Background: Current management strategies attempt to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at an early stage. Transcription profiling is applied in the search for biomarkers for detecting early-stage disease. Even though gene profiling has been reported using several animal models of RA, most studies were performed after the development of active arthritis, and conducted only on the peripheral blood and joint. Therefore, we investigated gene expression during the initial phase of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) before the arthritic features developed in the thymus in addition to the peripheral blood and synovium. Methods: For gene expression analysis using cDNA microarray technology, samples of thymus, blood, and synovium were collected from CIA, rats immunized only with type II collagen (Cll), rats immunized only with adjuvant, and unimmunized rats on days 4 and 9 after the first immunization. Arrays were scanned with an Illumina bead array. Results: Of the 21,910 genes in the array, 1,243 genes were differentially expressed at least 2-fold change in various organs of CIA compared to controls. Among the 1,243 genes, 8 encode T-cell receptors (TCRs), including CD3${\zeta}$, CD3${\delta}$, CD3${\varepsilon}$, CD8${\alpha}$, and CD8${\beta}$ genes, which were down-regulated in CIA. The synovium was the organ in which the genes were differentially expressed between CIA and control group, and no difference were found in the thymus and blood. Further, we determined that the differential expression was affected by adjuvant more than Cll. The differential expression of genes as revealed by real-time RT-PCR, was in agreement with the microarray data. Conclusion: This study provides evidence that the genes encoding TCRs including CD3${\zeta}$, CD3${\delta}$, CD3${\varepsilon}$, CD8${\alpha}$, and CD8${\beta}$ genes were down-regulated during the initial phase of CIA in the synovium of CIA. In addition, adjuvant played a greater role in the down-regulation of the CD3 complex compared to CII. Therefore, the down-regulation of TCR gene expression occurred dominantly by adjuvant could be involved in the pathogenesis of the early stage at CIA.

Recently, there has been substantial interest in flexible and wearable devices whose properties and performances are close to conventional devices on hard substrates. Despite the advancement on flexible devices with organic semiconductors or carbon nanotube films, their performances are limited by the carrier scattering at the molecular to molecular or nanotube-to-nanotube junctions. Here in this study, we demonstrate on the vertical semiconductor crystal array embedded in flexible polymer matrix. Such structures can relieve the strain effectively, thereby accommodating large flexural deformation. To achieve such structure, we first established a low-temperature solution-phase synthesis of single crystalline 3D architectures consisting of epitaxially grown ZnO constituent crystals by position and growth direction controlled growth strategy. The ZnO vertical crystal array was integrated into a piece of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate, which was then mechanically detached from the hard substrate to achieve the freestanding ZnO-polymer composite. In addition, the characteristics of transferred ZnO were confirmed by additional structural and photoluminescent measurements. The ZnO vertical crystal array embedded in PDMS was further employed as pressure sensor that exhibited an active response to the external pressure, by piezoelectric effect of ZnO crystal.
This paper describes real time implementation of subband sound localization system on a floating-point DSP TI TMS320C31. The system determines two dimensional location of an active speaker in a closed room environment with real noise presents. The system consists of an two microphone array connected to TI DSP hosted by PC. The implemented sound localization algorithm is Subband CPSP which is an improved version of traditional CPSP (Cross-Power Spectrum Phase) method. The algorithm first split the input speech signal into arbitrary number of subband using subband filter banks and calculate the CPSP in each subband. It then averages out the CPSP results on each subband and compute a source location estimate. The proposed algorithm has an advantage over CPSP such that it minimize the overall estimation error in source location by limiting the specific band dominant noise to that subband. As a result, it makes possible to set up a robust real time sound localization system. For real time simulation, the input speech is captured using two microphone and digitized by the DSP at sampling rate 8192 hz, 16 bit/sample. The source location is then estimated at once per second to satisfy real-time computational constraints. The performance of the proposed system is confirmed by several real time simulation of the speech at a distance of 1m, 2m, 3m with various speech source locations and it shows over 5% accuracy improvement for the source location estimation.
We present preliminary results from OH ground state phase referenced observations carried out with the Multi Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (MERLIN) and e-MERLIN towards the massive star forming region W49A. There are three active SFRs within this complex: W49 North (W49 N), W49 South (W49 S) and W49 South West (W49 SW). The first epoch of observations was obtained in 2005 with MERLIN while the second epoch was obtained in 2013 with the e-MERLIN upgraded system. In this paper, we present 1665 and 1720 MHz maser emission towards W49 S and W49 SW. Overall, both epochs show good agreement with the previous observations of Argon et al. (2000) carried out with the Very Large Array (VLA). The better sensitivity and wider velocity coverage of the MERLIN/e-MERLIN observations allowed us to discover a new 1720 MHz OH maser site in W49 S.
Nano flexible vesicles encapsulating an adenosine, an active ingredient for anti-wrinkle, were prepared for the transdermal delivery. The nano flexible vesicle is usually composed of phospholipid, ethanol, and lysolecithin, which is a type of liquid crystalline one made by dispersing the liquid crystalline phase formed through a hydration process into a water phase. In this study, the Taguchi method, one of the experimental design methods, was applied to investigate the factors affecting the vesicle droplet size. Signal to noise (S/N) ratios for the smaller the better characteristics of vesicle droplet size were calculated using the Taguchi orthogonal array. The composition of ethanol and lysolecithin in the vesicle constituents and the amount of aqueous solution added in the hydration process were main factors that had a great effect on the vesicle droplet size and ANOVA test showed that these factors were significant at 95% confidence level.

Modern radar system requires high spectral purity and low phase noise characteristics for very low RCS target detection and high resolution SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) image. This paper presents a new X-band high stable frequency synthesizer for high performance radar system, which combines DAS (Direct Analog Synthesizer) and DDS (Direct Digital Synthesizer) techniques, in order to cope with very low phase noise and high frequency agility requirements. This synthesizer offers more than 10% operating bandwidth in X-band frequency and fast agile time lower than 1 usec. Also, the phase noise at 10kHz offset is lower than -136dBc/Hz, which shows an improvement of more than 10dB compared to the current state of art frequency synthesizer. This architecture can be applied to L-band and C-band application as well. This frequency synthesizer is able to used in modern AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar system and high resolution SAR application.

The properties of tunable dielectric materials on RF frequency band are important high tunability and low loss for RF variable devices, variable capacitor, phased array antenna and other components application. Various composite of BST(barium strontium titanate) ratio combined with other non-electrical active oxide ceramics have been formulated for such uses. We present the tunable properties and Curie temperature on BST thick films. The grain growth of the weight ratio of $BaTiO_3$ increased. This can be explained by the substitute $Sr^{2+}$ ion for $Ba^{2+}$ ion in the $BaTiO_3$ system. The Curie temperature was shifted to lower temperature with increasing $SrTiO_3$in the $BaTiO_3-SrTiO_3$ system, because of decreasing the lattice constant. Also, the dielectric constant, tunability and K-factor of $(Ba_xSr_{1-x})TiO_3$ at over the Curie temperature decreased, at over the $60^{\circ}C$ fixation, maximum dielectric constant at Curie temperature and hence sharper phase transformation occurred at Curie temperature. The result were interpreted as a process of internal stress relaxation resulting form the increase of $90^{\circ}$ domains induced the BST. As a result, It is concluded that over the Curie temperature, frequency response and DC field effect for the tunable properties of BST thick film are suppressed by the transition broadening. For the application of tunable devices, that the curie temperature was investigated to be increased.
High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrophoresis (CE) were used to identify five active components in the modified herbal decoction Bo-Yang-Hwan-O-Tang (mBHT), i.e., amygdalin, decursin, paeoniflorin, salvianolic acid B, and calycosin-7-O-${\beta}$-D-glycoside. These components were identified by comparing their retention times and mass spectra with those of reference compounds. The conditions of both analytical methods were optimized and validated. Sufficient separation of target analytes was achieved using a buffer consisting of 40 mM sodium borate and 60 mM sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) containing 10% methanol (pH 9.5) at 250 nm for CE analysis and gradient elution with a water-methanol mobile phase and ultraviolet (UV) photodiode array detector (DAD) at 250 nm for HPLC analysis. The mBHT components were determined within 65 min by HPLC and 16 min by CE. All calibration curves showed high linearity (R > 0.999) within the ranges tested. Intra-day and inter-day precision were less than 1.6% and 1.8% for HPLC and 2.5% and 4.8% for CE, respectively. The accuracy of the methods ranged from 98.8% to 102.3% for HPLC and from 95.9% to 108.2% for CE.
3C 84 (NGC 1275) is one of the most famous radio galaxies and a lot of VLBI observations have been conducted to date because of its brightness and proximity (z = 0.0176; 1 mas = 0.36 pc). The source is entering a significantly active phase with long-term increase in radio flux at cm wavelengths since 2005, and the increased activity at very-high-energy (VHE) gamma rays. In order to study properties of sub-pc-scale structure and the circumnuclear environment in 3C 84, we have conducted multi-epoch VLBI observations with the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) at 86 and 129 GHz, and monthly monitoring by the KVN and VERA Array (KaVA) at 43 GHz from 2015 August. Following the report in the previous KAS meeting (cf. 2016 KAS Autumn Annual Meeting, [구 GC-10]), we present further results mainly on the basis of twelve-epoch observations with KaVA at 43 GHz. Through the monthly monitoring with KaVA, we found that peak intensity of the pc-scale southern lobe (C3) was increased from $2.60\;Jy\;beam^{-1}$ in 2015 October to $9.80\;Jy\;beam^{-1}$ in 2016 June, corresponding to a flux increase of 3.7 times in eight months. We also detected change in direction of motion of C3 from transversal to outward with respect to C1, concurrently with the beginning of its flux increase in 2015 October. We consider that these phenomena are due to interaction of C3 with the ambient medium, and are related to the gamma-ray flare which has been detected with VHE gamma-ray telescopes such as MAGIC and VERITAS.

The Yagi antenna, which is most widely used for television receiving, has simple form and good directiyity as well as high gain, but it must be made with linear elements of half wave length. Therefore, the dimension of multi-element Yagi antenna becomes bulky and so a(ten it is inconvenient to install and handle, because of its big size. Moreover the frequency band width of the Yagi antenna is usually not broad enough to cover the total frequency range of VHF TV channels in our country. Recently, the aemand for an antenna which is not only small enough to install it easily anywhere but also assures good quality of pictures is generally increasing. In this study 2 elements o( folded dipole, which is small compared to its electrical ways length, are fixed parallel to each other with a narrow distance and the emfs induced in them are made to get together with some phase difference. This new phased array antenna has shown a relatively good unidirectivity through over the high channel VHF television frequency hand as well as the good PIB ratio which is comparable to that of multielements Yagi antenna. As a result this new antenna will be used as a VHF high channel TV receiving antenna and it may become better antighost antenna when used inside the room than other room antennas.
