set of the inversion parameters is limited to one slowness, two ratios of slowness and one direction of the anisotropy symmetric axis. The ranges of the inversion parameters are localized by the pseudobeta transform to obtain the reasonable inversion results and the inversion constraints are controlled efficiently by ACB(Active Constraint Balancing) method. Especially, the inversion using the Fresnel volume is applied to the anisotropic tomography and it can make the anisotropic tomography more stable than ray tomography as it widens the propagation angle coverage. The algorithm of anisotropic tomography is verified through the numerical experiments. And, it is applied to the real field data measured at limestone region and the results are discussed with the drill log and geological survey data. The anisotropic tomography algorithm will be able to provide the useful tool to evaluate and understand the geological structure of the subsurface more reasonably with the anisotropic characteristics.

  • We have extended the three-dimensional (3-D) resistivity imaging algorithm to cover the 3-D resistivity tomography problem, where resistivity data are acquired using electrodes installed in several boreholes as well as at the earth surface. The imaging algorithm consists of the 3-D finite element forward modeling and least-squares inversion scheme, where the ACB (Active Constraint Balancing) is adopted to enhance the resolving power of the inversion. Sensitivity analysis with numerical verifications shows that 3-D resistivity tomography is a very appealing method and can be used to get 3-D attitude of subsurface structures with very high-resolution. Moreover, we could accurately handle the topography effect, which could cause artifacts in the resistivity tomography. In the application of 3-D resistivity tomography to the real field data set acquired at the quarry mine, we could derive a very reasonable and accurate image of the subsurface.

  • In the present work, the metabolic network of primary metabolism of the slow-growing myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum was reconstructed from the annotated genome sequence of the type strain So ce56. During growth on glucose as the carbon source and asparagine as the nitrogen source, So ce56 showed a very low growth rate of $0.23\;d^{-1}$, equivalent to a doubling time of 3 days. Based on a complete stoichiometric and isotopomer model of the central metabolism, $^{13}C$ metabolic flux analysis was carried out for growth with glucose as carbon and asparagine as nitrogen sources. Normalized to the uptake flux for glucose (100%), cells recruited glycolysis (51%) and the pentose phosphate pathway (48%) as major catabolic pathways. The Entner-Doudoroff pathway and glyoxylate shunt were not active. A high flux through the TCA cycle (118%) enabled a strong formation of ATP, but cells revealed a rather low yield for biomass. Inspection of fluxes linked to energy metabolism revealed that S. cellulosum utilized only 10% of the ATP formed for growth, whereas 90% is required for maintenance. This explains the apparent discrepancy between the relatively low biomass yield and the high flux through the energy-delivering TCA cycle. The total flux of NADPH supply (216%) was higher than the demand for anabolism (156%), indicating additional reactions for balancing of NADPH. The cells further exhibited a highly active metabolic cycle, interconverting $C_3$ and $C_4$ metabolites of glycolysis and the TCA cycle. The present work provides the first insight into fluxes of the primary metabolism of myxobacteria, especially for future investigation on the supply of cofactors, building blocks, and energy in myxobacteria, producing natural compounds of biotechnological interest.

  • In this study, we propose a control algorithm to reduce the unbalanced characteristics of a three-phase system power caused by the unbalanced load of the AC electric railway. Then, we verify its performance through the design of a power compensator and experiments applying it. Like electric railway systems, a Scott transformer is applied, and the load and single-phase back-to-back converters are connected to the M-phase and T-phase outputs. The back-to-back converter monitors the difference in active power between the unbalanced loads in real-time and compensates for the power by using bidirectional characteristics. The active power is performed through PI control in the synchronous coordinate system, and DC link overall voltage and voltage balancing control are controlled jointly by M-phase and T-phase converters to improve the responsiveness of the system. To verify the performance of the proposed power compensation device, an experiment was performed under the condition that M-phase 5 kW and T-phase 1 kW unbalanced load. As a result of the experiment, the unbalance rate of the three-phase current after the operation of the power compensator decreases by 58.66% from 65.04% to 6.38%, and the excellent performance of the power compensator proposed in this study is verified.

  • This paper discusses the model validation and vibration suppression of an AMB flexible rotor via additional LQG controller. The main difficulty in the vibration suppression of the flexible rotor using AMB is to realize a controller that can minimize resonance without injuring the stabilized rigid modes. In order to solve this problem, simple scheme for system modeling and controller design are developed. Firstly, the AMB flexible rotor is stabilized with a PID controller, which leads to a new stable rotor-bearing system. Then, authors propose the model validation procedure using measured open-loop frequency responses to obtain an accurate model of the AMB flexible rotor system. After that, LQG controller with modal weighting is designed to suppress resonances of the stable rotor-bearing system. Due to the poor controllability and observability of flexible modes compared to rigid ones, balancing of two Gramians is prerequisite for the fair LQG controller design. Simulation with step disturbance and experimental results of unbalance response up to 10,000 rpm verified the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • This paper describes the characteristics of a hybrid supercapacitor module for power quality stabilization. Hybrid supercapacitor is an promising energy storage device that positioned between conventional EDLC and Li-ion battery. A cylindrical 7500F hybrid supercapacitor ($60{\times}138mm$) was assembled by using the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ electrode as an anode and activated carbon as a cathode. Considering the ESR and efficiency has been designed to module with 41.6F 480V design results in 180 series combination. In order to determine the characteristics of the hybrid supercapacitor module for power system, hybrid supercapacitor cells were connected in series with active balancing circuit. As a result of measuring the 50kw UPS, it was discharged at the current of 104A~143A during the discharge in the voltage range of 350V~480V, and the compensation time at discharge was measured to be about 30s. These results can be used to stabilization of power quality by applying hybrid supercapacitor module.

  • Recently, column-oriented storage has become a progressive model for high-speed database systems because of its superior I/O performance. In this paper, we analysis traditional raw-oriented storage model and then propose a new column-aware storage management model using flash memory drive and assist drive to improve the effective performance of the high-speed column-oriented database system. Our storage management scheme called column-aware polarization improves the performance of update operation by dividing and compressing table columns into active-columns or inactive-columns, and balancing congested update operations using a assist drive in high workload periods. The results obtained from experimental tests show that our scheme improves the update throughput of column-oriented storage by 19 percent, and the response time by up to 49 percent.

  • The conventional markets in small towns have showed a different trend, compared with those of urban district. As the conventional markets, which are located in urban districts, are being depressed, those in small towns are being activated by each local government. The activation of conventional market is being recognized as an important means for developing communities, and the project for fostering conventional market is being competitively carried out by each local government. The active center of conventional market is constituted centering on the central area of the market. However, in case of the small towns' conventional markets, it is known that the market site, which is secured at market day, heavily influences on the central area. Thus, in order that the small towns' conventional markets may be activated, securing territories of conventional markets and market site should be considered. Altogether, in order to activate the conventional markets, some conclusions were derived as follows: Expanding market site through improving the usability of space by territories, Controlling peddlers by territories and balancing business items, Amplifying the convenient facilities for users, Securing and improving the central area, Standardizing the facilities that were installed by stores and peddlers.
